Breakfast, the staff, the room, the location
Very quiet
Location..great room.
Valet staff was excellent.
It is a historic hotel. Although the square footage was decent, it was broken into small rooms. So the room itself felt small and somewhat cramped. The bathroom was small and cramped. Hallways were not well lit. Carpeting appeared to need a change. The bar is small and open only until 10 pm.
Historic, but comfortable
Service was lovely, the room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean. I would come back again
A bit dated, but that is part of the historic charm. Could use a few more outlets.
Nice hotel, bad door handles
The hotel was nice. I stayed on the top floor, in the back, which was quiet. It’s a basic hotel, so there were not too many things I could critique. Overall it was decent, and bar was small and intimate. I parked using the Spot Hero app, which saved me a lot of money. Gone are the days when I pay $45-$60/night for parking. I paid $45 for the whole weekend just down the street.
I didn’t like the pillows (personal preference) and the door knob to the room, which was very hard to open. How would handicapped people open the door? Also, I didn’t see any recycling, a must in today’s world. The room could use a refrigerator.
A great location for a fun or romantic trip to DC
The service was excellent. The location is extremely handy to many locations - like the White house the downtown theaters, the Smithsonian
Good location, but...
Location is awesome.
Pillows were hard (I am picky), plumbing fixtures were broken (reported, not fixed, reported again), coffee not replaced for next morning two times, TV's are not HD. On a positive note, we had an excellent steak in their restaurant and the service there was outstanding.
Nice little place...
It was a cute hotel in the center of the city. Very reasonable rates walk right behind for a great steak dinner. $5 Uber to any place in town. Valet service was a bit unnecessary.
Didn't meet expectations
King-size bed, bath tub, robe provided
Slow internet, load air system, small bedroom
The room was bright, clean and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchenette was fantastic! Stocked with the best shortbread cookies!
The double doors were unnecessary. Bathroom was a bit small.
Historic Hotel
Great location, walk to anywhere. Spacious room with separate kitchenette. Elegant and stylish. My wife enjoyed the makeup table in the room. Helpful staff.
Noisy HVAC. Slow draining shower / tub with slippery bottom. Not enough outlets to power all our devices at once.
woman checking me in on 11/22 was great. very comfortable bed. great location.nice tv, internet hookup great, concierge very nice and helpful.
unfortunately, i was not given the wake up call at 5 15 am like i requested.also, it was tricky to adjust the thermostat to desirable temperature.
People were nice, exellent location, free internet, complementary water / news paper/ gym/coffee/ very cozy
coffee machine broke
good location,location,location.
I love "historic hotels" and this is a really nice one, with the upgrades that matter--excellent, comfortable beds, free internet, good location, helpful staff.
You have to climb up stairs from the tiny lobby to the main floor. Is there wheel-chair access? I couldn't tell.
Hotel was conveniently located and quiet generally. Since I only stayed for one night I did have time to form any strong opinions on the place.
I thought the price was high but perhaps not given the address on Penn. Ave. The staff failed to inform me when room was available having arrived early in the morning.
coosiness
the elevator is really outdated
Friendliness of the staff
Staff far more "accessible", more communicative. Seemed also to be more folk around to help ... bellmen, etc.
I can never remember how to run the thermostats ... I wish each room had an instruction card. Had to chuckle >>> When checking out, I noted to staff that the toilet might be clogged ... they gve me a comment card and suggested I mail the report of my jammed toilet in! I guess my comment lost something in its presentation, all wokred out oki.
The room was very spacious and very well located.
The staff service was particularly slow. We booked in for the Thanksgiving set dinner at the Cafe Lombardy, but when we sat down were initially told there was no more turkey. When pushed, the waiter said we could have the last serve and informed another table they would have to choose from the A la carte menu.
Great welcome from the doorman to the elevator operator (yes, they have old fashioned elevators); all staff seemed very interested in helping guests in every way; well-maintained and updated older hotel with great character
