9.6 Excellent
Pros: Located next to the beach. Nice rooms and facilities. Train Station Shuttle Bus.
Cons: Breakfast and Dinner rather expensive. Bringing food from outside not allowed. Not too many alternatives nearby during offseason. Therefor some wending machines inside though.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: The weather
6.0 Good
Pros: Great location with views of Tatadohama beach. The baths are attractive; we booked the Pine spa during sunset which was awesome. Great Japanese style Breakfast including (pre-booked) vegetarian option. Very clean rooms.
Cons: Generally tatty and run down. No vegetarian option for dinner so did not book the half-board package, which meant we did not get the additional services including turning beds down. Somewhat inflexible shuttle bus, for late arrivals you have to take a taxi.
7.0 Good
Cons: I was a bit surprised not to have a staff make the bed (as I had in another hotel of the same status / prestige in Takayama): no big deal. However, as I made my bed, I could see some major (old blood?) stains on the mattresses: this was the only pitfall of the overall experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a real find. Though it is not a traditional ryokan the room I had felt like one and had a great view of the beach and headland. Food was amazing too.
Cons: In some places there musty odors. Also, not a fault of the property but it’s a shame the other guests did not take advantage of the yukatas and it wails had lent a more traditional Japanese feel.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel has a family oriented beach resort authenticity and I valued being able to experience a traditional room, futon and all Very warm staff and responsive service The beach and coastal setting is remarkable Dinner in the upperrestaurant was a pleasure
Cons: The old lower level recreation areas are shabby and need renovation soon. Shimoda township and other dinig options isn't a walk away - its a taxi ride
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view is perfect! And the service is good.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly couple running accomodation. Checked out at 5:30am and they were extremely accommodating with early checkout time.
Cons: Couldn't find the washing machine although it was late at night and we never asked.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: -K's room offered me direct offer for meal options and personal request confirmation which no other booking property has done and I was happy for their follow-up. Dinner was optional with additional 3000 yen and breakfast 1000 yen for myself and my son had free offer of rice and miso-soup which was sufficient for him. Food was great and worth it. -A request to prepare a non-smoking room: they did not have non-smoking room but actual room had no smell at all and was very clean We arrived at hotel a bit earlier than check-in time but hotel allowed us early check-in without additional charge -Small refrigerator and air-conditioner were work fine -Free wps wifi -Although my son was too tired to do Hanabi, they offered a Hanabi place at their parking-lot with a bucket -After check-out, they kept our baggage with valuables with safe place with free charge so we did not have to worry about it and enjoyed more beach time -Free shower (water) after check-out
Cons: -Not hotel's problem but there was a wild monkey around and at the same time we were lucky to see them, a mother monkey tried to threaten my son on the way back to hotel -Unless you are fond of Japanese meal (Fish or raw fish), you may prepare your own food or go buy food near-by convenience stores, or you could pre-submit food request with your own choices as the owner seems to be very flexible
8.0 Excellent
Pros: very friendly staff
Cons: the hill between the hotel and beach
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay after the corporate aloofness of our previous hotels in Japan K's room was a breath of fresh air. Very close to the beach and 7/11 The hotel provides hot coffee tea etc and a vending machine for beer sweets etc. The hotel was very clean The room itself was cosy with a nice view from the balcony. The bed wifi and shower worked well. Its located off the beaten track with a great beach just around the corner. The owner was very helpful we used the washer and had problems as the instructions were in Japanese. We found that he had transferred the washing to the dryer for us and later we found the washing delivered to our room!
Cons: steep steps from the car park
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good position, five minutes from the beach. The staff is very friendly
7.9 Good
Pros: Room, though basic, was clean and tidy and provision of toothbrush, shampoo & bodywash + towels was handy. Staff were friendly and very helpful - without being asked - the owner even drove to the town when I left a valuble item in the room at checkout. どうもありがとうございました
Cons: It would have been helpful if the local guidebook in the room had an English translation. Even in late May, all the local restaurants were closed. The local authorities need to invest more in waste disposal facilities.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. 9.2 Excellent
Pros: This was a great alternative to a more traditional Japanese ryokan, and perfect for a family - more of a standard hotel style facility, but with good sized Japanese-style tatami rooms and great onsens. There are several restaurants to choose from within the hotel (and, unlike some Japanese hotels / ryokans, you don't need to book in advance), and even karaoke rooms! The location opposite Shirahama Beach was great, and Shimoda is just a short drive away.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: staff are courteous and helpful despite knowing little English. Room is spacious and comfortable
Cons: Could provide with more pillows in the rooms; pillow was not firm enough
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding buffet breakfast especially Japanese style selections; excellent indoor and outdoor onsen baths; lovely ocean view from tatami room--perfect for sunrise. Loved the ping pong room, though charge to rent was a bit high.
Cons: Room was quite expensive.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quite a lot variety of food for breakfast. Also we loved that we didn't need to take towels to onsen from room as they have the towels (small towel/bath towel) in the changing room. The staff was lovely and some of them can speak English as well.
Cons: We really wished the pool was open through October as it's still warm in Shimoda. And the WiFi was bit slower than other hotel. And also you can't see the ocean from outdoor onsen.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast menu was the same.imagine someone staying for a week n having the same breakfast everyday.plus not tht good taste wise
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The view was amazing.
Cons: The room was too old and dirty. The wall paper was coming off and the furniture was really old and damaged.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was prefect! Very close to the beach and close to Family Mart. Unfortunately the 7/11 right next door was boarded up. Not sure if it plans on reopening. The snack bar restaurant in the hotel was great and convenient. Breakfast was good as well! The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I would stay there again.
Cons: A little bit old, but that can’t be helped :)
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice view
Cons: Facility is bit old, but very clean.

