KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Thousand Oaks

  • Thousand Oaks is home to several exciting attractions that you can't miss, such as the Kids World Family Fun Center. This indoor playground has fantastic activities for adults and children. You can also make pit stops at Westlake Village and Civic Arts Plaza. A car rental in Thousand Oaks is the best way to explore these places. With the rental, you have the flexibility to do whatever you want. Additionally, you can visit other areas close to Thousand Oaks, like More Mesa, which is 55 miles away.
  • Thousand Oaks has many adventures, so don't limit yourself to one location. Rent a cheap car in Thousand Oaks and set off to explore the nearby cities. For a terrific sightseeing excursion, go to Anaheim. It is about 60 miles from Thousand Oaks and is home to several wonderful attractions, including Disneyland. Los Angeles, which is 35 miles away, is a popular destination for travelers. While you're here, be sure to visit Universal Studios Hollywood. It's one of the main factors attracting tourists to this energetic city.
  • Flying to Thousand Oaks could mean landing at Los Angeles International Airport. LAX is 30 miles from Thousand Oaks. While Burbank Airport is closer to Thousand Oaks, there are no direct flights to this airport. Therefore, it is better to fly through LAX. Furthermore, you can get a Thousand Oaks car rental from LAX. The rental car offices in LAX are away from the airline terminals. Car rental companies meet customers at the lower or arrivals level islands outside baggage claim. You will see purple signage "Rental Car Shuttles," where you can pick a shuttle to the car rental facilities.
  • Renting an electric vehicle has many advantages, including significant financial savings and a less carbon footprint. Electric automobiles are ideal for drivers who wish to save on gasoline costs and lessen their environmental effects. If you rent an electric car in the city, Consider staying at a hotel with an electric charging station. These include the Fairfield Inn Santa Clarita Valencia, Malibu Beach Inn, the Huntley Hotel, the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, the Motel 6 Thousand Oaks South, and the Topanga Canyon Inn Bed and Breakfast. Additionally, there are landmarks with electric charging stations, such as the Ontario Convention Center, Westfield Topanga, and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor.
  • Thousand Oaks is home to thousands of oak trees, as the name suggests. Some of the trees are on the street. Though the trees don't frequently fall on the road, drive carefully not to hit them. Installing a navigation system in your Thousand Oaks car rental is also a good idea. The system will help you get to your destination without getting lost in the enigma of the city's streets.
  • You must be at least 25 years old and have a driver's license that has been valid for at least two years to get a cheap car rental in Thousand Oaks. Along with your driver's license, you must present a passport, a credit or debit card, and an identity card. Also, ensure you have your international driving permit if you need to show it. As each car rental company has different restrictions, we advise you to speak with them directly.
  • When driving in Thousand Oaks, expect the roads to be busier in the early mornings and late evenings. Most people in the city drive to work. As a result, traffic congestion is evident at about 6 am and 5 pm in the evenings. Nevertheless, traffic in Thousand Oaks is not as bad as in other parts of the country. The city has a population of about 130,000, so traffic clears out quickly.
  • Book your rental car in Thousand Oaks at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price
  • Economy rental cars in Thousand Oaks are around 48% cheaper than other car types, on average

KAYAK
I reserved a cargo van through Kayak totaling just over $150.00 for the two days I needed it. The reservation was made with Enterprise and it was made well in advance of when I needed it. I got a call less than 48 hours before I was scheduled to pick it up saying that they did not have a cargo van available and wanted to know if I would be flexible in taking a smaller vehicle. I explained that I wasn't due to the fact that the space would not be big enough and that the size was the sole reason why I chose the vehicle I did. I let them know that the only option that would work for me, other than the cargo van I had reserved, was something bigger. They looked into an extended roof cargo van and told me that not only could they not guarantee they would have one available but also that the cost of that vehicle would be well over $1,000.00 - it might have even been a couple thousand dollars, I honestly think I blacked out when I heard him say the price because it was SO absurd and such an insanely large price increase from the SLIGHTLY smaller van I originally was quoted $150.00 for. Needless to say, I let him know that was not an option due to the insane price. They said they would let me know "tomorrow by end of day" if they would have the vehicle or not. That meant he would call me around 6pm on Friday when I was supposed to pick up the vehicle at noon Saturday, giving me 18 hours to figure out another option if they were unable to locate a cargo van for my reservation. So I immediately went online and frantically started searching for other options. Now I was left with slim pickings and/or higher costs due to it being last minute. (Also, some options I had previously found before booking through Kayak, had gone up in price as my requested date was now only a 2 days away) Another thing that made my blood boil was the fact that the Enterprise location that had just called to tell me they could not fill my reservation, was STILL showing up on the Kayak website as having an AVAILABLE cargo van for those dates. So not only are both Kayak and Enterprise allowing people to RESERVE vehicles that neither company can guarantee they will have available, but you are still allowing people to reserve them even after you KNOW that you don't have them available. If you know you 100% you won't be able to provide someone with a specific rental request, take it off the damn options list! It's not like I requested a Ford F-150 and I got a Ram 1500, or I reserved a blue car and then was given a red one...this is a change that literally makes my entire purpose for renting no longer possible. What if I requested a vehicle that could seat 7 people, would you give me the keys to a car that seats 5 when I get there? Either way I would like to make a suggestion that might prevent you from pissing off people in the future who try and book using Kayak or Enterprise...why don't you change your booking process so either 1. You can not book a vehicle unless the vehicle can be guaranteed. Or option #2. MAKE IT KNOWN to the customer that they are NOT ACTUALLY MAKING A RESERVATION but in reality, they are simply making a REQUEST for a vehicle and the companies responsible for filling that REQUEST will try their best to do so. The company's inability to fulfill my reservation was, for me, inconvenient, costly, stressful, time consuming, irritating...I could keep going but I won't. To sum it up, I will never use either company in the future and will encourage others not to either. Thanks for a whole lot of nothing but a headache and bad taste in my mouth.

KAYAK

Pros:

Staff was super friendly. Just was kind of irritated that it jumped 300 something dollars to 730 dollars because of all the fees/"upgrades" that I wasnt sure about because they seem small but they nickel and dime you to death the 200 dollar deposit was ridiculous compared to enterprises 60

Cons:

Fees. enough. I liked the gas and liability fee. But honestly was extremely overpriced.

Nothing, the worst car rental experience I've ever had

Cons:

Everything. The customer service was terrible, the car was awful and the whole experience was horrible. So bad in fact, I went to enterprise the same day to rent a car because hertz was a joke. I'll never rent through either hertz or kayak again. Absolutely terrible experience all around.

KAYAK

Pros:

Friendly staff. - super easy pick up and drop off

Cons:

Tank was just 1/2 full - would have been nice to have full tank to start off our journey.... But that's just a small inconvenience. Car was clean and comfortable. Part of the front right panel was loose upon picking up vehicle - it was noted by staff, but I think it should have been fixed before renting to me. It made a whistle sound driving down the highway....
