Pros: A complete healthy breakfast served each morning with variety of breads, muffin, cheese, meats, yogurt, juice, fruit and coffee or tea.
Cons: Everything was excellent
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very convenient for visiting Leiden, 4 minutes walk to bus station Lijsterstraat, 12 minutes to the Central train station (CS). Friendly, uncomplicated, comfortable, quiet, good bed, shower fine (no curtain, so you have to do some mopping up afterwards), excellent breakfast. Free parking in the driveway (if you're the first one to arrive).
Cons: Just a minor point, no shower curtain.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had the room on the second floor, which meant we had the floor for us. The room was large with a small sitting area and table and chairs for breakfast, very self contained. We left the car parked on the drive and walked into Leiden, only 1km away.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place to stay, very clean and comfortable. Recommended.
10.0 Excellent

Walk through the Hortus Botanicus, the oldest botanical garden of the Netherlands located next to Leiden University. In the morning you can enjoy a rich breakfast buffet, a good start to the day. The hotel is easily accessible by car and public transport.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, well situated 3 star hotel, tea/cofee set in the room
5.0 Okay
Pros: Friendly staff and location is just next to the Leiden central Station and walking distance to the center.
Cons: The hotel was not value for money. Paid £245 pound for 3 nights and just got a standard room, very small and not any added services (such as a safe to place my valuables). Additionally had to pay an extra €15 euros as city tax. Overall very disappointed with the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: excellent location, a little basic but clean - would stay here again
7.5 Good
Pros: Good pricing. Cleanliness of bathroom and room. Location to public transport and shops. Would likely use again if pricing is competitive.
Cons: Lack of room safe, small fridge and coffee/tea making.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff courtsey
Cons: The cleaning process and drainage system. The washbasin keeps getting chocked every time you use it. The housekeeping staff could not get it corrected even after pointing it out.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent position, there is a parking lot near the hotel, and the city centre is really closeby. Staff is super kind, rooms are Ibis level, breakfast start at 6:30 but you can have a reduced version starting at 4:30 that was really appreciated since I left very early.
Cons: nothing wrong.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location 11/10
Cons: Additional taxes and surcharges over booking price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location opposite station. Friendly staff. Good sized room. Nice bar.

Van der Valk Hotel Leiden - Leiden - Building
3
8.2 Excellent (1,957 reviews)
C$ 219+
Overview Reviews
Located in Leiden, Van der Valk Hotel Leiden is on the waterfront, within a 5-minute drive of Naturalis Biodiversity Center and Leiden Bio Science Park. Featured amenities include a 24-hour business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
5.4 Okay
Cons: The room facilities for a junior suite were poor..no drinking glasses, no minibar, fruit or even water, so why charge a 150% deposit on check in? My biggest issue with any van der Valk hotel is that the organisation supports canned hunting. The flagship hotels are all decorated with trophies from hunting trips... disgusting!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice place close to a canal but far away from everything
Cons: My room was suterrain.,. I did not saw it in the reservation! Probably was there, but be careful... and also the small window looked at the garage so I could see the lower part of a car!
5.8 Okay
Pros: The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have a balcony to sit out on.
Cons: The breakfast was far to overpriced for what was offered and the products were not the best. The fruit had a strange aftertaste. There were minor issues in the room in which we stayed, holes in the curtain. My partner thought it would have been nicer to have more than one coffee for each person provided in the room. My partner is quite tall and the shower was not so suitable for him for me it was not an issue as I am not so tall. It is quite a far walk from the station for people who do not have a car on the days where the shuttle does not run and also there were no provisions of buses or travel advice on the website ( that I could see).
7.5 Good
Pros: Tasty breakfast. Cozy and calm room.
Cons: Away from the downtown. The room faced the road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and parking great, very clean large rooms.
Cons: All good.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Room was bigger than most rooms we have stayed in.
Cons: Room given to us had staff clothes in the cupboard. Rooms were in basement. Location was just very inconvenient. Good for those who dont want to move around much. Their shuttle services were far and few.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: great location, comfortable, modern, clean.
Cons: Hotel charged me an extra night because I used the hotel phone to call a friend 30 minutes away in Den Haag (The Hague). Be careful! DON'T under ANY circumstances use the room phone.
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice, neat and spacious room with a wonderful bed, blackout curtains, sitting area and even a table/desk. It was around 30 degrees so it was very nice to have a fridge and a balcony. The bathroom with bathtub was also very spacious and clean. We really liked the fact the hotel is very centrally located and will probably revisit in future.
Cons: The shower cabin was very narrow and leaked water, however, the latter didn't bother us that much. Our visit was work-related and therefore necessary, but the price we paid was insanely high for just a comfort room (due to high season). In my opinion, it was way out of proportion.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: WEVE BEEN 5 TIMES NOW! SO YES WE LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT COMING STAFF ARE GREAT, VERY COMFORTABLE AND THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS
Cons: We have to say that we cant think of anything we don’t like sorry
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Well placed hotel if travelling by car with plenty parking and choose of bistro or restaurant. Excellent choice at breakfast.
Cons: Access from car park to rooms could be made easier to avoid a long trek round. There were doors but some emergency access only and som just locked. The tea and coffee in the room was a bit mean, only enough for one drink and even when asking for extra at reception we only got one more sachet.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The beautiful & large dinner terrace along the waterway The extra helpful intern named Noa, the waiter named Glenn The availability of the bicycles The excellent connection by bus to & from The Hague The smoked salmon offered on the Saturday breakfast buffet The smiles of Irene who fried our eggs each morning
Cons: The skimpiness with towels - Got just one bath & one hand towel per day No washcloths available The bar Brasserie was closed between 4:30- 8 or 9 pm / My husband couldn’t get a beer there while waiting for me to come downstairs The fruit salad on the breakfast buffet should have looked fresh each day The dreadfully outdated velvet pullows in electric aqua & seafoam blue on the bed The Polish maid could not read the note we left; she just took the tip
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We liked dining on the terrace watching the boats go by on the canal. Staff and service was excellent.
Cons: No major concerns
City Hotel Rembrandt - Leiden - Building

