10.0 Excellent
Pros: You couldn't ask for a more beautiful island getaway. Stunning location, beautifully presented, lovely staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing . The traditional buildings , the complete privacy each suite is given , the private beach access , the small resort feel. If you’re in Tonga you really really should visit here.
Cons: Nothing . It was amazing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was amazing and the Fale gave a sense of having the island all to ourselves. The outside bathroom was very private. Staff were super friendly and meals were great!
Cons: It’s not a dislike but you need to be comfortable with not locking the Fale and the reality of tropical life with insects etc. The solar power needed to be augmented due to weather and this was minimal but necessary as explained to us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Real paradise! Small resort on the island app. 10 km from the mainland. If you want to relax, stay one week or longer and enjoy local hospitality and realy relaxing atmosphere. Very nice corals in the laggoon, not all reef areas accessible in low tide, but nice snorkelling is possible at any time (just the visibility in the water may be rather limited).
Cons: Everything was perfect. Not about the resort, but may be helpful - if you pay for swimming with whales, the chance to stay longer close to a whale is limited, most of them move (and do not wait for you :)).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We love everything about our stay.. Great hosts.. Excellent customer service.. Employees are super nice and they are very kind.. The weather was a bit windy and lots of rain but we still enjoy our stay...
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Simply and really beautiful. Good restaurant. We unfortunately got flue but there was an incredible nice and helpful doctor who really cared for us. We appreciated the eco-freindly choice.
Cons: The lack of fresh fruit juices at breakfast. The lack of at least one lamp in room helpful for reading at night (low consumption is ok, but just one lamp...)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful stay, amazing staff
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location. The Fale was private. Very clean comfortable. Liked the outdoor shower. Gardens were beautiful. Nice holiday.
Cons: The sea was cold.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet peaceful settings. Beautiful private garden and beach. Comfortable bed and outdoor furniture. Nice bush walks through native forest. Colorful playful birds
9.2 Excellent
Pros: staff. Location. Atmosphere.
Cons: Lack of green veg and salads. Fish was amazing though. Very difficult to eat as a vegetarian.

7.1 Good
Pros: Lovely quiet seaside view with northerly aspect, and only a short walk to town to markets and cafes.
Cons: Unfortunately the quality of food and musty room were not adequate given the room rate. Some of the staff were however friendly...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location , the seaview from the balcony deck whilst having breakfast, the friendly staff, good tasty food at dinner, good wifi, and comfortable rooms, and giving us an extra hour in the room before checking out was a nice gesture.
Cons: The Breakfast, only included tea/coffee and toast, continental should at least include cereal, fruits and juice.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was very clean and great location as not right in the middle of town and looking out to the sea. Yummy dinner in the restaurant. Would recommend this place to friends
Cons: N/a
4.2 Okay
Pros: I was deceived by the booking as it said : 4 stars Hotel. It is not a 4 stars hotel. It is not a hotel at all.A reasonable grading would be : B&B or guest house. The room are not as described. The cheapest rooms are not 20m2 they are no more than 12/13 m2.So if you have suitcases you have no space to walk. The 3 sea view rooms are no more than 20m2..But a little better. One of the blankets had a very big hole.. about 5 cms diameter.WIFI is not always functioning.Breakfast is very poor... coffe or tea or juice.. a few slices of toasted bread with little jam and little butter. The sea is just across the street but you cannot reach it as there are a lot of rocks. There are no beaches in this island. On saturdays everything is closed from 12.00.On sundays everything is closed and it is difficult to find a bar or a restaurant go to a beach you have to take a ferry to a neraby island, where there uis a resort that charges you 60 Paanga. On week days it leaves at 11.00 and comes back at 16.00.On sundays there are a few more times. almost every hour.On the whole.. I repeat. it is not a 4 stars hotel. It is not a hotel at all. It is widely overpriced. Not very far there are better options that are much cheaper and offer also a swimming pool.It is good for backpackers but not for people that travel abd chose 3 to 4 stars hotels.
Cons: Rooms, with the exception of the 3 seaside rooms, are very small and gloomy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: -Clean, spacious and comfortable room -Great location -Very friendly staff. All of them! -Tasty food -Wi-fi worked very well -Replied very fast to all emails

7.1 Good
Pros: The cleaning staff where friendly. Lovely views. Nice fresh breakfast available every morning. Bed was very comfortable.
