Hotel Carmel

Staff was friendly and helpful. Proximity to the promenade and the beach was great. But hard to enjoy without sleep.

The place is run down. Old furniture and mattresses. And really felt like the furniture didn't really fit in the rooms. Why is there a footboard on the bed that sticks out 8 inches at chin height? And the NOISE. Downtown Santa Monica is loud. I expected some noise. They put us right above the alley backed up against a bar. So party until 2 am, then delivery trucks at 6 am. So only a 4-hour window for sleep. And the walls and windows are old and have not been updated, so they are thin and do nothing to block out noise. The pillows were also old and lumpy. And the bed was too small for the room.

The location of the hotel was good, near the beach and the shopping promenade.

The hotel had a bit of a tired look, like it could have done with redecorating. Also the carpet in our room had a wet patch. Furthermore, our booking had not been registered correctly and they only had one room booked for us, however this was corrected and we got our two rooms.

The location was excellent and the bed was very comfy

This hotel was a let down from check in. The receptionist was indifferent to the point of rude. The room smelt as if someone had been sick. The room overlooked the ground floor roof which was fine but for the noisy machinery located there and the decor in the room was tired. I expected more from this hotel and it failed to deliver on so many levels. For the price I would have expected a lot more than a comfy bed and a great location