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent with all my wishes met. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable.
Cons: The somewhat cumbersome way lighting was constructed was off putting. A bath towel instead of (or in addition to) the small hand towel provided would have been good.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant location, very clean room with lovely decor. One of the staff was lovely and very helpful!
Cons: Old built-in hairdryer which wasn’t working at the bathroom of the room which was otherwise very fresh and newly refurbished. No instructions/key for using the safe in the room - although we felt very comfortable and secure leaving our belongings in the room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very kind and helpful. Very clean room and super comfortable bed. Breakfast is ok. Loved the place. Thank you!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was so yummie!
5.0 Okay
Pros: friendly
Cons: It would be fine in winter but in summer the room was stuffy and much too hot. The a/c didn't work although there was a fan. There was a very thick winter duvet on the bed so I asked for it to be changed to something suitable for summer but the hotel would not do this. After 2 nights I gave up trying to sleep there and made alternative arrangements for my 3rd day in Leiden.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff on the reception was very nice - they helped us with everything we needed. Very kind and polite.
Cons: Two times in six days of our stay the house keeper left the door of our room completely open after cleaning the room. We could easily get our belongings missing by the time we weren’t in our hotel room (which was most of the day). Disappointing experience.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Closely to Station, walking for 5-7 minutes
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel was very charming and the location perferct.
Cons: The room was quite small, There was no place for clothes or goods - only a small rail to hang clothes.
7.5 Good
Pros: We thought hotel was bigger. For a small 3 star hotel it should have been cheaper
Cons: Lighting in room was not good. Switches difficult to turn on and off and plug sockets by bedsise mot working.

