Tokachidake Onsen Kamihoroso - Kamifurano - Building
1
8.4 Excellent (393 reviews)
C$ 307+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Kamihoroso in Kamifurano, you'll be steps from Blue Pond (Aoiike) and a 3-minute drive from Fukiage Onsen. Featured amenities include luggage storage, a safe deposit box at the front desk, and a water dispenser. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great baths (1 indoor & 1 outdoor) with a snowy forest view. No private showers, so you'll need to use the public baths. Amazing mountain views. Very serene. Popular with back-country skiing caravan-campers. Traditional Japanese rooms and bedding. Coin laundry and dry room for ski gear is available in the basement. Isolation in the mountains means transport is a bit tricky. There's a bus that runs 3 times daily to Kamifurano town centre/JR station. Don't miss it - the bus is very punctual! The trip costs ¥500 each way (or you can get a voucher from the hotel front desk that gets you the trip for free). Breakfast: - Open 07:00-09:00 - Buffet hot and continental options Dinner: - Open 18:00-20:00 - Options - ¥1500 buffet, or à la carte (I recommend the BBQ) General advice - please be polite and friendly! The staff are lovely. Shoes off in the lobby. No food or drinks in the baths - and please keep conversation volume down, so others can also enjoy the tranquil baths.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and very comfortable. The food was delicious.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a little outdated, but it has a cozy vibe, and the futons were comfortable. We paid for dinner at the location and the food was pretty good and fairly priced; breakfast was also good. The onsen at the hotel are excellent, especially the rotenburo! This hotel also offers easy access to Fukiage Onsen, a quick 5 minute drive away, which is by far the nicest outdoor onsen I've ever visited. There were many skiers staying here during our visit, and while we did not ski, the location is definitely very good if skiing is what you're after!
Cons: Not a negative, but a warning: definitely make sure you have snow tires and 4WD at a minimum if trying to access this location by car in the wintertime; the last part of the road up to the hotel has a pretty steep switchback and could be tough for people without snow/ice driving experience. Snow chains are also recommended, but we managed without them.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Felt like the hotel stuff though about every little detail. From the coffee machine and beans in the room to the ice pop outside the onsen. The private onsen was the reason we went there, and it was great.
Cons: The meals were very expensive and there is no food options near the hotel (only 35 minutes drive)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Deep powder snow that kids love. Snowflakes falling into hot chocolate, anyone?
Cons: We were there when it first opened and now the family onsen rooms look a bit tired. The main baths are still awesome.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is 10 mins walk from cablecar otherwise it’s an hours drive to the nearest towns. We hiked mount Asahidake (8hrs circular trail) which was amazing and really enjoyed the Onsen at the hotel afterwards
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location , onzen, room, bf, dinner, environment, everything, they upgrade us from twin room with extra bed to triple room, staff are very nice.
Cons: No extra pillow in room, only one for each person, may be because we sray on weekend. Internet a bit intermittently, staff speak little english but understanding.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole place is so relaxing and lovely! Onsen areas are amazing, the food is excellent, and location next to Mt Asahi ropeway was perfect for hiking. Bed was super comfy. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: We didn’t have dinner first evening as when we arrived at 6pm it was too late to book it. Luckily we had some crisps and other snacks left after our long journey there so had no problem to wait until the late night ramen was served (this was at 10.30pm and it’s free for everyone). There are no shops or restaurants around - the location is very quiet (which we loved!).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, and great place to rest after hike to Asahidake volcano. We had a nice room with tea and everything. You can also go to Onsen and our biggest surprise was the free midnight ramen. After getting all soaked wet and cold on the top of the volcano this was real pleasure since we couldn't find any place to eat on our way here. The breakfast was also really rich and amazing. The ropeway to Asahidake trailhead is literally like 10 minutes of walking from the hotel.
Cons: We had to wait like 20 minutes for a breakfast because the hotel restaurant was full. It wasn't very serious problem for us, but in case there is a lot of guests it is something you should be aware of.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room with a great view towards Mt. Asahidake, tasty food and tasty tap water. Excellent onsen-facilities. The bus stop is very close to the hotel.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: location excellent, dinner and breakfast included excellent, common area with fire great for meeting people I have been returning every winter for the last 11 years ,
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent access to Ropetow. Great Onsen. Great buffet.
Cons: Not all Westerners need a crumbed piece of meat each night as a special treat. Maybe some help selecting a Japanese meal would be preferable. Also some expresso coffee would be an excellent addition. Say a lobby cafe?
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We were extremely impressed by the incredible variety of high quality food at the buffet for both breakfast and dinner. The service in the restaurant was impeccable with assistance with using the Japanese cooker on the table to prepare a seafood soup of your own choosing. The building had a lovely old fashioned but stately feel in it's architecture and furnishings. The location next to both the Tourist Centre and ropeway was great.
Cons: The mattresses in the Western room were much too hard for me. I requested an extra quilt to place underneath but was offered only a pile of towels that didn't help. Restless uncomfortable nights' sleep took the shine off an otherwise perfect location in beautiful snow.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Closest Accomadation to the ropeway, great Onsen, lots of variety in the buffet meals.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Easy walking distance to the Ropeway. Food excellent and staff very attentive and polite.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value for money, very oliging staff, close to Mt Asahidake
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great food, and nice Hotel. No outdoor onsen but possible to get access to an other bigger onsen in the area for free if you ask for it in the reception.
