10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everthing was excellent..the experience..hospitality.. Cleanliness..staff...breakfast...dinner...Igloo...ambience...facilities..sauna..beds...furniture..all..everything was 5*...highly highly recommended
Cons: We just stayed for 1 day...atleast we should have stayed 2....3 days to enjoy it fully
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The arctic resort stay is a unique experience. we had the great luxus to have a Kelo with igloo just for two of us. The wooden block houses with unique igloo is incredibly beautiful and warm. there is also a small kitchen, a bath and an own sauna. the surrounding is winter wonder land. everything is very expensive but we wanted to have this experience at least once. We had booked additionally the husky safari, what was great and nice and had the snow mobile riding with ice fishing and visited the Sami Museum. 4 days in this resort were definately great and to be remembered. the igloos are very warm and tidy.
Cons: there is no much minus. of course it is quiet expensive, but this is known. The food could have been better for the price. It was every day the same breakfst and the dinner was often a bit cold, but all in all good and enough.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast and dinner were tasty but limited, especially for those with food allergy but the staff in the evening tried their best to accommodate us. The inside of the log cabin was very cozy, a bit too warm that we had to ask them to turn down the heating. The sauna was petite but nice touch to have inside the cabin. I Like that they let you know that the northern lights outside are happening but the 2mins they say it goes off for is not true, it goes until you silence it which we ended up unplugging because it could go off at any time of night.
Cons: EVERYTHING, and I mean everything was extra charge. I'm surprised the air in the room wasn't extra charge. To light the fire in the room is ridiculously expensive, 35Euro to light it for the first time because they have to show you how to light a fire and use the vents.... i mean its not rocket science. All of the tours are super expensive compared to booking yourself with the tour guides themselves. There is a very inconveniently places window in the sauna that lets people from outside or the cabin next to you see you shower or have a sauna. had to cover it with a towel. The cabins are very close together.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I like the view that you get from the electric bed. The igloo was cosy despite it being -20C outside. The surroundings around this resort are beautiful. We stayed in the west village so cannot comment on the East. You have your very own freezer just outside the front door, good for keeping the alcohol super cool, don't try putting other things as they will be frozen solid by the morning.
Cons: The igloos are so closely packed together and there is a lot of light pollution around there so you have to take a walk if you want to take some nice pictures of the northern lights. As soon as you get out of bed you are visible from anyone around you so changing is basically like changing in public. It is way over priced and is a one time thing, you wouldn't stay more than 1/2nights. As you would expect from a room so small, there is very little space to move if you have 2 suitcases in there.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The view
Cons: Their was no storage for snow gear Or general traveling bags No towel racks No cups for coffee No spoons
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Food is bad
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The resort environment is gorgeous but the staff were average and didn't seem to be organized. The room was not warm enough but the glass igloo and the view was amazing.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The grounds where amazing The cabins where to die for
Cons: Adding additional people into your stay I confirmed prices of additional people and I assumed the price give was for the whole stay but it was per night So when adding in additional people get clarification as check in was very frustrating Half board If you are leaving early in the morning they pack you a breakfast Ensure they understand the dietary requirements as they didn't cater for the dietary requirements as advised at the time of booking or at check in Igloo Run out of hot water No storage No towel rack No hooks to hang jackets No place to store snow boots No fridge No cups to make a coffee Cabin No toaster No TV No microwave
Northern Lights Village Saariselkä - Saariselka - Bedroom
2
8.8 Excellent (866 reviews)
C$ 522+
Overview Reviews
The Aurora Cabins at the Northern Lights Village are a magical way to experience the wintry star-filled sky and the Northern Lights, while lying comfortably in a warm bed. The laser-heated glass-roof opens up into the northern sky, directly above your bed.All the activities at the Northern Lights Village begin in the yard outside and the restaurant Kota is only a stones throw away. The services at the centre of Saariselk, such as the store, the spa, and restaurants are only a 350 meter walk away while on the other side, the cabins are lined by uninhabited fells and forests.
