9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Breakfast was hot and very good and flavorful. The lady at the desk was very apologetic to me about the things that went wrong. Trying very hard to make it better.
Cons: The hot tub was down :( My shower was cold the next morning :(
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nicely appointed room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very helpful and friendly. The complimentary breakfasts were very good. The location was off of U.S. 50 and very accessible and was located in a quiet area. Shower was awesome.
Cons: Nope
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed was very comfy. Indoor heated pool. Nice people and service great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just like Residence Inns. I can always trust them
Cons: No tray to take breakfast to my sleepy heads
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The indoor pool and hot tub were great for us and the grandkids
Cons: We were in a two bedroom suites. Each of the two rooms had a standard double bed. To accommodate our group queen size would have worked much better. I don't recall if that was an option. Sofa beds are always uncomfortable so the sofa was used by a single adult to sleep on.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location, cleanliness, hospitality, & comfortability
Cons: It was a little pricey.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely helpful, attentive, efficient, and full of enthusiasm. The rooms were clean. The bed fairly new and comfortable. The breakfast was much better than I expected for a breakfast buffet. The eggs were cooked, but not dry or watery. The sausage patties were cooked and juicy. They kept things well stocked. There was plenty of every offering they had, even with a fairly large crowd using the buffet.
Cons: Their card keys required several re-programmings while I was there. Seems they knew it was an issue as I was warned to take special care of the cards (keep away from metal, cell phone, magnets, other cards). I did this and they ( 3 different cards) still stopped working at least five times over a three day stay. They need to either replace all of their cards in stock or have their card programmer checked as this should not happen. They don't drop off a morning paper at the door. I miss this feature that used to be a standard amenity.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was very nice. Great value.
Cons: I’ve been trying to think of something and can’t think of anything right now.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Kitchenette, full size refrigerator, in-room amenities, indoor pool, Jacuzzi, hot breakfast!
Cons: The beds were not that comfortable, and the central heat and air unit was loud.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room felt modern and was well supplied!
Cons: Nothing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Customer service, modern style, cleanliness, location. VIP treatment for our dogs was sweet.
Cons: Very loud and crowded on Saturday night. Party vibe and and annoying selfies galore everywhere, but I suppose that's not fault of hotel.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfortable
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The room was really nice! It was in a great location. Staff was friendly.
Cons: The information regarding parking could've been better. I assumed we had the option to either self-park (through the hotel) or valet not realizing the hotel doesn't have a parking garage to self park so when I left at night I had to pay $18 through the city on top of the $70 overnight parking to then park with valet through the hotel. The pool was packed when we went to go swimming in the morning and the staff just walked around completely ignoring us instead of trying to help us find somewhere to sit. They had signs set up on tables saying the area was reserved for 10 am yet no one was even sitting there at 1130 am. Bad customer service when that's what their job is there to do. I called ahead to make sure my reservation was okay because the card I originally booked it under was cancelled. The lady I spoke with confirmed my reservation and confirmed with me that everything was good to go. I showed up to check in and the front desk lady then told me my reservation was cancelled?? Extremely frustrating after driving 8 hours to Sacramento and just wanting to get into the room and relax. Fortunately, they were able to rebook the reservation but it was just frustrating to have to do so.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was nice. Bed was nice.. staff was nice
Cons: Didn't like that i paid that much for a room and wasn't allowed to use the pool when i arrived at 300pm check in time and the pool was closed at 230pm... the MAIN reason i booked the room was for the pool

9.3 Excellent
Pros: I ended up having the same room as I had last year which was pretty sweet. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, AC/Heater worked, front desk was polite, just everything about the room and hotel was amazing. I'm going to be always staying here whenever I decide to book a hotel
Cons: Only thing I didn't like was that I had to check out, wished to stay longer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is close to a shopping mall and a variety stores plus there are a variety of restaurants nearby. The room rate was surprisingly quite reasonable. The hotel has a pool available. A free light breakfast is offered to guest The hotel and my room were immaculate and quiet
Cons: There are two rows of long tables with blue table cloths and chairs facing the front desk. This area suggests there will be conferences or who knows what, This looks odd especially having them near the entrance and the registration desk. If this area will provide space for meetings, conferences and etc. at least this furniture should be put in storage until this area is needed.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was clean. Beds are super comfortable. Love the interior design of the rooms.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice inside, but outside wasn’t that great
5.7 Okay