Cons: As at many other Japanese hotels is the English knowledge level very low. The distance to the ropeway, possible to walk but it take 15 min !!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The interior layout and decor are good and very relaxing. I enjoyed the common and music Hall.....really feel like home . The location is good near to most of the interesting places around here. Not so crowded as in Bear Monte. ..
Cons: It could be hot in the summer in the morning and afternoon .. night time it will get cooler and can sleep comfortably ..with a thin blanket. However, as the window was opened, the noise ( generator or fans) was very loud and irritating.. so if you are a light sleeper ..bring along your ear plug.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best hotel I stayed at in 7 weeks in Japan. My room was large and comfortable with a snowy view. There are two comfortable and well presented lounges. Dinner was 6 courses and delicious. Breakfast was very generous. Service impeccable. And there's a lovely indoors hot spring onsen. Would love to return.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location with very friendly staff. Delicious food for breakfast and dinner.
6.3 Good
Pros: The room was spacious but the furniture style a bit boring, not unusual for this size of onsen place. The bathroom was nice as promised. The maids serving the dinner were very friendly.
Cons: The bad...the cuisine was boring similar to the room furniture. The sheer number of courses couldn’t hide, that the food was substandard compared to other Japanese hotels. On top of that i got nearly the same for breakfast and dinner twice. So when i saw that coming the second time you can understand my disappointment, as i hoped for an improvement. Completely unacceptable was the insolent behavior of the receptionist. When i came for breakfast at 8:03am she scolded me in front of the other guests, with no good morning and a fiendish look. On top of that, the next morning a Japanese couple came around 8:10am and she was sweet as honey to them. I know Japanese hospitality is so much better. That’s more what I would expect in my own country.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Hot springs are wonderful. There are different kinds of hot springs. The outdoor one has the most flavour!!! Delicious and exquisite meal!!!
Cons: The warm air machine in the room works a little loud
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here for a night and had the best time. We caught the bus from Asahikawa station and it dropped us right in front of the driveway. The staff was the best (they patiently explained to us the onsen situation and the dining hours, they drove us to the ski resort in the van, and even dropped us at a nearby hotel). The onsens are top notch. There is one very old one with amazing boulders and ferns and moss growing on them. It was visited by the emperor in the 70s, I believe. The tubs are made with big wooden beams and there are some that are very hot and some that are medium. There’s another more recently-built onsen with a similar overall vibe, just newer. There’s an outdoor bath in this one. Both were amazing. The highlight of the stay is the dinner. After soaking in the onsen, we wore our yukatas to the dining hall where we are a perfectly orchestrated set course. Highlights included scallop egg custards, abalone wrapped in seaweed and cooked in a salt block, spring water jelly with black honey, grain rice with pumpkin, and coffee pudding, along with staples like shabushabu and sashimi. We enjoyed everything and left very full. The rooms are comfortable and clean and plenty warm. One of the most comfortable futons I’ve slept on. Everything about our stay was incredible and we will be going back. Special thanks to both of the front desk people who helped us with a lift to a nearby hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A very Japanese experience in a hotel with a famous hot spring. The location was great: at the foot of Asahi Take which is a splendid volcanic mountain which we went up and did a magnificent circuit through volcanic landscape and steaming fumerolles. Food (entirely Japanese) was absolutely gourmet - about 8 tiny delicate well-presented courses. There were set menus (so no choice) and after three days they repeat. Breakfast was delicious and had lots of choice. The onsen was very special with outside and inside parts. Most guests wore yukuta (kimonos provided by the hotel) to meals and round the hotel. We had a Japanese speaker with us and while it would have been perfectly possible without, it was nice to be able to translate what we were eating. We had western style bedrooms.
Cons: The coffee
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were very comfortable and there was a massage chair in our room!
Cons: Nothing really!

Pros: The host is very welcoming and helpful, he speaks enough English for communication, which is rare in Japan. The place has a magnificent view especially if the weather is good.

Pros: Stayed in Comfortable, spacious and clean Japanese style room. nice view of the mountains from the room. Enjoyed the clean and spacious onsen. Onsen was not crowded in early evening (maybe dinner time?) and early morning. Close to huge supermarket and Nepalese restaurant
Cons: A little far from town (driving distance) but shopping and Nepalese restaurant just outside
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was amazing with 8 different pools to enjoy. The extra large twin room was the size of an American hotel room; quite a shock after a week at the Dormy Inn where the rooms were Japanese sized.
Cons: I’m sure the Japanese guests thought the breakfast was awesome. Being North American, we had a little trouble getting down all the varieties of raw fish at breakfast. Fortunately, there was plenty of coffee to help wash it down, but we felt guilty for all the dishes we didn’t touch. It is better when there is a buffet breakfast so that you can choose not to take some of the raw fish items and not waste food. At the Dormy Inn we looked forward to breakfast every morning because there was a mix of Japanese and Western food. We rather dreaded the breakfast at Furano La Terre.
