8.8 Excellent
Pros: Cute, comfortable place with great veranda.
Cons: Super loud music blaring next door till 4AM. Restaurant closed due to staffing issues.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was amazing!! Locations is great, room was big, clean and comfortable. Chris and her husband are amazing, super helpful. They even helpful once we left their hotel. Food is AMAZING, make sure to have dinner at the hotel.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is great except access is very poor. The steps from the street are very steep, uneven steps and no handrails. The is a bit of a driveway to avoid the stairs but is is also very steep. I found it hard to use. The stairs from the restaurant to balcony are not as steep but to get to the rooms the steps again were very steep with no handrails. Shower area very clean. The floor tiles were very slippery when wet A handrail in there would also be good.
Cons: Overall an OK Place.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location is great. Comfy rooms and beds. Nice bathroom with hot water. A/C in rooms is needed and is good. Just down the road from the bakery (great breakfasts) and 2 doors from the pharmacy fruit store and mini market.
Cons: No smoking on the property was not observed by owners or guests. Deck outside bedrooms was used by some guests for smoking...awful! The restaurant was not predictably open. It was not always possible to connect with hosts.
7.1 Good
Pros: Very affordable
Cons: Staying there Saturday night, there was a bar open until 4 AM with extremely loud music and impossible to sleep. This is because the property is close to the center of town
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner was super friendly and food was great. Short walk to the beaches and the local store.
Cons: Limited parking.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: The roosters next door are a bit obnoxious—at 4am,but c’est la vie.
6.0 Good
Pros: Nice big and clean room and decent restaurant.
Cons: During our stay there was a power failure that lasted for almost the whole night and morning. That is not a fault of the accomodation beacause the whole village was down, but it really downgraded our experience. We could not use airconditioning, wifi and the shower and toilet did not work (no water at all). We booked this more expensive (for our budget) accomodation to get a relaxing good night sleep after a lot of travelling so it really was a dissapointment. We heard that powerl failure is quite common in the location so they really should have a genarator to solve this (a lot of hotels did, we saw during our breakfast walk). Unfortunately there is no one available at the reception in the morning and the whatsapp option to contact them can't be used when the wifi is down and you don't have a local internet package on your phone.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner Kris was amazing and a true hostess. She made sure that we have everything we needed and was really laid back.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice resort with beautiful view on the ocean and sundown. Yoga retreat and tours to coiba available. Very well organized
Cons: Rooms are ok but shower can be better in terms of hygiene. They do not clean up your room when you are staying 2 nights. Not a problem for us but it would be nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, clean and very thankful for the surf boards they provided. Restaurant was awesome!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view is beautiful and my kids enjoyed the property, with a pool table, ping pong table, pool, hammocks and playground. There’s also a few boardgames provided by the hotel as well; although my children were too young to play with them. The staff is wonderful there. Everyone is friendly and helpful. It’s a fantastic place overall! We spent five days there in total.
Cons: The food could be better. You can leave the property to find better dining in town, but it would have really elevated the experience to have truly outstanding food available on the premises. It really hurts me to say this, as this property is excellent in many ways overall.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Everyone at sol y mar was helpful and welcoming. I had a foot injury and had trouble going up and down the stairs and the couple who owns this hotel accommodated me. They are extremely helpful and kind people! Also, the hotel is lovely and has amazing views, especially at sunset.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay in Sol y Mar hotel and would thoroughly recommend it. The views from the rooms, pool and restaurant are spectacular. The rooms are comfortable, quiet and clean. The restaurant was excellent and all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The location is perfect - a short walk into town. Thank you Luis! We were sad to leave!

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very well managed
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I like the room, it was very comfortable. The restaurant is good, the food was delicious. The staff is super nice and friendly
Cons: The entrance was dificult to walk, they should put more stairs. You could heard the neighbors.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Terrific host, staff, restaurant, swimming pool, birdwatching from balcony outside our room, proximity to town.
Cons: All good, no complaints.
6.0 Good
Pros: The bed was very comfortable. Great views from the pool and restaurant. Wifi worked well. The shower was also great with hot water and good pressure.
Cons: The place is in an overall state of disrepair. Starting with the pool area; the decking is warped and uneven, the plastic loungers are cracked, there are often no clean towels, and the pool is missing many tiles which are now loose in the bottom of the pool. As for the hotel grounds; garbage cans on the property are overflowing and foul smelling, the stairs to the property are uneven, and poorly designed and constructed. Much of furniture is in desperate need of replacement. The zip line project, which is seemingly no longer in operation, is not cordoned off and the wooden platforms are rotten and dangerous. Much of the property lacks hand rails and the high uneven decks outside of the rooms present a very real safety hazard. For this reason, the hotel is not appropriate for kids. Although the restaurant had rave reviews from other guests, we found the price was steep and chose to eat in town instead. It seems as though the hotel still wants to frame the restaurant as a four star experience even though the rest of the property is nowhere close. When we mentioned that we shared a great meal at a local restaurant (which cost only a fraction of the dinners at Sol Y Mar) the hotel manager scoffed and turned up his nose. The manager, Luis, is friendly enough. He speaks several languages and is quite familiar with what the town offers. Having said this, he reminded us more of a used car salesman than a hospitality professional. He is clearly in the money making business, and many of the quotes he gave us on tours and transportation were inflated. It quickly became apparent that he would be skimming a portion of these costs for himself. On at least two occasions he was forthcoming about this and jokingly exclaimed that he’d need to make a few dollars for himself. In our experience, it is normally the tour or transport companies that would pass on a percentage and not the guest. We would recommend exploring other places before Sol Y Mar.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great dinners and beautiful relaxation around the pool area. Love it
Cons: The hill is rough going up when hot but great view on top
