8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Resort's bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. The facilities were very good. Although located in a not so very accessible location - thus requiring local bus connections to the town's train station, and a bit of a walk to the local bus terminal/stops - the Resort has in place a shuttle transfer from the main Sapporo Station, and from the Shin Chitose Airport.
Cons: Location isn't the most convenient in terms of accessibility (see above), and there are not too many other attractions nearby unless one has one's own means of getting around.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best stay we had during this trip. Onsen was superb. Rooms are clean and spacious and most importantly no cigarette smell in the rooms or corridor at #08. The buffet breakfast and dinner were sumptuous, with beautiful lake view. Staff were very helpful.
7.9 Good
Cons: There were some rude guests at the hot spring, i.e. splashing water, allowing their children being noisy and some were even taking pictures! Food choices are limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outdoor Onsen on the roof
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room with the private onsen
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our first public onsen experience. Our room is very spacious and clean. We had a nice view of the lake from our balcony. The dinner and breakfast buffet were good and there were many options available. Would love to stay again!

6.7 Good
Pros: The hotel was very nicely decorated and the atmosphere was good. The rooms were comfortable and the surroundings was very pleasant and nice to walk around. There was a harpist in the early morning and that made the hotel even more comfortable and a place to relax
Cons: The attitude of the staff at the front reception on checkin were to an extent rude and non welcoming. This also applies to the receptionist manning the desk of the restaurant where we went for breakfast needs to be improved.
7.1 Good
Pros: Very nice view
Cons: Location is very far away from the downtown, only with the hotel shuttle bus is workable while the it's only limited shifts
9.6 Excellent
Pros: 1) the views! The hotel is situated at the mountain top so it gives you great views from the room & lobby. Basically anywhere with a window will reward you with fantastic scenery 2) service is good 3) plenty of dining options 4) beds were very comfortable
Cons: 1) the French restaurant, Giligan’s Island, had a kid set menu for dinner which was not appetizing at all. My kids refused to eat any of it so it was quite a waste 2) there were a few bugs that managed to find their way into my room even though the windows were closed. These bugs would let out a stinky fluid when you brushed them off surfaces/ body. Seems to be common at this time of the year
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The sightseeing is unforgettable.
Cons: SPA is too expensive and the technique is just so so.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is great with an outstanding view of Lake Toya. The hotel is definately worth staying. Sunrise over Lake Toya is beautiful.
Cons: The onsen is a disappointment without views of the lake or ocean. I expect the hotel is more Japanese style.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice skiing activities right outside the hotel. Nice view to the bay and to the lake. Breakfast is average but considered acceptable.
Cons: A bit pricy for everything here.

2.5 Mediocre
Cons: There is no air conditioner in the room. When we asked to make sure we were using properly the device, a guy answered a little roughly that the room was hot because the weather is hot in Japan ! It’s my 7th journey in Japan, always in summertime (so thank you : I know Japan is warm) and I’ve never had this kind of stupid answer. At thé frontdesk, we finally had a more honest answer : the temperarure can’t be chosen because these are old devices. We were proposed to change room only when I informed them that we were not staying, even if we already paid for the room. So disappointing. The Toya Kohan Tei, located just next door, has at least rooms with air conditioner and the same view on the lake.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious room, and good range of amenities.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really great location on Lake Toya perfect for exploring.
Cons: Not a lot. The smell was a little stale.

Pros: The room was a great traditional style room with very comfy futon beds. The view of the lake was beautiful, too. The onsen in the hotel was a lovely bonus. Location was perfect - very close to everything.
Cons: The bathroom was a little small but I noticed a lot of hotels in Japan had the same sort of bathroom style/layout and were all quite small.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the people who work there were very nice and patient to foreign customers. Room is big with nice lake view. its location is relatively a bit far from the downtown street. however, i will still choose this hotel in my next visit. : )

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love the buffet breakfast and dinner. Love the onsen facilities too!
6.7 Good
Pros: The breakfast and dinner area.
Cons: Maybe the staff. They should have more trained English language staff.
5.4 Okay
Cons: It was my new year trip and the rate was really expensive. I paid almost triple price of the normal rate and I got such a disappointed room. I already called confirm it ll be lake view room but I got a whole building block the view. This room shouldn’t call lake view room! And I can’t change to other room coz only smoking room available and we can’t stand the smoke smell in the room. This was ruin my trip.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Onsen. Good spread of food for both dinner and breakfast, good service, near the illumination tunnel and lake view of room was beautiful. Hotel a bit old but lots of history.

Cons: Water temperature in room's bathroom is crazy difficult to set it right for showering. It's either extremely cold or extremely hot! Size of TV should be bigger.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The female Japanese receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. Gave us clear directions.
Cons: The male Japanese receptionist was very rude and kept asking if we spoke Chinese because he had a Chinese colleague and he could not understand English much. He also rolled his eyes at us and walked away when we next approached the front desk to ask for directions. Extremely rude.
6.2 Good
Pros: The location is good, close to the bus terminal and also quite easy to get other public facilitates.
Cons: the hotel is too big, and so many group travelers, that brings some uncomfortable for others, either the hotel shuttle bus is not enough for sending clients to the nearest JR station...