9.0 Excellent
Pros: It was near the Kaiser Hospital and was a fine place to spend the night prior to our medical appointment. I always enjoy staying at places that have free breakfast offered as well.
Cons: The bathroom was too small and there was hardly any place to put your clothes and cosmetics while showering. Also no bars in the shower to hold on to. We are seniors and it would be easy to fall in the shower.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff has been incredibly helpful! Made our stay even better.

Pros: This hotel is clean, easy and modern. Has a nice pool area. The rooms have a fridge and a safe. Great quality in its class. Room included breakfast which was fine. Could walk to outback steak restaurant and others including cheese cake factory a couple of mins walk. The mall that is a few mins away has great stores like maceys, apple etc.
Cons: It is close to malls and a bit further away from old Sacramento and downtown if you are looking for cultural visit.

Pros: Wonderful hotel with great views of the water. Clean and bed/pillows are amazing. Love the claw foot tub which I enjoyed.
Cons: New staff so was given a room at 3:45 for a 3:00 pm check in but there was someone in the room when we got there. I overheard them tell another party at 5:30 that there room was not ready. Again, check in at 3:00. The Valet team was amazing but they were under staffed in the bar due to having 2 Weddings, Graduations and some people for the prom. Would definitely go back but no during wedding season.

We’ll stay somewhere else next time.

Pros: Staff was really nice pool and gym for clean Also breakfast was great
Cons: Only thing to note was we found what look like blood smeared on the phone table next to the bed we called and they sent someone up within the hour to clean it but wasn’t the best feeling finding that house keeping shouldn’t have missed that .

Pros: The front staff was very nice and friendly. They all said hello and smiled when you came or went. Room was clean and comfortable. I couldn’t hear any neighbors my entire stay, which was great!

Pros: Breakfast was good and hotel facility excellent
Cons: WiFi didn’t work properly
6.8 Good
Pros: Good location and clean
Cons: Overpriced
7.5 Good
Pros: Decent breakfast
Cons: There was a unadvertised $10 charge that would come off your bill “if you don’t use anything in the room”, the only “thing” in the room other then the two bars of soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner was a bottle of water prices at $4. So why a $10 charge? Are you charged if you use the soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner? I think it’s deceptive pricing of the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They had completed a remodel since the last time we visited. Beautifully done.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was great no issues

