Pros: Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. We felt at home right away. Everything is clean and the atmosphere is calm. Exceptional service. Although we didn't make a reservation for the shuttle bus in time, they still picked us up and saved our day. Thank you very much for making our stay so memorable!
Cons: When we wanted to pay upon Check-out, we encountered problems with our credit cards. The staff was friendly and tried immediately to solve the problem. In the end it was that we would have needed to enter the PIN to confirm the payment. It seems that this process is not common with japanese cards.

6.7 Good
Pros: The onsen is very nice, the outdoor pools were great and i got to.experience them with falling snow. The reception staff are very helpful.
Cons: the breakfast is ok, lots of variety but low quality. The dinner option which is quite expensive is a buffet option only. It is also medium quality like the brekafast at an elevated price. Sadly there is only a 7-eleven nearby, and buses stop at 5pm.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Hotel provided free shuttle bus to a nearby night festive event.
Cons: The buffet dinner and breakfast is not a preferential style for an onsen hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was awesome. There were so many nice choices for breakfast and dinner. Free shuttle to and from the Aizu-Wakamatsu train station at set times, which was convenient for us. The onsen was terrific. The open air 3 level onsen had an great view of the town below. My double bed room was supposed to have 1 queen bed, but it seemed like it was a king bed and was roomy enough for 2 of us, but my friends had a twin bed/family room with a tatami area and a sitting area. It was huge and beautiful and was only $50 more per night and I would choose that room next time!
Cons: Crowded buffet at peak time. Barely space to walk. No wifi in the bedrooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful contemporary Japanese design room that was spacious and had a view of the city. Modern outdoor baths had excellent views of Aizu Wakamatsu. Buffet dinner and breakfast were excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an all inclusive property you get dinner and breakfast. The massage was an amazing price and onsen had unbelievable views. Good selection in buffet between western and japanese cuisine.
Cons: Considering you are in the north of Japan language barrier was there. Only one person during our stay spoke English. Not a big deal, but in a hotel would be nice to have multiple staff members who spoke English.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good quality services and facilities are good
Cons: Shuttle bus service should run more frequent
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good value for money. Great onsen and facility
Cons: No internet, both wifi and lan, in room
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view from the tower rooms, dining hall and baths; baths were very nice and relaxing; rooms were spacious; souvenir / convenience shop on site; Game Center on site; convenient shuttle to the train station as well as Iimoriyama and the castle
Cons: No WiFi in the room (lobby only); location on top of a hill so it is a little hard to access without a car (we called for a shuttle from the nearby bus stop and they came in two minutes)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: View was lovely, had the room facing the river. Staff were courteous and always helpful from the moment we booked the accomodations, all the way till the return trip to the train station. Room was well equipped and quite new.
Cons: Slight smoke smell in the lobby/common areas but not noticeable in the room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The property was beautifully placed on a river bank, secluded in the mountains. Very clean rooms, awesome balcony with a view with our own private onsen on our balcony. Kaiseki dinner was excellent with numerous dishes and surprises. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Cons: Location was a bit far to travel to but so worth it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great view, very spacious and authentic room, quite and very big hotel. Breakfast and great dinner were included in cost. Baths work till midnight, all necessary cosmetics is provided. Very beautiful interior, authentic decoration. Big souvenir shop in the lobby. Not the most comfortable variant to get to (took us 6 hours from Tokyo, with switching trains and buses), but totally worth it.
Cons: We didn’t get what to do with lunch, as it was not provided in the hotel, and all the cafes around were closed. Had to lunch with instant noodles bought in the only working shop :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing. The location and scenery were breathtaking. The dinners were some of the best we have had in Japan - they really treat you like family here! Very few English speaking staff, but we did not find any issue with this. Everyone was very patient and accommodating.
Cons: The only downside of the whole experience was that the room was very hot, and was centrally controlled with no air conditioning. However when we raised this with the staff, they gave us a fan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean rooms, located in a beautiful valley in Fukushima, probably the best dinner I’ve had at a ryokan (I’ve been in Japan 18 years), professional staff, and great onsens

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, awesome view overlooking the river and valley, especially with private open air bath on the balcony , very friendly and helpful staff, exceptional service. Hotel very nicely decorated, clean with beautiful landscaping.

Pros: Breakfast was good- room location was awkward had to go thru a restaurant to get to our room. Thankfully the resto was not too busy and was dinner only but still a bit odd set up.
Cons: Had to take a shuttle to get car and the shuttle was not that frequent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good View, Good Place. Transportation stop in front of the Hotel, but the hotel have shuttle bus contact front desk. I love atmosphere at there all the time. Beautiful, And all staffs pay intention. I love my room because nice view mountain and waterfall. Yummy meal dinner and breakfast many food. Love
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best onsen experience ever! I travelled with my partner and we loved every bit of it. Amazing views from the room, very traditional yet modern style with tatami and all the good things of a ryokan, tea in the room, Mochi cakes .. The service during dinner was outstanding , kaiseki dinner with seasonal and local products including koi fish sashimi, Mochi , sukiyaki and nabe all beautifully presented and explained by the waiters step by step. Breakfast is buffet with a huge variety of different dishes ( Japanese cuisine) and Mochi made in the moment in ( an activity in which you can participate). Was all super delicious. Hot spring baths are separated in women and men as usual in Japan but you can book the use of a private bath with your partner or friends for a reasonable price. All the baths ( outdoor and indoor) as well as the bedrooms are overlooking a massive river with waterfalls. Very relaxing experience we will never forget. Don’t hesitate , if you enjoy Japanese food and want to have a nice break!

