10.0 Excellent
Pros: My room was located two flights of safe stairs up in another building a few steps away from main reception. The bedroom and bathroom were compact, pleasantly decorated and very clean. I loved the view from the little balcony (outdoor table and two chairs provided). Breakfast choices were a variety of sweet cakes, bread roll with butter/jam/Nutella and good coffee. Pleasant staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location and lovely room. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Loved it. A special place and special town.
7.1 Good
Cons: I stayed at this hotel twice before in 2015 & 2016. Things that I loved at this accommodation are no longer offered: beakfast in the past offered greater variety...ham, cheese, breakfast rolls & fresh fruit, which is essential for those of us who are prediabetic or diabetic. Simone explained that sweet cakes are the traditional breakfast served in Italy. Sitting outside for breakfast was also no longer offered, which I truly missed. I couldn't help think that these changes were more about creating less work for the person in charge and cutting costs. Sad to see because it had an impact.. The noise level from the next door bar/restaurant made sleeping difficult. You were lucky if you fell asleep before 1am. Lastly, I was told I was unable to store small items in the fridge, something I greatly appreciated in the past, especially given the high temperatures. Ultimately, my experience was very disappointing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: we came with the car and it was very easy to park the car in a parking place about 7 minutes walking. The accommodation is very much in the center. The crew was very friendly. The room is very clean
Cons: To hotel is so much in the center that it is near to the church. The church bells make some noise in the night. They give some ear plugs to reduce the noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful charming little spot. Clean, comfortable, central (in the historic center) and we had our own little patio with a table and chairs. Would absolutely stay here again.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Location was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating - highly recommended!!!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good, the young lady who checked us in and served breakfast was lovely and friendly. Gubbio is so full of authentic Italian charm.
Cons: Would have preferred to be in the main hotel building and not have to access our accommodation via steep concrete steps next door. Room a little stark a few homely touches would make it more relaxing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Simple room and bathroom, but fine for price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Grand stylish and very comfortable accommodation. Delightful friendly and extremely helpful host. In a central location in the historic centre.
Cons: Nothing

Castello Di Petroia Relais - Gubbio - Bedroom
9.3 Excellent (202 reviews)
C$ 243+
Overview Reviews

9.2 Excellent
Pros: 11th century castle beautifully restored & updated. Family owned & run with staff who make you feel like family. Heartfelt hospitality. Wonderful breakfast served with love by Isabella. Terrific restaurant for dinner with an excellent Matre di, Paolo. Chef will try to accommodate special requests. Bucolic countryside with terrific views.
Cons: Not much, except perhaps the 1 mile of unpaved road to the property.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room. Excellent breakfast. The castle is very special. We felt like nobility (just a bit and for far to short a time). A special time to be remembered.
Cons: A bit remote. We were visiting a lots of towns and villages on this trip.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I'm a fan of castles and lets face it, some castles aren't "real" castles. Castello di Petroia is a "real" castle. It's also a luxury hotel out in the beautiful Umbrian hill country. The breakfast was outstanding and the dinner was awesome. The rooms are what you would expect from a luxury hotel. The staff was awesome and goes out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. We had to leave early our last day to catch a flight (before breakfast) and the staff made sure we had whatever breakfast things we needed before we left. My kids really enjoyed the resident cats. The pool was wonderful since we were in the middle of an unprecedented heat wave all over Europe. I wish the weather would have been nicer (not 40 C) as there are many trails I would've liked to explore.
Cons: If only we could fix global climate change so that we don't have 40 C days in June. That said, I have nothing negative to say about anything humans can control at Castello di Petroia.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We particularly loved the view from our bedroom window. It was surreal. The morning fog blanketed the hills and was pierced only by the occasional Italian Cypress and morning crow of a nearby rooster. We watched the fog lift as we drank our coffee. It was an unforgettable morning. Dinner and breakfast both were fabulous, with dinner being served in the on-site restaurant and complimentary breakfast being served in another area. We also appreciated the large desk that easily accommodated both of us as we did have some work to do while on our trip.
Cons: We would have loved to have had a coffeemaker in the room. When we travel we enjoy waking up and making our own coffee right away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, had dinner in the Courtyard which was magical. Had a slight issue with our room which was dealt with in a quick and efficient manner. The staff are extremely helpful- not often you say that.
Cons: Nothing.
7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly and helpful owner and staff. They will to find restaurant for guest for lunch. Very kind of owner, they send and fetch us, WITHOUT ANY CHARGES, without paying. Good place to stay and have good garden. We will come back in this hotel and recommended to Asia people to stay there.
Cons: The place is a bit far and in middle of nowhere, but the owner is very very helpful, friendly and kind. No various food for asia people, all food are same,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The castle is a charming boutique hotel of great elegance and antiquity. The beauty of its location and its panoramic vistas are breathtaking. The owner and his staff have achieved the epitome of hospitality. A short stay and evening meal will remain any visitor as a wonderful memory for many years.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were amazing, really big. The bathroom has a jacuzzi, so it’s very comfortable. The property has a really good pool, a little far from the main building, but with an amazing view. But the best part was the restaurant. The most amazing food I’ve ever eaten. They have a menu full of dishes with truffles, so you can imagine how amazing the taste was.
Cons: The pool is a little far form the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A spectacular castle to spend a night or two. So much history it was amazing. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to make our stay special. The rooms were beautiful and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. Was a highlight of our time in Italy.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are exceptional in every way. Friendly helpful and always available. We ate dinner here both nights. Very good food and a nice atmosphere as well as excellent service. The location is wonderful and the experience of staying in a castle is authentic.
Cons: Not a dislike but one thing really missing here is a bar or lounge to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink when it's too cool outside. There is one room but just with wooden table and chairs so not so comfortable or atmospheric.

