Decent location (in terms of proximity to the subway, see below for actual hotel location), bed was clean and comfortable, check-in and check-out was smooth. Value was the price was pretty good, and I'd recommend this place if you want a no-frills place to sleep in a central location.

A few things: (1) Location is down a dark alley that cars can't drive through, so if, like me, you're a solo female traveler, it feels a little bit sketchy to walk to the hotel at nighttime. But not a big deal. (2) The bathroom and shower room are shared, and when I was there, there was a big group of men showering and brushing their teeth (all shirtless) so I felt too awkward to try to shower. (3) Walls are paper thin. Woke up to the aforementioned group of men talking because the bathroom was right across from my room. (4) MOST IMPORTANTLY: I asked the front desk some questions related to my visa-free stay in China, as only certain hotels are willing to host visa-exempt travelers because of the extra paperwork with registering guests with the local police department. I emailed the property twice before arriving in China to make sure it was okay, and they told me repeatedly that it was fine. When I mentioned this to the person at the front desk, he said he had no idea what I was talking about and told me to ask a different hotel. And when I asked some other questions (the location of the closest police station, etc) he dismissed me and told me to ask other hotels because he didn't know. Poor customer service, and now I might be blacklisted from entering China again because my stay was not recorded officially by Ming Courtyard. (5) Wi-fi didn't work. And no breakfast (But you probably already knew these things from the other reviews)

The location is the best thing about this place.

The staff and the service. When we arrived, they did not have our room available. They said they have no more rooms with the characteristics of our booking. They tried to give us a smelly and ugly bedroom with a double size bed (our booking was for two single beds). We manifest our discontent to stay in that room, and only then they upgrade us into a nice room with two single beds. I mean, if we didn't manifest the hostel would have gave us a horrible room. This is not fair since we have booked previously. This is not a nice way of treating travelers.

The location was excellent. We loved walking around the Hutong and found it very convenient to arrive to metro stops and other transportation. The general appearance of the hotel and courtyard appeared very authentic and was nice and relaxing.

Of all of the hotels that we stayed at in China on this trip both of our rooms in Ming Courtyard had the least comfortable beds. We also found that the carpeted floors in the room could have been better maintained but the facilities were kept very clean and the bathrooms were very nice.

We appreciated the location and the large courtyard which was perfect for relax.

We didn't like the dirty carpet, and the stinking bathroom which is often the problem in big cities of China.
