Great location and price
Bathroom needs to be updated.
A little dated
Nice staff and comfortable bed. The room was great just could use some upgrades
Breakfast was just okay and the bathroom was dated. The internet didn’t work well
one moment can spoil it all
Normandy Inn is a charming small place, located on the main street in Carmel, close to everything, including the beach. We checked in into two rooms, both in good shape, recently renovated, clean, and comfortable. Mattresses were comfortable too. Breakfast was adequate: cereal, some pasties, fruit and hard boiled eggs.
We had a dispute with the two clerks on duty regarding our reservation: they thought that we had reserved three rooms while in fact we had only two. After a cordial greeting, the discussion turned into arguments. In the end we found that they have misread our reservation. No apologies were offered. Some patience and a simple "sorry" would have helped.
The Normandy Inn is a historic and romantic property packed with country furnishings, flowers, and Old World charm. The hotel presents an overall feeling that makes guests feel like they’re walking through the pages of a storybook. Quaint and romantic, this hotel is ideal for couples.
The surrounding area is quiet, composed mainly of other historic inns and luxury vacation homes. Although not directly facing the ocean, Carmel Beach is just a short, 13-minute walk away, while restaurants and shops at Ocean Avenue is just a six-minute walk. A scenic drive through Pebble Beach is five minutes away, and it’s less than 20 minutes to Point Lobos, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Garrapata State Park.
As a boutique hotel, the amenities are limited, but there are freebies such as free breakfast, parking, WiFi, and an inviting outdoor pool. The free breakfast buffet includes a selection of breads, fresh fruit and muffins, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and cereal. There are also free sherry and shortbread cookies in the lobby every afternoon. Hot drinks such as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the lobby are available most of the day.
The 48 rooms are well-maintained and old-fashioned without being too dated. Accommodations come in a variety of sizes with double twin beds and comfortable king and queen beds. Cottages and suites are larger, with more space and separate kitchens. The decor in rooms and cottages keep with the historic style and is on the old-fashioned side, featuring classic wooden furniture along with floral bedspreads. Some rooms offer fireplaces and partial ocean views.
With an aesthetic reminiscent of a European country home and a quaint setting among other historic inns, the boutique Normandy Inn is charming all around.