6.7 Good
Pros: The spa was good and has good views.
Cons: The rooms are older than I expected.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast food options were good. They may not have as many options but what they have available are really nice and tasty. The open-air baths were beautiful, overlooking the lake.
Cons: It would have been better if they provided towels at the onsen area rather than have you bring your own towels from the room. In addition, no one told us about this and we ended up at the onsen area without towels. As they only gave us 1 room key (for a family of 5), we did not have the key with us (it was with my father who is at the male onsen) and could not go get our towels. Thankfully there was a very helpful staff checking on the bath water and brought all 4 of us towels.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The view of the Onsen is very nice. The location as well is quite good, right in front of the lake. It is great to have a public bus stop in front of the hotel and the airport shuttle bus helps a lot.
Cons: The facilities of the hotel are quite old and there is smell in the toilet of the room. Even though we ask them to clean it again it still stinks.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, scenery, comfortable
Cons: Need to bring towel fr room to onsen. Onsen didn't provide towel. Else everything is perfect

Cons: Toilet in the room is smelly and everything quite old. Breakfast and dinner, food not enough. Too much tour group, not good for family trip.
Overview Reviews
Located in Toyako (Abuta), Granvillage Toya Daiwa Ryokan Annex is within a 5-minute walk of Lake Toya and Toyako Onsen. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and an elevator. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: Amazing view on the lake, ideal spot to observe the fireworks, hot spring was fine
Cons: The staff lacked warmth, the facilities could be refreshed. It feels like this property knows about its prime location and slacks on the rest
8.3 Excellent
Pros: View from the room is amazing!! Onsen was pretty good too. Facilities were clean. Japanese bed was comfy and warm. Thanks to the onsen I had the best sleep on my trip. Breakfast was substantial for someone who usually eats light in the morning but it was good food. Contrary to their listing they do have WiFi access in the rooms. No private toilet but the shared toilet is basic Japanese and clean. Showers are part of the onsen experience.
Cons: Staff charged the total cost to my credit card in my home currency though I specified yen. Could be a communication problem as they didn't speak English. Some customers were smoking on the same floor with their doors open made it hard to breathe when I was near them.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The view from the room is amazing.
Cons: The facilities that we need were not available. Maybe it’s because it’s a ryokan, not a hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The view from the room is fabulous. The staff is friendly and polite.
Cons: If only they had ensuite bathrooms...
9.0 Excellent
Pros: the great view of toya lake
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The view is very beautiful and very near to the lake. And there is Onsen and carpark available .
Cons: The smoke smells is constantly purged out in the room even though air freshener has been applied and even after open window to ventilate. Bedsheets is also full with smoke smells. The power tripped whenever using heater and kettle together. And we had been told we cannot boiled water with kettle at the same time as next room. Power usage is a problem.
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to everywhere, excellent views from the window.
Cons: The window is quite dusty, sound proof in the room is not very good.
7.1 Good
Pros: The dinner was quite delicious. Staff at dinner were friendly. Good view from the room window. Quiet Onsen in the basement with 2 small bathing pools. Seicomart is down the road and the bus station is just 8-10 minutes walk away.
Cons: Lots of wear and tear of the room fixtures and furniture. Small balcony outside the room is filled with mold. The corridors and elevator smelled of smoke. Front desk staff was nowhere to be found in the morning during check out.
Hotel Grand Toya - Toyako - Building
10
7.6 Good (830 reviews)
C$ 155+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Grand Toya in Toyako (Abuta), you'll be steps from Lake Toya and Toyako Onsen. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a vending machine. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.0 Good
Pros: Yukata available to wear. Public bathroom with hot water is so nice & so relax. Soap & shampoo provided are such a good quality. They also have outdoor bathroom that you can enjoy which also really nice. Reasonable price (with dinner & breakfast available). Food is nice.
Cons: Check-in step is a bit complicated (more regulation than usual compared to other hotels in Japan - but maybe because they don't want you to cause the damage to their hotel). Hotel is a bit old. Room is a bit small for 4 people. As most of the space in the room is covered with tatami (Japanese-mat) and they don't allow you to open your luggage on it, you have very small space left to open your luggage. Toilet is still an old-style (need to use toilet paper, no water system).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is near bus terminal and lake tour ship.
Cons: Check out time, luggage fee if after 12pm.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Lake view from the room.
Cons: Onsen is a bit small.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The staff at registration counter were great.
Cons: The property is very old and run down, the onsen facility was way below average. The staff who served us at the dining lounge was not well trained. The breakfast and dinner offered as part of the room package were of sub standard quality. Overall, our experience here was below expectation.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location Nice view from room They have onsen
Cons: Loud at night from hall. A bit old facility Not good Smell Staff can speak English just a little bit . When i was onsen , many old women overthere and one of them is bleeding.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Breakfast and dinner are marvelous.
Cons: Old hotel but it’s okay.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Nice lake view from the room, close to the bus station, employees nice to us.
Cons: Not specified on the rooms when you book, they're all smoking rooms. They announce it to you by mail just after your (non refundable) booking. We had a really smelly room. With the air cleaner it was not so bad after some hours. The water from the bathroom can't stay at a stable temperature. So you chose to get burnt or cold. The futons were not comfy. You can't select heating temperature, just the fan speed. No hair dryer in the room. The public bath was OK. But the shower was with push buttons, bad to use.

