Overview

The Grand Plaza Beachfront Resort Hotel overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. It is located on the white sandy beaches of St. Pete Beach in Florida and was built in 1974. The Dalí Museum is a 16 minute drive from the resort, and it is also close to the Florida International Museum or the Sunken Gardens.

All of the rooms have a balcony with views of the coastline, Boca Ciega bay or the Gulf of Mexico. It is a 12 story hotel with 156 rooms and 12 suites. Each room has a king sized bed, free wi fi, free HBO and refrigerator.

On the 12th floor there is the Spinners Revolving Rooftop Lounge and Bistro that has a 360 degree panoramic view of the island. The menu has both continental and local cuisine made by award winning chefs. Another dining option is Bongos Beach Bar & Grille, with a laid back and casual atmosphere.

Pros (+) Room was spacious and very clean. Beach staff setting up chairs were very friendly and accommodating.
Cons (-) Hallways, carpet, etc., looked old and worn out. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the room because of this. Gentleman at front of hotel was rude. I had my car parked in what appeared to be a check in area and he came storming in at check in desk and said "Is that your car out front?" "You are blocking traffic coming in." Pros (+) We liked staying on the beach and having lounge chairs with umbrellas provided. Bongos was a great beach bar. Excellent service with all staff.

Pros (+) The hotel itself was nice. Not a lot of parking. The room was nicely decorated but the floor seemed like it hadn't been washed in months. We had a great view with a nice balcony but you couldn't sit out there unless you wanted to get blasted with the heat from the air conditioner. The air conditioner that didn't cool the room lower than 73 and would shut off at night which did not make for comfort...

Tile floors in the bedroom and bathroom which is great for cleanup but also makes it easy for bare feet to pick up all the sand and debris that you bring in from outside. Pros (+) The Beach and easy access. Bongos is the best and wait staff at Bongos is outstanding!!! Food is wonderful! Spinners has always been a favorite of my family's, all visiting relatives have always taken trips up there for the view. All employees were friendly from top to bottom, very professional, fun and energetic.
Cons (-) The breakfast buffet went up in price and should at least include orange juice which was 3.50 for a glass. I assumed a beverage such as juice would have been included. Pros (+) The Lounge and Spinners had excellent food and amazing views. Good location and it's right on the beach.

Pros (+) The people at the service desk were excellent. The top floor with the spectacular views were wonderful. The outside bar was romantically set up with live music on the beach was great. Every room had a balcony and all felt like you were at an exclusive resort. Very clean. We arrived at 11 AM and they welcomed us and told us which rooms were available. Alan

Pros (+) Very dated. Staff is very professional and friendly! (They are doing that right) Property just needs updating overall. Rooms not quiet. Can hear neighbors like they are in your room. Parking is decent, go in the underground garage and take elevator right up to your room.
