It's Hakkoda, so options are limited, spring, summer or winter Hakkoda Hotel is a great option. They dont have a lot of english, but the staff are helpful and work hard to please. Goolge Translate fills in the gaps. If you are familiar with this area, you will know that entertainment outside the hotels is limited and so are food options. the Hakkoda hotel, gives you a choice of French or Japanese evening meal, and likewise for breakfast. We decided we could not eat all their set meals, and the staff were happy to accommodate and do toast and eggs for breakfast.
If you are staying here in the winter, and want to access the ropeway. Expect long delays, an Hour wait for the cable car is normal these days. Remember also that if the wind gets up (above 45kph), they close for the day, this means you need consider what you will do on those mandatory days off. Last thing to remember, the road is closed between 8:00pm and 8:00 am through the winter.
Staffs, food and the onsen water.
The dinner was a bit rushed.
The service staff is awesome. The room is big and comfortable. The amenities in the room is good. The onsen experience at Sukayu was wonderful. The water is excellent, and the changing rooms are well thought-out for the women's section so it doesn't feel awkward as you get to the mixed bath. We went twice in a day, and were fortunate to have a traditional song performance right at the mixed bath. Wonderful experience.
The dinner was mediocre. Breakfast is close to awful - we had the american as well as the traditional selection. The meals is big part of Japanese hospitality and the expectation, and it was disappointing. We've stayed at different hotels and ryokans and have had better food and experience. The wing at A block where we stayed was far from reception. We went on to stay at other onsen places after this, and it was much more memorable than the stay here, in terms of food, scenery, and onsen experience. Not worth the price paid.
The dinner was superb and the breakfast too!! Never expected to find such good chef and food in a resort in the midst of the mountains. Definitely worth the price paid for!!
Everything was great!!