6.7 Good
Pros: - Cozy atmosphere - Nice cabin beautiful nature - Availability of activities on site -
Cons: - Food was average - No drinks included in the half board dinner - Chargable Sauna entry - Would not give clear opinion on Northern lights - Some staff members and tour guides can be friendlier (some are very friendly) - Room service only upon request (website says every other day)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location,food is ok.
Cons: Hot water is only for 10 min.so if you have long hair and traveling not alone you have to be very quick.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The igloos are wonderful - clean and cosy. The breakfast and dinner buffet had a good selection of lovely food (each evening there would be fish, meat or a vegetarian option along with different vegetables, salads, soup, bread and a desert selection). We paid 13 euros for a soup lunch in the hotel and had a lunch included in one of our activities. The activities and activity staff were lovely - we did the 4 hour huskies, the snowmobile aurora hunting (which we booked for the night there was an aurora show which we very lucky), cross country skiing and we did some snow shoeing too! All activities ended up being one on one (just the two of us and the guide). We had such an amazing time and the place is really beautiful. It would have been a wonderful stay even if we didn’t see the lights. I wonder if we had a more peaceful experience and the resort felt quite quiet (CV fear?). All the staff were very warm and welcoming.
Cons: The tablet in our room a didn’t work - not the end of the world, we were given an aurora buzzer but it never went off. We were out when the Aurora did appear - so maybe the buzzer did work?! I really can’t think of anything else...!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place, so beautiful. We stayed in an cabin with a glass roof- spectacular even though we didn’t see the aurora through it! We did snow-shoeing and snow-mobiling at night to see the aurora and were successful with the snowmobile! An amazing experience never to be forgotten- magical! The activities are pricey but when you’re on full board you don’t spend much while you’re there anywhere so I thought it was worth it and gives a great experience of the surrounding area. It’s just outside the small town of saariselka...near enough to walk but far enough to feel like you’re away from it all. We were lucky because it was quiet when we were there due to the corona outbreak- we just checked out as things were closing down. The guides and staff were for the most part very very friendly and knowledgeable and helpful despite the difficult situation facing everybody.
Cons: The smell in the bathroom- must be a problem with sewerage, this must be a problem in other cabins as we heard someone else asking at reception about it too and saw a few reviews online that mentioned it. The food was a little hit and miss- buffet style so wasn’t always the hottest and some things were better than others but generally it was fine!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is without question the most relaxing, fairytale location I've ever visited. All the staff were welcoming and didn't have the word "no" in their vocabulary. The atmosphere was easy & relaxed. The excursions were well organised and very enjoyable. You wouldn't realise that these people do these trips to many groups multiple times per day - you're treated as the only people visiting. The food was simple but excellent, exactly what was needed after your day out. The aurora cabins are much warmer than expected, very clean and comfortable.
Cons: There's nothing to not like. If I was forced into being REALLY picky I'd complain that I can't go every week! Two flights away from London Heathrow but Finnair were perfect too so nothing negative to report.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view on the sky
Cons: There are about 50 aurora cabins, for this reason it seems like a commercial place but the high prices refer to an exclusive one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the location. The cabins are very comfortable. The windows above the bed are amazing for star gazing. The resort will give you a buzzer to notify you about Northern lights. We were lucky enough to catch them four days in a row. Being able to view them from our own cabin was amazing! The activities they have on offer are very good and the guides are great!
Cons: We thought it waa really good. So this is justnitpicking, but the saladbar at the buffet was a bit of the same every day. The soups were really good!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Beautiful location, cosy comfortable accommodation!
Cons: Nothing negative to say about it!

Cons: Hot water was limited, run out really fast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location...felt like we are in the wilderness! Glass ceiling for watching the aurora lights! Own private little sauna! Great restaurant! Super friendly staff!
Cons: Loved everything!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Whole aea and aurora cabin is beautiful!