Pros: The location, the room, the amenities, actually everything
Cons: The place is amazing, once a monastery and today an impressive hotel, with all the required services and more...!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Massive comfortable beds, huge property full of interesting corners, great sun area. Staff pleasant and helpful. Surrounding area is stunning. An excellent base to see Umbria.
Cons: Lighting was a bit dim and we did have great difficulty in obtaining a device to charge our phones. The staff did everything possible, but even then it was quite limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We love how peaceful and quiet the hotel is. The rooms are cool although a little dark. We love the food there which is very high quality.
Cons: When we booked for dinner we weren't asked if we wanted to eat outside and so when we went to dinner and wanted to eat outside it seemed to be a bit of an issue for them. We did eventually get an outside table but we felt a bit annoyed about being kept waiting while they phoned reception to discuss it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A tasteful conversion of historic buildings into a luxury hotel. Room well appointed and comfortable. Service in the restaurant was friendly and efficient.
Cons: The Ai Cappuccini is primarily geared for the conference trade and certainly when we were there the result of several conference / business groups was rowdy drunks in the corridors late into the night. Luckily were had a room at the very end of our corridor we were not imune. Regretably, conference trade, which is good income, doesnt always match with expectations of the star rating.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good location close to the lovely old town of Gubbio. Comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was just the most glorious hotel. I wish I could have stayed longer
Cons: N/A!

Pros: Beautiful lobby
Cons: Noise! You hear every sound in neighboring room... every ... even murmuring. Change the doors at least!!!!!! It’s a huge problem of the hotel!!!! We couldn’t sleep... kids crying, dogs , laughing... nightmare! Breakfast is not Italian at all by quality of food. Coffe is ugly. Main restaurant is closed 14:30-20:00!!! No opportunity to eat in the hotel. Never again( can’t recommend it unfortunately

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent as was the breakfast.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location in the historic center, quiet and safe, friendly staff, delicious breakfast.
Cons: Not really a dislike but a suggestion: It would be nice if there is always at least 2 staffers during breakfast. It gets to be very busy for just 1 person to manage all the guests.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: fantastic location inside the walls of Gubbio.
Cons: all great
7.1 Good
Pros: Central location in the historic district close to sights with public parking nearby. Reasonably priced with very ample breakfast included. Elevator.
Cons: Because the hotel is in the historic district it is necessary to park in a public lot; I was aware of this so I emailed the hotel the day before to advise that we would be arriving at noon to drop off luggage before parking and inquired if that would be ok. We were told yes. We arrived at noon on the dot; the hotel was locked with a note on the door to call a number that rang busy constantly and the other number on my booking confirmation did not work either. We left, found the public parking, parked the car, went to lunch, kept trying the numbers, no response. At 1:45 we returned. There was another guest, an Italian, also trying to call; we both finally left. At 2:30 we returned, the door was open and there was someone at reception who said there had been an electrical problem and that the phones did not work...if that was the case why not have a person there to deal with clients in person? We did not feel the reception staff was at all accomodating- it was as if we were a nuisance, a bother. Not at all apologetic about inconveniencing us. I had requested a room with a bath tub when booking and received a confirmation but upon check in only a shower was available. The room was ok, the bedroom was small, not really a superior double in furnishings/decor although it did have a small entry room with sofa bed which we did not need. On the positive side the room was neat and clean and had a view of the church.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: grat location, nice breakfast, nice room and great view
Cons: no english speaker at front desk,no parking at the hotel contrary to what was stated in booking as part of the facilities

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, very friendly staff, nice rooms
9.6 Excellent
Pros: In a wonderful part of the town with little patio areas to relax in and all the main sights are right by the hotel. A great historic building which as been skilfully made into a hotel on many floors with view not to missed from the upper little garden,
Cons: Only draw back is getting a car to hotel, it is in a restricted area and parking some 500M away. Hotel will help but would be nice to be able to drop off and go to parking .
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location opposite main piazza. What an interesting building! Hidden terraces, gardens and a secret tunnel. Great views across the old town and valley below. Lots of medieval charm. You can have breakfast outside in the piazza which is great. The shower was larger than standard.
Cons: Little bit tricky to get to for first time visitors. Breakfast offering not as good as other hotels we stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: place to be
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is quirky in layout with delightful surprises (such as beautiful restful gardens at different levels) in an ancient palace annex and built up a steep hill. The staff ensure there is no problem with baggage up the first stairs to the lifts. The location is in the historic centre, accessible by car, with the parking lot a few hundred metres away after dropping off luggage (which the staff ensures is in your room when you return). The view is magnificent – over the ancient city of Gubbio and the whole valley. Breakfast is fantastic and a delightful light meals with local produce (prosciutto, cheeses, fruits and vegetables) are served at any time inside, or outside in the old square opposite. Wonderful recommendations for nearby restaurants are given (the Lupo is a standout). A great base to explore the fascinating town, its history and current local creative jewelers, ceramicists and artists.
Cons: There were no negatives!