Pros: Very clean room and building, The staff was very professional
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love everything about it! Always very friendly and accommodating, rooms are always spotless and the beds are so comfortable. The rooms aren’t the only area that’s clean, which I love, the whole facility is well maintained and I love how I feel safe leaving my car in the parking lot overnight. Always a pleasure staying here and will be staying again. Thank you!!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Easiness of booking and changing reservation dates on a short notice; had to change reservation from 2 nights to 1 night last minute. Front desk staff very personable and professional.
Cons: Pool not heated, hot tub dirty from outside debris, and no meat items with continental breakfast.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved how big the room was, how clean and cozy it was. The breakfast was amazing every morning, better than any other place I have stayed. The staff was super helpful and even call the room to check up on how we liked the room and if we where comfortable. Tazia was so great every single time.
Cons: There was a fee for our pet, I think it should be more of size of dog or no fee at all. Our dog is only 7 lbs total and she is so quiet. We have stayed in different hotels and there is no fee at all.
6.8 Good
Pros: The exercise facility was very good and the breakfast choices were very satisfying. The staff was very friendly and some of them were very helpful.....The property is in a very accessible location....easy to access the U.S. 50.
Cons: The WiFi was very poor and never worked for me. I went to the front desk and the desk clerk couldn't get the guest Wifi to work either. Also, when we checked in we asked for a room away from the freeway side of the property, but the desk clerk said there wasn't anything available on that side. I had requested a room away from the freeway when booking and we were checking in @ 2:30 and we knew that there was plenty of rooms available away from the freeway. We got an email apology from the desk manager after my wife contacted the property upon our return home. There are a lot of things worse than what we experienced, like losing a home or a loved one like many people have been experiencing during the wildfires here in California.....However, we had a very long drive ahead of us the next day because we were driving my disabled sister from Sacramento back to her home in Roseburg, Oregon so we wanted to be very awake for the 8 hour drive north. It seems that the room situation could have been easily resolved to our satisfaction at check-in. If the desk clerk didn't have the authority to give us the room in the location that we wanted, she could have asked the manager for assistance in giving their OK for us to have that room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I like the beers that were for sale at the front desk. Made my day so much better. It was july 4th and they game me free tickets to the events in the park.
Cons: I dont have anything to say.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good place the room is spacious
Cons: None
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The internet TV and access to Netflix was pretty cool.
Cons: No way to completely close the curtains, so mornings are eye opening. Room had a bunch of useless space. Asked for an extra ice bucket and was told they would have to hunt one down, and then I never got it. The phone in the room doesn't work properly, have to dial the hotel number from the room phone. The beds were not at all comfortable and they did not provide enough pillows. Just overall very disappointed for the money I paid.
4.0 Okay
Pros: They had availability.
Cons: Hidden costs- for pets. $75 for a pet. That is an all-time high in my experience. The brunch time was not clear on a holiday weekend- I got nothing! The place was torn-up and no bfast available after 9:00am on a Holiday weekend

7.5 Good
Cons: The air conditioning would not stay on and room got so hot in the night we didn’t sleep well
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nice staff, quick Valet good location.
Cons: Not my first stay here, you should tell people that upgrade to a corner suite that it’s facing the rear and side which is a construction zone. And room service might want to retrieve the trays of old dishes that sat the whole duration of our stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: At no point during the booking we were told that there would be $20 charge per day for parking even though you are staying at the hotel so for us having 4 night there was an additional $80 surprise charge on top of everything. Any snack or food item you purchase from them is extremely over priced a small bad quality sandwich was $14 and a soda can was $3. So if you have dont mind having $100s in surprise charge or other un expected charges and over priced item then it's your kind of place.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Best location for visitors.

Pros: your housekeepers wee THE BEST EVERRRR!! THEY WERE VERY SWEET and assisted us with extra soaps that we needed. The room was SPOTLESS!!! Bed...perfect Room service gentlemen were VERY kind and professional. Smiling and always asked if they could help with anything else.
Cons: Parking was not smooth both days that we stayed. The room key did not work in the checkout meter in the parking lot. Thank goodness OSCAR was there to assist us. It was his first day and was the kindest attendant. Keep that man in your staff. He apologized and was VERY HELPFUL.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location across from the capitol gave it a feeling of openness. The lobby downstairs was lively and the bar/pool area really nice to sit in. We ate at fabulous local restaurants and the distance to Old Town Sacramento and Riverwalk was easy.
Cons: It would have been nice if there was a connection with the gym from inside.

Cons: Broken swivel chair in room.

Pros: Happy Hour was a hit.
Cons: They had a conference set up on the floor to which we were assigned, so getting to our room was odd - it was walking down hallways with hotel furniture stacked along the way. I thought I wandered into the "back room" operations!