Cons: Price is quite expensive considering most of it is self service (like getting to room and buffet dinner etc.) but for a one off special treat, there's a balance I guess!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The log cabin was really perfect. It is a shame that you can't order food from the menu, if you don't like what they make there is no choice of getting something else.
Cons: It is a shame that you can't order food from the menu, if you don't like what they make there is no choice of getting something else.
7.0 Good
Pros: Heidi, the reception who checked us in and looked after us during our stay was excellent. She was welcoming, warm, helpful and friendly. She was particularly kind to me when I needed some urgent help. The resort was in a lovely location and we really loved the serenity. The igloo was warm and cosy and comfortable.
Cons: Some things could certainly be improved in the igloos. We ran out of hot water for showering, there were no hooks in the rooms for coats or towels. We found ourselves stuck in the room after a heavy snowfall and were worried because we couldn't contact anyone because there was no wifi or phone. Our preference would be to have some way of contacting the reception if needed. There were very limited gluten free options for breakfast. Sadly we did not see the Aurora. What would have been excellent would be a discount on another activity when you spend Euro 130 and only get a bus ride.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: it is very quiet and beautiful, and staffs are very friendly
Cons: The species of the food is not very various
5.0 Okay
Cons: The price is not good value, room service only cleaning the room until 2 nights stay, no coffee maker in the room, no free airport shuttle, no wifi in the room, etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really appreciated the friendly welcome and concern that we were happy. The large areas and dining room were a plus! The convenience of the airport bus was a plus as well. And the sauna in the room was a wonderful extra! The whole experience was well beyond what we expected. This is really a 5 star hotel!!!
Cons: I would like to have seen hooks in our aurora glass ceiling cabin on the wall for our heavy winter coats and suits. We ended up with them piled up on the floor. As a woman, It would be easier to not get your whole head of hair soaked, under that beautiful large shower head but to also have one that you can easily unattach and use manually. These are just honest suggestions, but we really were super happy with our stay with you. We would love to come back one day.

2.0 Mediocre
Cons: We received very basic information at our arrival. Very quick and cold answer. We did not feel welcome at all and we had to ask specific question to understand the sourranding. The room was very old, there was dog smell and they arrived at 4h30pm to clean the room. Breakfast was ok, the same standard that we found in Rovaniemi 3 stars hotel. The slides for kids are to rent. The spa area was cold.
6.0 Good
Pros: The breakfast an location were good.
Cons: Not a pleasant stay. We were told room would be ready in 15 minutes but when we arrived, it had not been done. The room was ordinary; you did not feel cozy and comfortable, especially the washroom. Front desk staff were not very friendly. Hotel parking was limited.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: It’s nice to have the dry cabinet in the bathroom.
Cons: The room is very dirty and not clean properly during our stay. After we requested for it it’s still faaaaaar from basic. Housekeeping staff aren’t friendly either. Disappointing!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Huge room with private sauna. Separate couch and dining table in a large living area. Two bathrooms. Nice late checkout time meant not having to rush in the morning. Decent breakfast.
Cons: TV was a bit temperamental with a signal not always available. Weird placement of facilities like the kettle: placed on a table where there were no plugs around to actually use it. Had to move the kettle and tea bags etc. into the bedroom where there was a plug.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: All staff members are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located about 200 meters from cross-country ski trails.
Cons: The saunas in the spa center need better stoves. Some renovation would be useful, too.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful! the location was great as it was a little village. The Pub across the street had day time karaoke and a live Finnish Rock band at night. There's also winter wonderland trails you can walk to see the Northern Lights. The breakfast was really good!

The front desk is staffed during limited hours. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Mountain top view is beautiful
Cons: Not enough parking spots and the light reflection from other units and the ski resort(the red light pole) impacts the sky view through the glass at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I proposed to my girlfriend while staying at Star Arctic and was in contact with Ida at reception prior to arrival. Ida went above and beyond to make our stay magical. Ida organised chocolates and roses I had ordered. We were also provided with a complementary upgrade on our sauna booking. This was a fantastic experience. While staying here we enjoyed the superb dinning experience with breath taking views and second to none service. I would recommend the glass roof cabins as they are quite the experience especially when they provide you with the ability to view the aurora from the comfort of your bed! Would love to have stayed for more than two days and will most certainly return.