Pros: Warm welcome, beautiful air conditioned room, centrally located, free parking and the best restaurant Boscone Garden behind the hotel overlooking the valley with extraordinary food. Also across the street is a fabulous lunch place run by father who hunts and gathers TRUFFLES and his daughter serves the beautiful meals-- it is called Locanda del Tartufo. Highly recommended.
Cons: All went according to plan
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location is ideal, middle of the main attractions. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Had a storage room for my bicycle. Breakfast is a good buffet and the room quiet. Parked at the funivia lot for no charge on lower levels. Building is impressive and stately. Associated restaurant was good and gave a discount to guests.
Cons: Room and bathroom were small, though the rooms maybe vary significantly. Bed was firmer than I prefer.
8.8 Excellent

Cons: Room was a bit small and with no view.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location is great right in the upper city center of Gubbio.
Cons: The room was in badly need of renewal. Everything just gave a feeling of 'old', the bathtub had scrapes, no window in the bathroom and the aspirator was missing. After all not a 4 stars experience. Breakfast was just average.
Faro Rosso - Gubbio - Bedroom

6.3 Good
Pros: Location was great, the on-site restaurant was amazing with all products locally sourced and staff was really friendly.
Cons: Facilities need serious updating. The staff was difficult to get hold of as always been called away and I felt like I was left waiting around for them or needing to go in search of. The swimming pool was open for public use and not just for the guests. And it was mandatory to wear a swimming cap (not a fan!)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location. Amazing views! Great breakfast...
Cons: N/A
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place with excellent view.
4.2 Okay
Pros: We were here some years ago and we loved it! Now this place are in a decay and Mr Giuseppe and his wife doesn' seem to care any more!?
Cons: Breakfast was not at all as it used to be! Frankly it would have been better if they stopped serving it! We payed 110 Euro/night and for that price one deserves a much better breakfast!!
4.7 Okay
Pros: Clean rooms, panoramic view, internet in the rooms
Cons: Faro Rosso isn't actually a hotel. It's a well-known rural domain, especially for the locals who drive in en out all the time. The photo's you see are not realistic. For example the swimming pool isn't a hotelpool, but a club where all the locals (especially youngsters - schoolkids) visit the public pool (entrance 5 euro) jump in the water all the time with a lot of noise. Forget the tranquility of the nature... . At the reception they don't know nothing about hiking and cycling, although they mention this in their brochure. As hotelguests we had dinner in the restaurant, but had to pay 6 euro for the "bread & coperto" ! As a external visitor, OK, but as hotelguests ?? Faro Rosso is a complex where hotelguests are not priority to the staff
6.7 Good
Pros: quiet location beautiful views over Gubbio plenty of scope for walking in countryside and able to visit places of interest by car on relatively quiet roads
Cons: was not a problem for us but may have been for families no mention when booking that swimming pool was being renovated so was closed ? when will reopen
6.3 Good
Pros: Wonderful location, good food.
Cons: Accommodation area entrance and stairwell a bit bleak. Bedroom smelt strongly of bleach.

Pros: The location was excellent but remote. Essential to have a car. Food was outstanding.
Cons: The staff were not very experienced. For instance breakfast cerial was provided, but provision of bowls and even milk was forgotten every day. The bar was well stocked, but staff were scarce and had to be hunted out to get a drink. Most spoke very little English and so communication was a challenge. Especially when ordering a meal, even though English language menus were available. I think some adjustment in these matters would make it an outstanding hotel.

7.1 Good
Pros: Beds comfy, pillows comfy, car parking fine! Staff were nice and friendly!
Cons: Overall the hotel inside is very tired, shower door, curtains, and wardrobe door all fell off hinges, adapters dont fit,if you plug in,they are too close to light switches,no info or electric kettle in room as stated! Saying all this,it did not make any difference to our stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was charming. Excellent location. Wonderful staff.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was great.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and the breakfast was delicious. The hotel is comfortable and quiet. It is a perfect place to stay at if you want to explore Gubbio and other settlements nearby, for examle Peruggia, Assisi, Spoleto etc... The hotel has a separated parking place wich is big and safe enough.
Cons: The wifi signal was very weak, in most of the time unreachable in our room. On the corridor and in the hall it was fine.
2.9 Mediocre
Cons: Warm water not working Shower not properly clean Not renewed since many years, still some facilities very old (i.e. radio incorporated in the wall) Air conditioning not cooling Elevator not working Not a 4 star rating hotel at all

Pros: Wide range of breakfast options and excelent coffee. Good value for money.
Cons: Atmosphere and facelities of 90s. The hotel needs some reconstruction. Longer walking distance to the city center.