Cons: Bathroom door filthy on the inside. The place could do with a touch of modernisation, very 80’s style walls etc. Barely any room to move in the room. Only one key available per room which is hard when you’ve two people staying together and may want to leave/arrive at seperate times of the day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly. The hotel was secure and safe 24/7.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Overall the food was excellent. A very busy and popular restaurant even for locals. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The ocean view rooms were worth the little extra and no need to use curtains so... to wake up to the ocean view was a added bonus.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean and good breakfast, very comfy high standard rooms
Cons: Cleaners barges in despite’s No Disturb signs on the door.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beds were comfy & pleased our room cleaned every day with fresh towels each time. Even when the toilet blocked out, the staff cleaned & managed to get it working with no complaints. Really happy with the staff.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Sea front location, not too far from the airport and the town. A very popular property which is also a busy Italian Restaurant. Sightseeing can easily be arranged by taxi from the accommodation. The whole island is not very large.
Cons: Having to hump the heavy suitcases up the side staircase (no lift)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed the location, the cleanliness, the extra effort made by the staff to ensure our stay was pleasant and comfortable.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice view of the ocean at high tide. Very good Italian meal with good portions. Beautiful garlic focaccia. Very well appointed room. Handy to town.
Cons: Air con was a bit noisy
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff very helpful. Room had everything we needed.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful hotel and location. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Buffet breakfast is amazing. My only critique would be to have training done with the waitress’s who are in charge of dinner. They work so hard but truly do not understand the procedure and protocols for waitressing. Guests will sit for up to 30 min and given no attention. But would still recommend the facilities

Pros: Location. Close to fish market and the wharf. Chickens freely wander around in the garden
Cons: Service (check-in, check-out, restaurant) can be slow.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nil
7.1 Good
Pros: I really appreciated Josephine's help at reception; the room is nice and well equipped
Cons: The breakfast is frankly poor, which is even more not uderstandable considering they have a restaurant. Also for this reason, for my experience, I consider it overpriced.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and very near Deep Blue Diving for the whale swimming. Good breakfast.
Cons: The roosters and dogs very noisy but that the Islands generally.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really great hotel, good food and fantastic service.
7.1 Good
Pros: The restaurant staff were amazing and so friendly every day - they were really attentive and very pleasant. The manager of the Hotel was also excellent- very efficient and helpful. The food was mostly very good with 99.9% of the meals we had there being excellent. The location is really good and I walked home from town each day - which was a lovely 20 min walk by the water.
Cons: Unfortunately it seemed to be the owner who was a little defensive or grumpy with people. we noticed this and we were on the receiving end on a couple of occasions. I was also in a room over the kitchen which was noisy at night and for some reason my matress -which I think was new was wrapped in the plastic still... not necessarily the quietest or most comfortable sleeps but overall we still really enjoyed our stay for other reasons.
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely welcoming and did everything they could to make my stay an enjoyable one.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean room great views from the balcony. Lovely food at the restaurant
Cons: The fish market is noisy from early morning but that is the only downfall
7.1 Good
Pros: Enjoyed the breakfast. Good location just opposite the wharf.
Cons: We got woken up by fighting dogs and church bells several times during the night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are very friendly and very helpful, they are very very good. A room is clean, big, very comfortable. Diffanately I will stay in this resort again!
Cons: Resort was very quiet but surrounding other place was playing loud music sometimes.
Royal Sunset Island Resort - Nuku‘alofa - Building
8.4 Excellent (61 reviews)

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. For a surcharge, guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle (available 24 hours) and a ferry terminal shuttle.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were wonderful and all treated us like family. They were especially caring when it came to my parents - at no extra cost, they relocated them to the Honeymoon Suite (just opposite the restaurant) when they realised how much my elderly mother was struggling to walk long distances. Then on my father's 75th birthday, they baked an enormous wedding style, decorative cake (along with 16 chocolate cupcakes) and presented it with a kahoa lole and the staff singing happy birthday, Tonga style.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything
Cons: Wine running out, lol
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff are the friendliest, happiest people and their desire to please is most endearing. They welcome you in to their resort, village and culture with open arms. The fale was basic but comfortable and clean. The island is beautiful, a truly idyllic location! Free snorkelling trips, good food, great people!
Cons: Water a bit of an issue but completely out of the staffs control as they rely on rain water given the islands location. They absolutely try their best to accommodate all problems!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: What a location! Relaxed. Basic but good value. And felt like it was a part of Tonga, not simply a resort. Family run. Fresh fish each day. You can arrange whale watching direct through Royal Sunset and they collect you. Great whale company too.