5.0 Okay
Pros: It was dusty everywhere. If you have hay fever please do not chose this hotel. I was with 3 friends and we had to wear mask to get to sleep. Even the change room of the onsen was dusty and had no slipper in the toilet.
7.0 Good
Pros: Good Japanese-style breakfast, and there is a small buffet if the breakfast-set is not enough.
Cons: Onsen (hot spring) is just ok. It's on the ground floor and there is no real open-air onsen. There is no vending machine/drinking water in dress room.
6.3 Good
Cons: Hotel guests have to pay onsen ,quite place, old Japanese style hotel
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great Onsen places, traditional onsen hotel, not like the usual mass tourists hotels. Comfort. Good food.
Cons: Only disappoint is the meal is now serving at the restaurant but not serving in your own room, as in the past. It seems the Onsen places did not change for male and female after one day.....If u stay for one night, u would probably enjoy your own sex onsen place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Onsen facilities
Cons: No hot water in the room

Pros: Location
Cons: Poor breakfast and futon were dusty
7.0 Good
Pros: Good 6-course ryokan dinner from adjacent onsen. Nothing fancy like crab but includes fish and meat Satisfactory breakfast buffet with curry rice, cold egg cake, pickled vegs, miso soup with dehydrated condiments, plain yogurt. Excellent ofuro on top floor of adjacent building overlooking lake. Outdoor (rotenburo) option. Good location at east end of town at opposite end from main bus eki, but public stop nearby. Takes 1-2 hours to walk to or from rope tow to Usu-san. Hourly bus from JR station costs ¥340 pp.
Cons: No wifi, and front desk not staffed in morning. Old plain building but clean with windows that can open.
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was central, the room was comfortable and the dinner and breakfast were good.
Cons: The hotel décor was a bit worn and tired. The onsen area did not look very appealing
6.7 Good
Pros: Location is good, near the lake. Can walk to see firework at lake. Dinner was good.
Cons: Window was not clean. Curtain in bathroom was dirty. Facilities are very old.
5.8 Okay
Cons: Japanese suite without any chair ,I do not know to wear shoes ?
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is old but I enjoy every bit of it. It's quiet, low dense, mainly locals staying in this hotel. Due to not many guests in the hotel, I was able to enjoy the onsen alone. For better view, we can also enjoy the rooftop onsen for free at the sister hotel opposite. Each room is equipped bathroom and bathtub, so we can take shower in the bathroom if we are not comfortable to shower in the onsen facility publicly. We stayed here for two nights during early Nov and we really enjoyed the food be it breakfast or dinner, feels like eating home cooked food every meal. Will definitely choose this hotel if we are to visit toya again.
Cons: The hotel does not accept credit card.

Located in Toyako (Abuta), DAIWA RYOKAN is within a 5-minute walk of Lake Toya and Toyako Onsen. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Pros: I will respond gently. As it is this season's price so so.
Cons: None There are no common tea and tea sweets at the inn. The room smelled like tobacco. The room shakes as you go up and down the stairs.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: Daiwa Ryokan is old, worn out and old fashioned. It is a ‘tired’ place with a tired host and tired interior, tired common facilities and a very basic onsen. If it had been half price all ‘‘this would all have been okay- as the our room itself was clean and okay despite it’s old. But the level is much more a cheap backpackers place than a place where you enjoy a family vacation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen
Cons: The whole place was cold, except room with heater.
5.4 Okay
Cons: There are many ants running on the floor. It is disgusting ! We have to sleep with the ants. Japanese hotels should not be like this!!!!!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really nice Ryokan, good breakfast, the family owners are nice and helpful. Real onsen with thermal water.
7.0 Good
Pros: Place with great charm. The staff were very kind, spoke English and they were super helpful. Fantastic location for real taste of traditional ryokan, 1 min walk from lake Toya. Great location!
Cons: Unfortunately because we went off season, we couldn’t have breakfast, but I read other reviews saying how delicious it is!
3.1 Mediocre
Pros: The bath was good.
Cons: Service was horrible. The manager was extremely rude and impatient. His grandson (I suppose) was nice though. Men’s room was so small it was difficult to use. There were no curtain in the room so we got woken up at 4am.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good location. We had a 4 person room and it was spacious and comfortable. The shared bathrooms were clean. The young guy who checked us in was friendly and spoke good English. I love all the Ultraman figurines and toys throughout the hotel.
Cons: The flooring and walls are in pretty rough condition. A lot of the lino has been repaired using craft tape.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is very near to the lake Toya and we have had a very special breakfast there. Will strongly recommend to friends in Singapore.

Pros: The room with the private onsen
10.0 Excellent

Cons: The hotel was a 10-15 min drive from the main part of town. The breakfast could have been a little more substantial.