Cons: Very out dated and couldn't check in till after 3pm.. Not good when you've been traveling for 18hrs and arrive at 10am
6.7 Good
Pros: The hotel is located in a good place. It is close to the city. Staff in the hotel is very polite and enthusiastic. The rooms are comfortable and they have an ocean view. I loved the lobby, is very comfortable and quiet.
Cons: The cleaning service failed several times. They just changed towels, but they didn't clean the rooms. Also, the hotel has some cockroach. The rooms do not have a microwave, this is very important especially for babies. Be careful with the lifts, they close the doors unexpectedly, so this is very dangerous for kids.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Close to Shirahama beach!
Cons: Parking very bad and I went in my 4 wheeler and still had problems parking! And the road is very narrow! Onsen is not a onsen just a hotsie bath! There’s only soap and shampoo but no rince or treatment, and no hair dryer and the TV is very small to see from the back of the room! Needs tables by the beds! My wife disliked this pension..!

Pros: V little
Cons: No wifi in my room No hot water No privacy ( 7 visits in 3 hours to fix the hot water) No breakfast option even though a full house. Onsen was small and dated Very dated decor. Staff were generally so so in service. And attitude

4.2 Okay
Pros: The location is nice on top of a cliff, with panoramic sea views.
Cons: Overall, I felt that what was offered, was in no relation to the price tag (we paid around JPY 32k or USD 300 per night). Here is why: The facilities are run down and it is clear that no substantial investments have been in decades. In the room: if you look carefully, you will find stains in the carpet and on the window board, the shower head spayed all over, hair drier was about to die, and many parts in general are worn down. The pool is rather small, we were the only ones using it, so it was fine, but given that this is a big hotel, it will quickly become too small, if other people were to join. More so , the pool area lacks charm - only some simple and very dirty plastic chairs are standing there, without any cushions etc. no pool towels are available either. You have to bring the one from your room, which quickly gets wet. Spare towels are not foreseen.... you only get fresh ones the next day, in case you stay longer. Staff attitude was generally okay, but there was one disappointment... upon arrival at noon, I asked, if an early checking is possible, the answer was that 1 hour earlier than checking time might be possible (2pm instead of 3pm), however only at an extra fee (which I think was around 4-5k JPY)! I don’t mind to pay a bit extra, if it is several hours early, but that felt like a rip off for me. Also there is no dinner option in the hotel, except a small ramen shop, which opens only after 8pm. The main hotel restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch. Not ideal, if you have a small boy, like us. Since the location is a bit secluded, there are also no other restaurants, which could be reached on foot. I would not stay there again.
7.5 Good
Pros: Amazing view from the room, with a nice onsen and great staff.
Cons: Fairly expensive for rooms that are nothing special. Breakfast buffet was underwhelming.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The spa/bath facilities were very nice and well maintained! The view of the ocean from the hotel is AMAZING! Great location if you like solitude! The shuttle staff/van was very nice and punctual!
Cons: The facilities are very dated. There are water stains on the ceilings, wallpaper peeling off the wall, and the hotel smells musty. The rooms smelled as well.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel, perfect room, very good bath, inside the hot springs and in the ocean. The free shuttle buss every morning to Shimoda was a great way to get in to the city, and back again in the afternoon.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful and the view from the property was beautiful. The WiFi was free and quite fast and we were given a nice brochure telling us about all the beaches in the area which was nice.
Cons: The breakfast for 2000 yen was sub par and the word “balcony” is a little bit of a stretch for what it was. It would’ve been nice to have a dehumidifier in the room as the humidity meant that nothing dried. Lighting was dull, rooms and buildings quite old and dated. No free towels to take to the beach and the bottom of the sliding doors looked like they were covered in mould but when we looked closer it was actually painted like that. Not a good decoration choice at all
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good view, nice hot spring!
Cons: Haven't seen a breakfast worse than this! There are few types, and it will not be added after eating!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location is great.
Cons: Nice staff, bit basic for the price.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view from the hotel is beautiful. Waking up to an ocean view every morning was awesome. Being a Japanese style hotel, the rooms were very spacious. The hotel is near a bus-stop allowing easy access to public transport. The staff were super friendly. You can see that they love engaging with their customers.
