This hotel was beautiful. The staff was professional and friendly. It far exceeded our expectations for function and luxury. The lobby area had a sitting area, and I believe it also hosted a bar as well. When we checked in, the receptionist graciously upgraded our room due to one being available without me having to ask or an additional fee. This room featured a lovely view of the church behind from the window. While we did not stay in the Haymarket area and opted to spend more time in Old Town, the neighborhood looked to be nice. The following day we had transportation later in the day and asked about storing luggage. The process was very professional, and they had a separate room dedicated to luggage storage. We were able to explore more of Edinburgh without worrying about cumbersome luggage, a huge plus.
The bathroom in our room was very nice, clean and stocked with the essentials. The only issue we had was with the shower. It was a shower tub combination and the shower head was detachable. When taking a shower, the showerhead holder was positioned in such a way that made the water shoot over the edge of the tub. While it was a mild inconvenience, it didn't hinder me from enjoying a nice shower after a long day of exploring the city.
Location and staff.
The bed was badly stained and we had to have it fully changed at midnight but I felt uncomfortable after that and really should have moved. Put a damper on the stay.
The staff were great & arranged taxis for us for a booking we had, the room we had was beautiful & quiet (as requested) & when we asked for more teabags they brought us a little bad full of more milk / coffee/ biscuits too, which was brilliant.
It was the food actually. The bread at breakfast was the super cheap, supermarket plasticky kind and when I asked for brown bread with my soup at the £50 evening meal on the first night, i was served the same only this time it was stale too & was obviously sat out all day since breakfast (aeroplane turned up hard edges and everything) which was really disappointing for the price.
Night staff where fantastic couldn’t have been more helpful if they tried