7.9 Good
Cons: The property itself was amazing. The main complaint I have involves certain members of the front desk staff and servers for the restaurant. I wouldn’t classify them as rude but there was certainly a lack of hospitality on their part and an absentmindedness in select situations as well. Given its physical location up north on a hill with no other buildings surrounding it in the Finnish Lapland, it would be extremely easy to see new incoming patrons of the hotel arrive with all their luggage especially when the hotel offers a shuttle service from the airport and the main reception area is steps away from the entrance to the hotel. My girlfriend and I were not expecting to check into our room right away as we had arrived early in the morning but as we approached the reception area there were 3 employees just standing looking at us and each other (I suppose to see who would take the initiative to welcome us). Finally after the 2 ladies nudged the man to speak to us we mentioned that we knew it was early and didn’t expect the room to be ready but we were checking in to which the man started shaking his head saying that’s not possible. Again, that’s something that we knew but being so flat out inhospitable was unnecessary. To add insult to injury the same man said that we could leave our luggage suitcases by reception and when the room was ready the staff would bring them to the rooms. This never happened and we needed to walk down a steep slope covered in snow and ice with our bags to get to our rooms located outside and around the main reception building. The employees never mentioned that a shuttle could take us to the center of town for a fraction of the price of paying a cab which we only found out after the fact. Lastly, it took 25-30 minutes to pay for dinner after having asked the Asian gentleman who was our server for the bill.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is amazing, on a hill overlooking the area. Breakfast is okay for a hotel that size with everything you need but not huge. More coffee options instead of just filter coffee would have been nice. They had a few gluten free things as well. Cabins are nice but it was always a bit cold in there even with the highest temperature setting. Staff was very friendly.
Cons: It is crazy expensive and for that price I expect at least some services to be included. For example the sauna costs additionally 15 Euros per use (the one for two people, the other one for up to 10 people was 25.). We did the 2 hour husky experience which was announced to be a 45min husky ride. In the end it turned out, you go there, get a short introduction, ride the huskies for only about 20-25min (it was 4km). Then you have some time to pet them and take pictures, then you get a hot juice or chocolate and then you go back. Thats it. (They provide you with warm clothes though).

2.5 Mediocre
Pros: It could have been a great place only if it was managed by the wife of the owner.
Cons: The owner of the place have very bad attitude, and making it a racial issue, rather than keeping good communication style with guest. Horrible attitude + lots of threats. If that’s what you want to be exposed at your quiet holiday, definitely your place to go.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Henri and his wife are just the best. Great service, great food, beautiful location next to the river and all for a decent price. Definitely recommend!
Cons: It's located a bit outside of the town of Ivalo, but if you're willing it's an easy walk to get there and back.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is peaceful and very cold during the winter.. I’ve got -31°c there. But the cottage was well warmed and shower worked well too.
Cons: The snow wasn’t removed from the front of the cottages well when we arrived but they removed it after that. The beds were not comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked our cottage very much. Well equipped, powerful shower and heating, comfy beds, adorable view. The owners are lovely and very helpful, organized a husky safari for us and taxi, gave an advice where to find reindeer. They also let us use their kick sleds, which was great fun ! Definitely recommend this place, such serene location.

Pros: Best location.Super aunti landlord, she will call you to see the northern lights at the right moment; this worth a million dollar
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff were very friendly and activities were easy to organise.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were extremely nice and helpful. Our cabin was very clean. It was nice they had cross country skiis to rent.
