Rooms were beautiful and we got some nice tea upon arrival that we appreciated.
This Riad was located in an area that felt extremely unsafe compared to other places we have stayed at in Marrakech. When we arrived by cab on the square close to the Riad were immediately approached by a gang of young men asking us if we wanted to be shown the way. When we said no thanks, one of them started screaming and threatening us. We tried to start walking towards the riad to shake them off but they kept on following us into the small alley where the Riad was located. Outside the Riad, the most crazy acting guy, started to threaten us again by waving with a bottle if we didn't pay him and his friends for "showing the way" so eventually we gave them 100 MAD to just get out of the situation. We later got to hear that this gang lives in the neighborhood so we want to warn other visitors about this. There was no toilet paper in any of the rooms and when we asked for it, we only got napkins.
Room was a cave with little lighting in the bathroom, entrance had a sick cat and cat poo when we arrived, no one available to get hot water at night had to make our own, not like the pictures on the internet
The Riad is really amazing! The stuff is very helpful and lovely! The Raid is perfect for familiy trips or group ones. If you book all the rooms at one floor you feel like home!
If you look for a privacy for two maybe it is not the best place to stay because you easily hear what your neighbors do and if anyone of guests have kids, they will run on stairs what sounds like a race of elephants but probably it’s common in all the riads :)
For those who are travelling for the first time to Marrakech, staying at the riad Zar Douar is not the best option. The riad is not well located, it's in an area where you can only see local people and the way to the riad is very confusing and unsafe. Also, during our stay, the riad was empty and one of the nights the only staff member present wanted to let us alone in the riad during night time, it wasnt a comfortable situation.
Good sized room, charming decor. Clean. Also had a heater which is essential if u visit during winter/colder months.
The location is horrible. Very hard to find, it is not marked at all until you reach their door. There is a maze of small streets and overall neighborhood is quite scary.