Overview Reviews
City Hotel Nieuw Minerva is centrally located in Leiden, a 4-minute walk from Leidse Schouwburg - Stadsgehoorzaal and 6 minutes by foot from Pieterskerk. Featured amenities include a computer station, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and a 24-hour front desk. Event facilities at this hotel consist of conference space and a meeting room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and the room was kind of retro chic with a Jagermeister theme. Also a reasonable size for that location in a city in the Netherlands.
7.5 Good
Pros: Interior design looked inviting and warm. The location is excellent.
Cons: Our check-in was delayed by 2 hours for which we didn't get compensated for. Also, our room was not cleaned properly as you could see marks from some sort of liquid on the tables...
8.8 Excellent
Cons: we arrived late evening after a very hot day. The room temperature was above 30 degrees while wasn't cooler in the room. Finally we received a little fan from the staff and we survived the night. As the outside temp decreased (next day) the room temp also normalized and we were able to enjoy. So... avoid at hot days, because can't cool down.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is good with great views from window looking down the canal. The receptionists are nice and helpful.
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel is located in an old building in the centre of Leiden, 10 minutes far from the central station on foot. The staff is very nice, the breakfast good, but with limited variety.
Cons: On the one hand the old buinding is quite charming, but on the other hand it implies some lack of comfort.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location. I also liked the fact that this is NOT a hotel-chain place. every room is different, antique furniture. Interesting.
Cons: The building is old, so various issues come up (like there was no hot water for a short while).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: very nice hotel on a perfect location, in the middle of the centre with many restaurants and pubs on walking distance. very friendly and helpfull staff.
Cons: Only comment I have was on information while booking via booking.com. Parking available but only on a distance with (very good) shuttle service and not for free. Not clear if breakfast was included and what additional price for breakfast was.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect, near the center town.
Cons: No air conditioner. kinda hot during summer.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was large and had a small seating area. Overall the room was well appointed.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Central location, by the canal, close to bars and restaurants - characterful decoration in early 20th Century style. Helpfull staff and secure bike storage
Cons: There wasn't really anything NOT to like..
8.3 Excellent
Pros: continental breakfast was good but we prefer English which was not available.
Cons: we didn't like that we were advised by booking.com that city taxes were included but they were not ! also we had a tiny room for the first night but the hotel kindly transferred us to a bigger room for the second and third nights. apparently the preferential rate by booking.com only applied to 2 nights out of the 3 booked which was why we had a tiny room at first.
Hotel De Doelen - Leiden - Building

