I am American and I approve!!
First let me say, this place gives a courtesy email on how you can get to the hostel from airport which was amazing! Taxi, bus, or they pick you up for 150 RMB. It's about 45 mins from the airport. Warning taxi drivers will bombard you like bees around a hive immediately when you step pass security. I negotiated 100 RMB to get there ( they won't take anything lowers that 100 RMB). My advice while staying anywhere in Zhangjiajie is to have everything written in mandarin. They don't understand English or pinyin. Booking.com has a great feature for giving the address in local language. Also airport staff do not care to help you. I originally was trying to take the buss for 12 RMB but they only pointed where he bus station was but wouldn't help pass that! Grr... About facility. - Their is one staff that speaks English very well and she is so helpful on anything and everything. The facility is behind a building so it's so hard to find unless you know where to look, this is why I'm happy the taxi driver took me. The rooms were clean, had a nice cabin feel to them, and they are also updated. They provide a wash rack to hang clothes, which is very convient! Bathrooms are interesting, but that's just Chinese culture for you. (Shower is 4 inches from toilet, so everything gets wet when you shower) Yes it is a sitting toilet and not a squat toilet. They have a little flat screen tv which every station is in mandarin. Wifi- first night I was upstairs on the 3rd floor and took so long to load anything. It basically didn't work. Then 2nd night same room and it worked. 3rd night bottom floor worked fine. 4th night same bottom floor it was slow again. However the lobby worked fine the entire time!
They are doing construction to the building next door and was constantly woken up by hammering, saw blades, and construction noise at 7 am. This will probably go on for another 3 ish months. I didn't mind the first night because it beat my alarm clock and I just went hiking. BUT: after 2 days of completely exerting myself that was a nuisance because I just wanted to sleep in. It's out of the hostels control, but honestly I would book their again. You shouldn't be sleeping in late anyways because the lines in the mountain will be so long it will ruin your stay. Advice get up and leave when construction starts and you will have a better time hiking. The good thing is construction stops at like 5 pm so you can go to bed early to get up early!