Cons: breakfast pretty poor: Not clear that they have a Rubbish system to collect waste. No recycling. Staff could be much more pro-active in telling you what there is to do, facilities there are (hot water for example was not offered until asked for). We were on the daily snorkel trip only to be told on the boat that we were meant to collect snorkel equipment before coming (too late!).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Ocean view was awesome. Snorkeling saw good variety of fish. Own it unground pool well maintained. Relaxing beautiful island stay. Uniquely Tongan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Privacy abounds. Beautiful location with activities available to keep you happy good food at reasonable prices.
Cons: Wifi was a little patchy but still available free of charge
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very quick responses when booking very flexible and accomodating, close to the main island good for day trips too.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing. Very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and helped make sure we enjoyed our stay. Good food too! Lovely outlook and the rooms were well equipped with everything we needed. Mosquito nets (especially over the master bed) were great and nice to have a fridge in the room too! We'd love to come back for a longer stay.
Cons: The pool was nice but does need a clean and a bit of an upgrade - but not too much of a biggie overall as was still great to be able to choose between pool and beach!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Relaxed island getaway just 20mins from the mainland. Loved the simplicity, friendly staff, snorkelling in a dinner deferent location each day. We enjoyed visiting the local village and plantation, and seeing a slice of real Tonga. We visited during off season so plenty of peace and quiet. Great cocktail list, and reasonable bar prices. We booked the beachfront unit, well worth it for the view and privacy.
Cons: Continental breakfast (included) and dinner basic. Take snacks with you for variety. Lunch was good - fish and chips worth ordering.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. Offering free snorkelling trips and village walks every day. Awesome to relax and unwind but also have a little cultural experience.
Emerald Hotel - Nuku‘alofa - Building
7.8 Good (84 reviews)
C$ 135+
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staffs were wonderful and extremely helpful.
Cons: I didn’t like the fact that the age of the building is noticeable. It is obvious that the owner isn’t putting any more money into further improvements.
4.2 Okay
Cons: It was really dirty with lot of mosquitoes stains all over the wall and lot of hair on the floor. It is a tipical chinese dirty hotel, i would not recommend it at all
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was a good size. The front staff were extremely helpful and made me feel very comfortable.
Cons: The owner was horrible and giving the girls at the front desk attitude when they were trying to help me. The toilet in my room didn’t flush at all.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location, delicious restaurant and amazing staff that worked hard to accommodate all of our needs.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff polite and helpful - Security guy was awesome always watched out for my rental car and very professional - place clean - just with weather being windy and close to beach ruined the reception for TV so was hard to watch any sports channels or cable when I did come back to rest at the hotel. Location good.
Cons: Probably just the cable TV having bad reception due to windy weather - but other than that its a peaceful clean place with friendly staff who respected my privacy.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The wifi was portable. One of the ladies behind the counter was soo soo nice. She was great and really refreshing to have with everything going on, didn’t have the heart to tell her when we checked out of how poor the stay was.
Cons: 1. Cockroaches, we arrived to one dead one in bathroom and another live one. Next morning now 2 dead one alive. Room got serviced, they gave towels but no more soap and just left the dead cockroaches there. Disgusting 2. Monday night someone used a swipe card to try and gain access to the room when we were sleeping, it was 12.30am. Door opened luckily we had set the catch lock which stopped them getting in, I got up went to see what was going on and the person was gone. 3. All inclusive breakfast was toast coffee and fruit. Not very extensive for 220 a night. 4. The website advertised a price of 685NZD for our whole stay. I was charged 820NZD. I mentioned this to the property and they said it was a government tax? But this was not mentioned at all on the booking page.
2.2 Mediocre
Pros: Property was 15 minute's walk from the outstanding Friends Cafe where we took all our meals.
Cons: Where does one begin? We were met by flies in our room upon checkin. No lift. The power and water and paid WiFi went off for hours and the extremely rude and arrogant general manager Teki Faletau was neither apologetic nor offering to knock one cent off the room rate for the huge inconvenience to us. He said it wasn't HIS fault. The hotel is an ugly poured concrete slab, not the "boutique hotel" as advertised. The onsite Chinese restaurant was poor at best with no Western offerings. Menu was in Chinese. Clearly a very basic Cinese businessman's hotel. Save your money and search elsewhere. Dr Steven and Janet Stanton Pasadena, CA
6.3 Good
Pros: Very serviceminded receptionist and clean standard rooms
Cons: A little run down, but maybe back on track..... All food incl. Breakfast was from the chinese restaurant, not impressive just very basic
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were beyond helpful. They were also caring and warm.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff was always so helpful and friendly
Cons: TV - all Chinese programs did not understand one bit .
