The location is great. The windmills are fantastic. The peace and tranquillity are wonderful. The room was basic but perfectly fine, the heaters worked, so it was cosy.
We hadn't realised the classic double room had access to a kitchen. If we'd known we wouldn't have ordered the dinner which was overpriced and not particularly good. We had no cold water in our room (or in the kitchen area), not pleasant to brush your teeth. The shower was scalding. There was a cold water tap outside in the courtyard. Breakfast was fine, I don't really understand the rave reviews though. The bread with dinner, breakfast and packed lunch was very dense and hard. I wouldn't bother with the packed lunch in hindsight. There is no wifi in the rooms or in the common area of the lower buildings.
Accommodation lovely. Very comfy. Staff very pleasant. Breakfast great with freshly baked bread.
The evening meal was very disappointing. Both our main courses were poor. My partner's meat pie was small, tasteless and had hardly any meat in it. I couldn't eat my fish as it came in a heavy milky sauce.
Maria seems like a very kind, hard working woman, who despite not speaking English, (and me not speaking Portuguese), made me feel welcome. There is a lovely common area, with a fire. The rooms have central heating, and are lovely and snug.
Very expensive for a solo hiker on Rota Vicentina. Evening meal is €20...not as said in a previous review €10. It would be great if they would do a discount bed and meal option for hikers. The place itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, right next to electricity pylons, and a large area to the south of the property is a very neglected farm, full of dead or dying Cork oaks.
Fantastic property that grows its own herbs and orchard. Maria and florabella and great hosts, providing an amazing 4 course meal for €10 on request. We stayed after walking a day, so the warm rooms and bath were fantastic. The views are fantastic. Can’t recommend it enough.
On the route of GR 11 historical Way Rota Vincentian.