8.1 Excellent (725 reviews)
C$ 126+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel De Doelen in Leiden, you'll be within a 10-minute walk of Leiden University and SieboldHuis. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a safe deposit box at the front desk.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location was perfect for Leiden city centre and the venue for the conference we were attending. The rooms are OK, not luxurious but clean and suitable.
Cons: The bed mattresses are too soft, so much so I left with back pain. The curtains are too light, with no option to make the room darker.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff are fantastic very friendly and helpful
Cons: Lack of air conditioner
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location and friendly staff.
Cons: Small room (which was ok), but windows opened up to an internal courtyard, which while supposed to be quiet, had people talking loudly to 3 or 4am in the morning for 2 nights in a row. As the room had no air conditioning, it was hard to get a good rest.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful building And very frendly And helpful staff.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location close to Train Station, pubs and restaurants. Location is really good - lots of young people a really good vibe for the area.
Cons: Bed was a bit small but still reasonably comfortable.
7.9 Good
Pros: Excellent location, quiet area of town and cute place. Staff was friendly.
Cons: It is an older building meaning it is pretty, but also means you can hear people walking above you (floor creaking) and water running from anyone showering or flushing in nearby rooms. If you are a light sleeper, should bring earplugs to help with that.
7.9 Good
Pros: I like the traditional building with its low ceilings, wooden beams, low ceiling and creaky floor too. Location is superb - a few doors away from the museums and Leiden University.
Cons: A hairdryer is not available in the room but you can get one upon request
10.0 Excellent
Pros: perfect
Cons: nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: People were great and really helpful would stay again
Cons: Needs air conditioning
8.8 Excellent
Pros: an old and nice building with good sight. i really liked dining room. location was perfect for me. wireless does not require password which is easy to use. people were so kind, friendly and eager to help. furnitures in the room and bathroom was new and clean.
Cons: I could easily hear someone is snooring in the next room. some guests made sudden high pitch noises or laughs in the hall or in front of my door at the middle of the night. you cannot call reception because there is no phone in the room. since the reception is not in the hotel after midnight so i did not feel secure sometimes but i thougth it is quite safe in leiden so they are cool about it but as a foreigner, i was not :) the garden was neglected, i was expecting the garden in the pictures and disappointed. i could give higher points for all these if the price were lower but the hotel is not cost effective.
Best Western City Hotel Leiden - Leiden - Building
7
7.8 Good (1,959 reviews)
C$ 150+
Overview Reviews
The Best Western City Hotel Leiden is located in Leiden's city of discovery, and lies in the heart of this historical city, within walking distance of many shopping streets and museums, including Museum de Lakenhal, where masterpieces by Rembrandt, Jan Steen and Lucas van Leyden can be admired. The Best Western City Hotel Leiden combines traditional and contemporary influences and offers you a pleasant stay. The hotel is located in three monumental historic buildings that were fully renovated. Our 3 Star hotel offers 39 rooms, which are spread over four floors. Each hotel room is decorated in a different style. The rooms are comfortable and feature modern furnishings, a double or twin bed, a safe, telephone, television and radio, as well as a bathroom with shower and toilet. Our Junior Suites are spacious and have a cozy sitting area. Leiden has a rich history and is known for its beautiful canals, historic buildings and culture. The city is also called the City of Knowledge, as it is famous for its science and research. The University of Leiden is the oldest university in Holland, it was founded in 1575. Leiden is also called the 'City of Discovery'. It is the place where Rembrandt was born and learned to paint, where Doctor Boerhaave taught, and where the first Dutch tulips were brought into blossom, about four hundred years ago. Leiden is a wonderful city to explore for leisure travelers, but business guests are also very welcome at our hotel. It has very convenient conference facilities, such as a multifunctional conference room with all amenities. Our staff will be happy to answer all your questions regarding meetings and conferences.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s close to the canal and the shopping area. Nathalie at the front office was very helpful, she printed and scanned docs very important for me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was extremely comfortable. Very friendly staff. Clean rooms and great location. Would recommend this hotel!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Hotel location was excellent as far as we were concerned.
Cons: A pity the bath wasn't working and didn't get fixed during our stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing breakfast!
Cons: Small room The church bells were very loud since the church is right in front and they rang all night
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location, the welcome.
Cons: The clock of the church nearby, during the night.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Leiden is a beautiful city We loved walking around it. The hotel staff were utterly charming and helpful. The breakfast was superb.
Cons: The rooms are in need of refurbishment.
7.9 Good
Pros: Didn't want to have a full breakfast, since there were nice coffee shops nearby and we wanted to get out early on our excursions. Actually there was a free coffee machine in the reception area as well.
Cons: There was a shortage of mirrors in the bathroom (one only too high on the wall to be useful) and the bath was labelled as not functioning and therefore not to be used. The shower was good thankfully.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room upgrade when we arrived what more could you ask for! Breakfast amazing again!
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing at all. It was miserable.
Cons: One of the most horrid stays I have experienced ever. Where do I even start ? The room was a dump. The AC did not work and it was 40 degrees and the hottest stay in a century in the Netherlands. The staff refused to give me a different room despite the fact that the hotel was almost empty. They don't clean the rooms nor change the towels even if you ask to do so every morning. I was in Leiden for work, and I had originally a 5 days stay but I had to cut short and find a new hotel as I was beginning to get sick, literally . My advice- avoid this hotel at all costs
Hotel Mayflower - Leiden - Bedroom

7.6 Good (1,120 reviews)
C$ 130+
6.7 Good
Pros: Location is very good.
Cons: The WiFi quality and signal strength is TERRIBLE!!!! It’s 2019 and the wifi strength should be improved ASAP.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good Value for Money
Cons: Nothing
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: There is nothing positive of note to mention. I wouldnt recommend anyone stay here.
Cons: Broken toilet, mouldy walls, rude and indifferent staff, unreachable line (if you call the front desk you get a taxi service who takes a message and brings it to staff who roundly ignore it), broken refrigerator, unclean smell, unfair room assignment, cleaning staff leaves garbage and supplies all over the stairs making it harder to navigate safely, especially with baggage. I could go on.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Location is good but Leiden is a small town, so it is not that important.
Cons: Cleanness. The nice room on the third floor (with no lift and Dutch stares) was stinking. We asked the staff to do something about it but they could not. The awful smell all day long is a result of very old and dirty carpets and furniture. They should change it all!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Perfectly reasonable place - simple building but great location, large room, and balcony.
Cons: No problems
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Helpful, friendly staff. Big bathroom. Big room. Great location
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Situation and hôtel
7.9 Good
Pros: Location was excellent, 5mins from the train station and very close to the centre. It was also right beside one of the canals which was lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was much more stylish than the pictures led me to belive. We also got a small balcony whihc was perfect for having a morning coffee before checkout!
Cons: I felt the price was a bit high for what we got but compared to the other hotels in the area it seems fairly reasonable. The double bed was actually 2 singles pushed together with separate duvets/sheets etc which wasn't ideal.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location and nice staff
Cons: The heater was broken so the all night was hot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, friendly staff

