Wallpaper is peeling, holes need to be caulked, and some paint is also peeled.
the hotel/building is too Old, still smells even after cleaned. The facilities and rooms etc...all need to be updates. It's a must! No sound proof, you can hear next door talking. Only the hotel front door looks decent from outside.
Customer service needs to be improved
Clean simple room. Easy to find.
Staff was not knowledgeable. Upon check in, there was no one to check me in, and once they did they didn't give a key and left the counter to continue smoking it smelled like. Checking out the staff was aggressive and took a half hour to get my car from the valet. No one could tell me what was going on with my car, when I asked the man who had helped me what was going on with my car, he said it was coming around, and when I asked him again 10 minutes later when it was still not there, he seemed confused about what I was asking about (even though I was the only one waiting and asking about a car in the lobby).
The staff was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The elevator worked, the beds were comfortable, there was ample closet space, as well as a dresser and mini-fridge. There were coffee shops, pharmacies, and restaurants within a block or two of the hotel, which made it a great location. And the price, of course, was hard to beat.
It's an old building, which comes with both charms and inconveniences. The old radiators, for example, pump out quite a bit of heat, which must be great on those cool, foggy days. If you stay over warmer days like I did, shutting them off and opening the window will bring the room back down to a comfortable level, albeit slowly. There are also no ventilation fans in the bathrooms, so they have louvered windows in the showers to keep the moisture levels down. This creates an interesting dichotomy of hot and cold in the same space. It took some getting used to. There were only two outlets in the room, which I've come to expect in older buildings. As a business traveler on a budget, you learn to travel with a power strip.
Excellent location. Good value for price. A bit out-of-date and needs makeover. Bathroom clean and modern. Furniture old. Noisy if room is near Tavern. Breakfast adequate. Lack of AC not an issue most of the year.
The best part of the stay was the convenient location to Union Square and the affordable price.
When we used the valet parking (the only option for parking a car, and a pricey fee over and above the room charge), they assigned the car to the wrong room number, so at checkout time there was confusion and wasted time.
The hotel was fine. We did ask the staff for a quiet room, but instead got the (probably) most loud room. At the end of the hallway with aircon machines or what ever running all day/night making a lot of noise. The guy at reception said they stop at 10pm but they didn't. So he lied which I don't apreciate. For the rest reasonable hotel for the price.
The man that checked us in, lieing about the noise in the room.
It was very convenient for Union Square, theatre district, shopping etc. The breakfasts were more than adequate, the pub atmosphere at the end of the day was very relaxing and very friendly.
There was nothing to dislike, a little old fashioned, but for 2 oap's from uk was fine.
A very omfortable hotel, close to transport, restaurants, shopping, tourist activities. Very happy with it.
Very run down and supprised it was on booking.com as we have always had great hotels in the past this was very poor, very old and outdated in urgent need of a make over, rooms were very tiny and the bathroom was a joke would never stay here again, apart from one young lad on the desk the rest of the staff were as old as the hotel, very rude and unhelpful,if we had been staying in san francisco for any lenght of time we would of checked out and found a different hotel.
The room was big by SF standards. All the staff we encountered were very polite, warm and attentive. They also accommodated my request for a quiet room off the street.they have valet parking and real room keys(when do you see that?).It was a nice old hotel with a very good location.
Central to Union Sq and cable cars. Easy transport very close to all other SF attractions. Very reasonable proce for all day valet parking
Its proximity to the event I was attending.
Noise levels high.. Internal/external
Very friendly staff, convenient location and nice area, clean, comfortable, great value for the room rates.
None come to mind. Maybe tea and coffee faccilities in the room would be nice, but its not a major issue, it has a mini bar and the restaurant is just downstairs.
close to union square