Overview Reviews
The Citizen Hotel is a 196 room boutique property with over 9,000 square feet of function space. The exterior of the building is an early 1900's classic design by architect George Selland. The interiors celebrate the history of California with unique décor that is whimsical with modern amenities. No two rooms are alike and all offer a different perspective of downtown Sacramento. Featuring a farm to fork destination restaurant Grange Restaurant & Bar which has received national accolades and is a local favorite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A landmark property that is tastefully and uniquely decorated. Very clean & comfortable. Elegant restaurant (price-wise breakfast is doable, but dinner is prohibitively expensive). Fabulous location all-around. And thank you for the complimentary coffee.
Cons: The lobby needed more AC. The viewing deck was only available for wedding and 13/14th floor guests.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location in heart of downtown Sacramento - easy walk to Capitol and lots of restaurants. Had delicious, healthy breakfast at onsite restaurant. Beds very comfortable. Nice view!
Cons: Our room was a tad small for two people and a little dark.
7.0 Good
Cons: Very loud noise from the park concert woke us up in the morning.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: They were able to give us food that wasn't listed on the menu.
Cons: Simpler breakfast choices.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was lovely and a welcome treat after camping and road tripping for the week. The location was perfect for getting to know Sacramento. The staff were extremely upbeat and friendly, especially Sammie, at the front desk! Sammie had great restaurant recommendations and sent up sparkling water to welcome us.
Cons: The room was well worth the price, but I feel like WiFi should be included rather than costing an extra $10 at this price point. It was the only (very minor) annoyance and I will still look forward to returning!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stylish, good position, excellent value for money, spacious room, very comfortable bed
7.0 Good
Pros: Charming and quirky decoration.
Cons: Vastly overpriced. Noisy (noise from outside); situated in a dodgy part of town with lots of homeless people and emergency bail kiosks; very little furniture in rooms to unpack your stuff into; the light switch by the bed was so high I had to get out of bed and stand up to operate it...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved this hotel. Great room in every way especially in its character.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the look and feel of the hotel. It was very beautiful. The location was perfect!
Cons: When I originally booked, our room had breakfast included. A few months later I went back and found a cheaper rate. The only difference was the new booking did not have the breakfast so it was a little deceiving that the room was at least $50 cheaper to not have the "included breakfast"
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beautiful and clean.
Cons: There was nothing wrong with the hotel, at all. But the city was desolate... restaurants, stores, and sites were all closed (permanently) or closed at 9 pm.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Quiet rooms. Location. Nice restaurant with great drinks and food.
Cons: No pool, no outside area to relax or just get out instead of being in the room the whole time. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is staying for more than one night. You will he bored.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Great boutique hotel.

Cons: AC was not cold even it was on 67F

Cons: The hotel shuttle that was advertised on the booking was unavailable. The person at the desk cited that I needed to reserve the shuttle 24 hours in advance and that she couldn't help me. But I made the booking less than 24 hours a go, so it was not possible. If this is the case, it could have been made more clear by stating that on the rules.

Pros: Josh's customer service was outstanding! Our shower/bath was not getting warm and he immediately was on it, worked to get it fixed and eventually moved us into another room with warm water. We all appreciated his attention to the water issue and prompt service! There was a night employee (young gentlemen) who went back to our room and retrieved the left behind "favorite" pillow of our daughter. So appreciated and done in a super fast manner! Wish we remembered his name! Both employees were extremely kind and had great customer service! Two thumbs up! :)

Pros: Loved how cold the room was! It was a hot day & was so nice to walk into a nice cool room.
Cons: I was disappointed in not having a King size bed, I ordered a king & paid for a king & the bed ended up being very small a full ? Maybe a queen... I really wanted a King.