Cons: I could not watch my tv show
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff.. especially there is a man called Ahmed with a Holland nationality but with origion from sudan, he is more than good and welcome person
Cons: Need to improve breakfast....
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great
Cons: Simple small, cheap ala carte meals for weary travelers that don't need a buffet blow out.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and the room was a decent size
Cons: The room could have been a little cleaner, could do with a bit of repair work and no instructions left for the safe. Was also a small bit far from local amenities
6.7 Good
Pros: Size of bed and location.
Cons: Room constantly smelt of smoking (room 104), as it was both located over the smoking room, and the previous guest had not observed the non smoking policy.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was extremely clean and comfortable and the self-service Buffet Restaurant was first class.
Cons: Our reason for choosing this hotel was because we were attending a concert in Parkvilla - Kunsteducatie, Filmhuis, Theater in Alphen Aan Den Rijn. Although advertised as such this hotel is NOT in Alphen Aan Den Rijn - and because of this we had to pay in excess of €70.00 round trip in taxi fares. Also, this hotel is based within an industrial area and there are no buses and the nearest train station (Boskoop) is a 20 minute walk away. The trains stop running pretty early in the evening. Once back at the hotel and had gone to bed we were woken-up at 1am by what can only be described as 'Club-style Dance Music' and a 'Screaming DJ' which went on through the night and was still booming out at a ridiculous volume well past 10am which was when we set off walking to catch the train to Amsterdam. This music had been SO loud that when we had arrived at Boskoop station we could STILL hear it - this gives you some indication of what it would have been like trying to sleep in a room literally just over the road from it. We were not informed by anybody who worked at the hotel that there was likely to be some loud music later that evening so we don't know if they had prior knowledge? Summary: Clean and comfortable - excellent Buffet Restaurant for dinner but NOT SO GREAT for breakfast - VERY POOR LOCALITY - and as we were told by our taxi driver THIS HOTEL IS NOT IN ALPHEN AAN DEN RIJN.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing snd friendly staff. Clean and comfy rooms.
Cons: -
7.1 Good
Cons: confort of bed , minimalist breakfast
7.9 Good
Pros: Spacious room with nice modern decor, free parking
Cons: Expensive restaurant

7.5 Good
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice, variety of food to choose was good, room was quiet. The hotel is in the walking distance to the city center, can enjoy local atmosphere.
Cons: Room was rather dark, so it was a bit difficult to look for my staff in the luggage. Room service had only coffee, so I brought my own tea because I don’t drink coffee. I would appreciate hot water for tea in the room. Leiden is expensive in comparison with Tokyo.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Breakfast OK Location OK Quit Beds were comfortable
Cons: No AIr Condition Dated Interior Tiny Bathrooms Windows don't open properly Staff promises to email receipt....haven't got yet

Pros: For me the location was perfect with family less than a mile away.

7.5 Good
Pros: Surprised at spaciousness of room, good value for money. Bathroom cleaner than many hotels I’ve stayed at for this price.
Cons: Shower curtains were a bit worn and dated. Full length mirror could have done with being fixed completely to the wall. I spent a lot of time stopping my 15 months old from trying to pull it from the one nail it was hung by.

Pros: Children's play area, swimming pool
Cons: The requested cot bed was heavily stained on the sides. The rooms have no outside windows. The staff need training in customer service.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely swimming pool which the kids really enjoyed. Marvellous buffet breakfast. Clean and comfortable rooms in a nice and spacious hotel where kids felt very welcomed.
Cons: Shame parking is charged as an extra as they have a huge car park so space isn’t an issue. Also free bike rental would have been a nice touch.

Cons: No windows that can be opened
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast Selection was great. Pool. Hours to Check In-Out. Staff. Great Value. Kid Friendly. Close to Keukenhof Tulip Gardens. Pet Friendly. Convenient. Parking for Large American Vehicles. Uncovered Parking with gated access. Close to autobahn access.
Cons: Weekend Breakfast is packed full of people and runs of out the good foods quickly. Kids area needs updating. Redlight to leave the property can be a drag at times. Some areas seemed noisy with the children crying in hallway areas. Hotel is in a prime location and has plenty to offer but is often full - be sure to book in advance.