Cons: Having to pay to rent towels and bed sheets. In the winter, it is significant hike to get to town.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Our wifi was extremely slow!!! and no attempt was done to fix it The owners were reluctant to give us a hand towel for the kitchen and bathroom (we had to use our bath towels) If we would of reserved a snowmobile-safari throw the owners they would off served us an early breakfast (at 0800) but because we reserved it independently they didn't serve us breakfast at all

6.0 Good
Pros: The Staff - they are all super kind and so very helpful. Oh, we loved the Reindeer burgers!!
Cons: The French groups (the Tour Operator was TUI) that come to this small hotel, need to know that they are NOT THE ONLY GUESTS IN THE HOTEL. They need to respect the silence of the common spaces and the hallways, leading to the bedrooms. The breakfast buffet needs little signs to tell the guest what the different things are.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was basic, clean and comfortable, which was what I was looking for. Our flight landed late at night and we needed a place to crash before heading on to our final destination the next day. The free breakfast buffet included was good with a decent variety of food. I can't comment on the other amenities like the sauna because we just didn't have the time or energy to try them. I liked the fact that they're eco friendly and use renewable energy.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: I was there for one night and it was off season so the hotel was quiet. Out my bedroom window was the riverbank lined with birch trees and the river with a dock and skid-doos available. Sauna newly renovated and good. The hotel was very comfortable and the staff helpful. Good beer in the bar where I ate dinner and a lot of menu options for dinner. Breakfast included in cost of stay. The airport is only 15 min drive and its new, small and easy to manage.
Cons: Bathroom needed some updating.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The charm and location, and especially the warmth of the fireplace in the lobby. The view of the river from our room was beautiful, and we had an absolutely incredible aurora experience!
Cons: The older room we were given provided little more than camping ... perhaps just a few extra bathroom amenities and towels would have been helpful and maybe a newer-looking bedspread would have brightened up the ‘70s vibe.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything one would need for an overnight stay.
Cons: The lobby area is very chaotic with children running a muck.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very good location in Ivalo. We did not get to enjoy one of the renovated rooms, but still had a comfortable room and bed with everything you need for an enjoyable stay!
Cons: Breakfast options could be improved especially the bread (just basic toast)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, great tour desk, great location & lots of beautiful fluffy fresh snow.
Cons: Hotel is looking a bit old & tired. Could definitely do with new carpet in the hallways & a bit of updating.

Pros: very bad every day same food not much verity to chose
Cons: not labile on the meet and the food

8.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is located right by the lake and middle of woods. The room was a little small but good enough if you only need a bed to sleep.
Cons: The owner could be a little happier... to make guests feel a bit welcomed when they stay at the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, nice view to the lake (in winter with snow and ice), wonderful place to see the northern lights (and stars) when the sky is clear. Cozy, warm, quiet and comfortable accommodation in wood cabins. Close to Ivalo by car (10-15 min), although there is a bus stop just next to the enter road place. Microwave and fridge in the cabin.
Cons: The kitchen is outside behind the cabins, there is no connecting passage between the cabins and the kitchen.
7.1 Good
Pros: If it would be clean, then it might be a really good place, may be we were just unlucky.
Cons: Some white dog"s hair all over the place
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Private shower and toilet in the cabin Can see the aurora outside the cabin Offers the feeling of remoteness and peace
Cons: Need to take a taxi to reach there in winter if you don’t drive but it’s worth to do it
4.2 Okay
Pros: Outside the city and easy to find
Cons: Entrance door has a clear window with no curtains which means there is always light coming into the room. Beds were really narrow and mattress thin - very uncomfortable to sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff kind and helpful! If you want to see Northen Lights without spending 100 of euros, then the location and hut is the perfect place as it is outside of the city and near a big lake. We managed to see Northen light and it was amazing and the staff was really helpful to guide us were to spot it from.
7.0 Good
Pros: Reasonably near the Ivalo airport. The room was quite essential but well equipped and clean.