Pros: Comfortable room, in a good, location. Breakfast was one of the best I've seen so far, as more than just coffee and bagels. The guy who oversees the breakfast couldn't have been nicer.
6.8 Good
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and the shower was really good. The breakfast was minimal - we only had a beverage.
Cons: There wasn't anything we didn't like. It actually was a quite well done update to an old property. It just wasn't charming.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Location wasn't too bad.
Cons: Not value for money, way too noisy, parking was atrocious first come first served and then charged for parking which was very tricky, as the bays were too small and some not even accessable, some of staff were rude - Not Ricardo serving the breakfast bar- he just needed a friend, constantly talking. I would never stay there again, a ripoff!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was right outside our room in nice day area, and it was fantastic and actually hot. Even though we were facing a street when inside room you could not hear any noise from traffic. Staff were so amazing and helpful, front desk and gentleman who greeted us from breakfast. Will stay here again.
Cons: Parking, we paid extra to park at hotel first time I ever had to do that. We were also told that even though we paid for parking we were not guaranteed a parking spot, to me that was ridiculous.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is very close to the capitol grounds. I also liked that Luna's was on the same block. I ended my evenings there before returning to my room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's clean and in a good location.
Cons: A little noisy in the morning, but it's quiet at night.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room and it had all the essential amenities (even microwave and fridge), friendly staff which made me feel right at home and best of all breakfast was also included. I had a very pleasant first experience and would stay at this hotel again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel overall was amazing, as was the food, the service, and the location was very convenient to where I was traveling from. I would like to shout out a very special person as well. Kaylin is an excellent employee, she was honest and upfront about everything, and I'm very thankful that she kept her word to help me out with the photography I wanted to do before I left for home. Every time I had a concern, she was there to solve it, people like that are hard to find nowadays, especially those who love their jobs, so to her and all the Hostel staff, God bless, and thank you for the awesome experience!

Cons: Can't think of anything.
7.0 Good
Pros: Serve breakfast for this kind of price.
Cons: Shared room with alot of strangers.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We weren't 100% on staying in Sacramento but we're so happy we did - and chose HI! The private bed was so comfy, it was quiet and clean. And the decore throughout the building was brilliantly period (Victorian). Plus, it had great food, beer and night out recommendations on a poster so we ended up hitting the silent disco nearby… Overall a great place to stay in the capital, with everything within walking distance. Would stay again!
Cons: Nothing to fault in all honesty - brilliant stay compared to many other hostels.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was superb and the Hostel's mansion simply beautiful and you felt the era of its elegance! Breakfast and taco night etc was great!
Cons: Exterior of mansion was being painted so it did not provide the opportunity to open bedroom windows for the nice breeze.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The room was clean.
Cons: There is renovation in the hotel (painting walls) so all windows are listed with plastic. It’s not mentioned and the hotel personnel thinks it doesn’t change anything but it does!
7.0 Good
Pros: It was in a pretty central location, so we were able to explore Sacramento without traveling far. The hostel was beautiful and the staff were really nice. Also, online it says you have to be 21 to get a room, but you only have to be 18.
Cons: It was much less of a social experience than I expected from a hostel, but that was okay because I didn't spend a lot of time there.

6.3 Good
Pros: The room was clean and spare. Bed was comfortable, the chaise lounge chair awful.
Cons: We were not able to check in to our rooms until 6pm, we had expected to be able to check in at 3. Our party of eight, total of four individual rooms rented, was exhausted and tired. When we arrived at 5:30 pm (after being told the rooms would be ready at 3pm), we had to wait another half hour before we could access the rooms that we had reserved several months previous.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff.
Cons: Odd shaped room with a big tile room just inside the door. Felt a little like an old laundry room that had been repurposed.
7.0 Good
Pros: Friendly staff. Breakfast was good
Cons: The maid didnt clean the room right Found a spider in the bathroom
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and cleanliness
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle to and from airport was easy and accessible. Also a nice restaurant next to hotel with great atmosphere and food!
Cons: Shuttle needed to be bigger or more often. In early morning (3am) there were two couples one from our hotel and one from another hotel both loaded down with many boxes, strollers and suitcases which took quite a while to load up in van. Nothing to do about it, but it was a bit hectic so early in morning.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The bathroom was large and well lit. The room was clean. It was close to places to dine out and to the airport.

6.3 Good
Pros: The best part was the staff and morning breakfast. My kids loved the waffles and sausage. The bathroom was clean which is always a plus.
Cons: Our floor reeked of burnt marijuana, along with the elevator. I informed the staff. It still smelled the next morning. Smelled a little in our room from the marijuana so I was going to open the window but there was no screen so I did t want bugs in. The ac/heat unit was broken and did not work. The beds were not that comfy.
