Historic rooms are fantastic - food very good quality for the price and the staff couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable.
We stayed in an historic room - everything was very old but the maintenance / housekeeping was poor - lamps with no shade, broken bulbs. dirty windows, quite dusty - although the linen was clean and the room freshly decorated. A little bit of attention would make a huge difference!
We only stayed one night, but it was very nice. Photography is a hobby and I spent half the night poking around and taking photos and the staff was helpfull and supportive.
The only downside was we were on the top level, there is a winding staircase that really winds and is steep. I had two heavy bags as well as the person I was with. It was really hard on him and he had to sit down to rest at the top. I know it is a historic building, but I am sure there is a way to install a small lift for luggage. When you book, ask for a lower floor or ask them to have some carry your bags up.
Location was in easy reach of main attractions. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. The hotel ambience and actual building were very interesting due to the historic value. All in all very comfortable and relaxing.
Could have been some more facilities but again due to the nature of the hotel building (historic) this did not detract from a great visit and the hotel building itself is very impressive.
The appearance of the buildings, the wedding reception, bathroom was large .
No extractor in bathroom, large pipes all around rooms, door had to be locked rather than self locking, water stain on ceiling in corridor. Some staff quite inexperienced and spilled drinks on me and did not apologise or offer any recompense.