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Harataki in Aizuwakamatsu, you'll be just steps from Higashiyama Onsen and Oyakuen Garden. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Private onsen. Location. Natural views (waterfall view behind the hotel is a plus) Super clean rooms and facilities. private Karaoke rooms were awesome.
Cons: breakfast and dinner options were limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We went and saw the local attractions such as the castle and the local town. We also went hiking in the mountains and the weather was great. The private ryukon session was also lovely, private and relaxing.
Cons: Many of the patrons smoked in their rooms and we could smell it. I believe that this is common in Japan to smoke inside. Also, some of the staff did not speak English. This is ok as some did and were able to help :D
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We really liked how the overall hotel looked like and the view in the lobby as well in the hotel room. All the staff were accommodating and it was really a comfortable stay for us. The food was great and of course the private onsen is definitely a must-experience.
Cons: Options of transportation from the hotel are limited to two: the bus that goes around Aizu or Taxi. This makes the trip to and from the hotel to the train station a little bit too expensive. Also, I think there was a slight miscommunication if we can have dinner in the hotel as the receptionist told us there was no dinner available which is why we ate outside instead.
7.1 Good
Pros: The hotel was nice, but not overally beautiful like some of the photos allude to. Even though we traveled during a holiday weekend it was still quiet. No one was at the bar or karaoke parlor except for us. We paid for breakfast to be included during our stay and this was great. It was a traditional Japanese breakfast and there was a buffet with items for a westernized breakfast.
Cons: We choose non-smoking but the hallway still smelled like stale smoke. Thankfully our room did not smell like smoke. The Onsen would have been more enjoyable if we could feel the breeze from the cool outside air. However there is a glass railing preventing us from feeling the outside breeze while in the water. Only once you stand up, to where you body is taller then the glass, do you feel the breeze. Also, I'm not sure if it was coming from the river or the building, but it smelt like sewer, which was disgusting and not romantic.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The baths. Milk mashine in the lobby. Nice big room and food was exelent.
Cons: Was expecting more baths than just two. The riverside dining area was off limits for the season. Hard to find, buss does not go all the way up, you need to walk the rest ( about 8 min.) to the hotel.
7.9 Good
Pros: Excellent food - dinner as well as breakfast. Wonderful Onsen Area and beautiful view on the snow and mountain.
Cons: Room looks a little bit dated and didn’t quite fit the same high standard as the restaurant or onsen area, but had everything we needed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was beautiful, staff accommodated to language barrier and it was very clean!

Pros: Good Location Near JR Station Nice staff
5.4 Okay
Cons: The lighting in the room has a yellow hue to it. A lighter or brighter hue would be better in my opinion. The room that I got was a non smoking one but it smelled funny. The room showed its wear and tear through the years.

Pros: There was a microwave available at reception
Cons: In dire need of a refurb. Mould in the bathroom and broken tiles. Parking was confusing and there weren't enough spaces. I has requested feather free bedding due to an allergy and the duvet was down feathers which I didn't discover in time.

Pros: Spacious room, by Japanese standards. Japanese style bathroom. Good breakfast with a variety of choices. Friendly, efficient staff. Easy walk to Tsuruga-jo and Suehiro Sake Brewery. Inexpensive taxi ride from the train station. Laundry facilities.
Cons: Single small window, when combined with dark furnishings, made the room somewhat claustrophobic. Small flat pillows. Noisy air conditioner.

Pros: I really enjoyed my stay in the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I liked the beds a lot as well. There was some nice tea in the room too. The room was quiet, which I think is important. They give you the option to have the rooms cleaned or not, and I got some water bottles too. It was clean and elegant.
Cons: Would have been good if there had been a convenience store nearby.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, especially the honey, very impressive.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great. Great staff. very clean. easy walking to temples and shopping.
Cons: Crowded room. Beds took up most space. Didn't need the second bed. I thought my daughters room would be connecting and was on a different floor. They called it family room. My husband and I didn't need the family room with 3 beds.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was possible to open the window and get fresh air. Very calm. Nice neighborhood. Every morning newspaper (only japanese) In the evening free coffee. Nice lobby/lounge Very friendly staff. Old fashioned room key, you had to let at the front desk when leaving for daytour, but every evening got my key, even without having to say the room number. They helped me to fill in the paper in japanese for sending the luggage. Eco-friendly: possibility to put a sign on the door, for not having the room cleaned and linen and towels changed. If you choose to get your room cleaned: every day a new bottle of water in the fridge. Be careful if not: garbage is not put out. Very convenient location. 20 Minutes walking to station (where buses are starting, and you can find rental car) or to the castle. Free parking space Had a room on same floor as vending machine, ice cube maker, microwave and washing machine with english explanation: convenient. Curtain to the tiny hallway, so you would not be disturbed from light outside of the room. I enjoyed my stay at the New Palace Hotel and hope to come back.
Cons: you could not reach the window to open it, without climbing over the bed. The length of the bed was as large as the room itself. Few english, but at check in they had some helpful printed out instructions and phrases in english. No closet in the room
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room had enough space around the bed, the bathroom and shower were very good. The bed was very comfortable.
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel was a good base to explore the region. It was reasonably close to the train and bus.