Cons: The room was quite small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great spot to see northern light just 5 mins away from the cottage.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: An authentic Finnish bed and breakfast experience. We also enjoyed the two course evening home cooked and delicious meals. A very comfortable and serene location on the outskirts of Ivalo, complete with huskies. Definitely take a husky tour with lunch, it was a once in a lifetime experience. We had a hire car which was handy for additional exploring as the guest house is 5km from town. Highly recommended.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Breakfast was included in the room rate. Yet we were charged extra for it. When we queried it with booking.com we were told this is the guest houses's usual policy. To commit fraud.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was superb and the staff was very friendly. They accommodated us very well for 6 days. Great location if you enjoy nature. Stunning surroundings and in a way felt very surreal. The huskies are super cute and very loving. We miss all the dogs! We did the 4 hour husky safari twice and it was so much fun. It was truly an experience we will never forget. The guide very helpful and cooked a nice lunch in a hut. We went for a snowmobile track in Saariselka (recommended by the Guesthouse) and was just as much fun. Our guide Peter took us for a 2 hour tour and brought us to some beautiful vistas. The nearby town of Ivalo is very small and cute, but to be honest not much to do.
Cons: The bed and pillows were a bit uncomfortable to our liking. We would also have like to see a little bit more variation for the breakfast. Dinners were overal good, but would have like to see a bit more vegetables.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was courteous and friendly. The guesthouse was exceptionally nice. It is far enough out of Ivalo that we watched the Northern Lights from right outside the guesthouse. We did the dog sledding activity and had a wonderful time. There is a little shared kitchen where we made tea and cocoa each night. We even spent some time playing with the puppies.
Cons: The only thing I would say that could be improved on is the evening meal. For the price, it should have been more. When we were there it was reindeer soup and a small cake for dessert. We were offered seconds on the soup, but that should have been a starter that was followed by a main dish and then dessert. Also, coffee or tea should have been offered along with dessert. Had I have known, I would have driven into town for our evening meal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Guesthouse Husky was very enjoyable. We loved interacting with the dogs and had so much fun doing the dog sledding tour with Outi's son Konsta. There is some noise with the dogs but we weren't bothered by it - in fact watching the northern lights and hearing the huskies howl occasionally added to the atmosphere. The guesthouse is away from town so it is possible to see the northern lights standing outside the guesthouse (which we did). We enjoyed the home style cooking that Outi, Minna and Lea provided and there is a small basic kitchen where you can prepare your own food, snacks if you want. We also enjoyed just walking through the birch forests and the peace and serenity.
Cons: While we enjoyed the home style cooking, some additional vegetables would have been good. We loved the soups but I guess a big eater may not be satisfied.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The guesthouse was perfect for a relax getaway! Close to nature and peacefulness. Home cooked dinner were delicious. The room was clean and there is a small kitchen which you can use to cook your meal. Close proximity to huskies and we are free to play with them too. The huskies sledging activity was an adventure but might be a little dangerous for someone who have never done it before or small-size ladies. Overall, experience was great!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hosts and their staff are upright, kind, honest, helpful, welcoming and very trustworthy people. The rooms are very clean, warm as toast and their huskies are just amazing. The breakfast is something to look forward to, but the best is knowing that we are in good hands of the hosts and their people. The taxi service is extremely reliable with friendly and helpful drivers.
Cons: The rooms below get loud thumping and sounds of footsteps on the ceiling from the rooms above. Maybe it's because of the wooden floors. The thuds and bangs from above can get loud enough to become disruptive to rest and sleep. Had to stay awake till the sounds faded about midnight.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Magic! Beautiful guest house! Perfect place to relax, enjoy huskies and snow mobile places. And of course, perfect place to enjoy the beautiful Northern Lights!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The facility was elegant in a rustic way. The saun area was beautiful. The staff friendly and professional. Because the place has 140 husky dogs it is an ideal place for dog lovers. We were there at summer time but at winter they offer husky safaris. That would be an amazing experience.
Cons: The facility is about 4km from the main highway at the end of a gravel road. A bit remote.