Cons: The breakfast buffet isn't the best. The food is really good but there is little variety. Breakfast was supposed to be for 1 hr but less than thirty minutes in, they stopped refilling the foods. Being a buffet, food quickly goes and if you weren't fast, you missed out (especially when it came to the fruits).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay at Shimoda View Hotel. Every single say we would go to the onsen, which has an amazing view on the sea :) Patrick, the front desk receptionist, spoke perfectly english and was very helpful. I forgot my bag at the hotel when leaving for Tokyo, and he nicely agreed to send it to our hotel in Tokyo. Thank you very much for everything!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and they had a representative that spoke great English.
Cons: No complaints.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room, private Onsen and almost everything
Cons: No towel holder near the sink
5.0 Okay
Pros: Near to the beach
Cons: This is not a resort .The pictures do not reflect the reality . The building is limited in facilities , outdated and unloved . The 'spa' element of the hotel consists of a small onsen with showers which are weak and the fixtures are old and a bit grubby .The jacuzzi wasn't running when we arrived -we had to ask them to clean it (it had a cover on it that was filled with rainwater and leaves ,and the jacuzzi itself was filthy ).They did promptly clean it ,which took them over an hour by which time we wanted to go to the beach and ended up using it on our return ,in the evening . There are only TWO sun loungers (the hotel can accomodate up to around 40 people !) The two sun loungers were being used ,so we asked the staff for two more -they said they didn't have anymore -this is truly absurd . There is no bar , the restaurant does last orders at 8.30pm so when we arrived at 8 .50pm we were already too late for food and they couldn't offer us anything (despite a staff member sitting there and eating ) Without a car it is not possible to reach local restaurants in the evening ,so we had nothing for dinner . There is no atmosphere , little staff presence and the place could be a lot cleaner and definitely needs a repaint .The overall feel of the place is that of a souless budget hotel -we paid 233 pounds for 2 nights out of season - absolutely not value for money. In summary, avoid this place.
6.3 Good
Pros: Close to nice beaches. Pool available.
Cons: The brst days of the house are gone. Facade urgently needs new painting. No space in the rooms for lagguage and no shelfs or tables to lay things on. Bes are so large that they need the whole room. Old airconditin with water dropping down on the floor. Poolarea and restaurant could need some decoration, maybe plants arround the pool. Some public areas look like a storage room. Dinner was really fantastic but too expencive. Hard to communicate with staff, hardly no English.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, organized, and super helpful staff! Recommend I’ll back certainly
Cons: No karaoke

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice view. Great restaurant.
Cons: The TV is small.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nicely located and directly at the beach, all rooms have a magnificent view onto the ocean.
Cons: The hotel isn’t really worth it in terms of value for money (buffet dinner costs 60$/adult) and as it isn’t anymore the newest hotel the price per night was way to high. What they don’t tell you is that you will pay 30$/day and person for being able to use their private beach.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, spacious renovated rooms, views, decent breakfast, overall excellent value
Cons: Property is aging and it shows, especially in corridors/common areas, room toilets could use renovation too
7.1 Good
Pros: Very nice and friendly personal which makes you feel home
Cons: Very old hotel itself - you need to understand it when you come here I have tattoos and was not able to visit swimming pool and onsen
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Best view one can expect of the ocean Cleanliness and 4 person were able to easily accommodate with enough space
Cons: no microwave service convenience store little far away
7.5 Good
Pros: The room with the ocean view and the sound of the waves.
Cons: The beach was rocky

Pros: The hotel is located in a good place. It is close to the city. Staff in the hotel is very polite and enthusiastic. The rooms are comfortable and they have an ocean view. I loved the lobby, is very comfortable and quiet.
Cons: The cleaning service failed several times. They just changed towels, but they didn't clean the rooms. Also, the hotel has some cockroach. The rooms do not have a microwave, this is very important especially for babies. Be careful with the lifts, they close the doors unexpectedly, so this is very dangerous for kids.
