The staff was friendly though the communication was difficult st best. They tried to help the best they could. They were good people. If not for the World Cup, one should not pay more than $50 a night if in a crunch to find a place.
The surrounding area was sketchy but ok during the daytime. At night; however, one is better off walking in large groups. It definitely did not look safe and it was not, although my buddy and I did venture out to the historical neighborhood. This is cited as one of the strong points of the hotel, but should be done in daytime. The amenities (TV & phone were the only ones) are old-very old and the WIFI did not work one if the two nights we were there. There was another section to this alleged hotel ( it's more like an old Motel 6) that had been painted and some renovations may have been done, but can not comment. If one is comfortable with sketchy neighborhoods and can get this on the cheap, then it is an ok place to stay. We paid almost $100 a person ($200) a night and it is not worth it.
