Enterprise is a better option. If you go with an EV, make sure you get info on charging infrastructure. Fast chargers were scarce in our experience and we had to wait in a multicar line for over 30 minutes to get to a charger, then the 48 min charging began. Note: many chargers exist but many are slower low power chargers that take hours. Tesla has more chargers and seem to charge faster than the non-tesla alternatives ut are currently tesla specific.

Use one of the national names - I rent in LA all the time, and they are efficient, all costs are clear from the reservation confirmation and the shuttles arrive and depart regularly. If you use a consolidator who does not tell you the name of the rental agency, I would say, don't take it because you might end up with one of the smaller groups, which are less convenient and far less transparent. The low price is not worth the aggravation of dealing with the smaller rental groups.

We checked with both our insurance company and credit card benefits coverage to confirm what we needed before we rented. Confirm credit limits and bring insurance card in addition to credit card and drivers license. If paying with debit card, would call rental car office to get specific information prior to arriving. Take the extra time to book from an offsite (away from the the airport) location. Let local people drive you out of and back into the airport. Save your driving for road trips from your hotel. The shuttle is free. Don't worry. If you're kind to the people and your car it will be a great experience. If the extra insurance that they offer you is affordable to you buy it. Otherwise don't worry. It's not a scam to get you to pay for previous dings and scuffs. If you want just call your own insurance before you leave and pay them. You are allowed to decline Aces insurance. Monday morning lineups weren't to bad at the rental office.

It's a little confusing how to get to the Midway lot. Make sure you take the M (Metro) Line bus which is at the PINK column (NOT the purple column which takes you to the main rental center). The Metro bus will take you to a bus stop where transfer vans are waiting for all the smaller, non recognizable, car rental companies. Jump in the van for Midway, and you'll be at their lot within a few minutes. It's a little convoluted to get to them, but they do a great job in customer service, and their prices are great, so I think it's worth it.

Most rental car places are closed in anaheim on Sunday by 4pm. So if renting to drop off one way from Lax to anaheim, look at dropping off to John Wayne airport which is only 20mins from anaheim. This way you can avoid the parking costs at hotels etc if you don’t need the vehicle during your stay.

Understand if you plan on using any toll roads and get a transponder from the rental company so you don’t rack up an unnecessary expense. Book a vehicle to suit your needs and get something that gets good gas mileage. Gas is around $5 a gallon around LA.

Driving in LA is not as bad as you may expect, the traffic is the worst when you get stuck on the highway during rush hour. Parking in city may be difficult to find depending on where you are but there is always a garage nearby, and quite a few have EV charging capabilities.

Driving from LAX to Anaheim and back is not a hard drive. There will be traffic in and out of LAX just leave yourself time. If you don’t need to take a turn off or exit for a number of miles /km stay in the middle lanes. If you have multiple people, get in the carpool lanes, just leave enough distance to get over to your exits (2miles/3.5km).

Traffic was really heavy during rush hour mornings and after work, avoid driving during these times. Congestion can cause 15-20 mins of delays from one destination to another. Pay attention to highways on summit and valley. Also, pay attention to the HOV lanes that required fast trek transponder as there will be hefty surcharge from car rental if you went inside HOV that requires that. You can set "avoid tolls" on your Google map.

  • If you are flying into Los Angeles International Airport, you need to be aware that all the rental car companies are off-site. When you land, you will need to exit your terminal and use the courtesy shuttles. Your first option for your pickup is to go to the Lower/Arrivals Level islands outside baggage claim and wait by the "Rental Car Shuttles" sign. Alternatively, you can go to the LAX Shuttle Airline Connection and take a shuttle bus to the Remote Rental Car Depot.
  • Driving in Los Angeles can be challenging due to the city’s infamous traffic. Therefore, as a visitor, you should look out for Carpool and High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes. Sixt's capacity to partner with a renter's existing auto insurance company is VERY limited. I have Geico auto insurance and they do NOT cover rentals from Sixt. This means that I MUST utilize Sixt's expensive rental car insurance. I wasted valuable time showing up to rent a the car I reserved from Sixt only to find out from my vehicle insurance company, Geico, that I would not be covered. The Sixt agent was cagey and dodged my questions about insurance coverage for my scheduled rental. PLUS they had none of the cars I had hoped to rent. I will not be using Kayak and DEFINITELY not be using Sixt for any future car rental needs. I wasted so much of my time dealing with this clusterf**k of a scheduled rental. I have a long memory and feel like I got burned by you . I ended up renting directly from Enterprise. Geico does provide insurance for their rentals.

The customer service isn't exceptional, but it's adequate. This is a respectable car company, one of the few remaining in an industry often marked by dishonesty. The staff were nice and helpful. The car was nice and clean. But we did experience over 40mins of delay before the car became available.

Price was competitive. Drop off in another state was a must which Fox allowed. Pickup wasn’t anything amazing. No instructions to check damages. No explanation on how to start the vehicle. Vehicle was dirty. Could barely understand what the front desk guy was saying. Drop off, no thank you offered or pleasant customer service by the intake person. Shuttle driver was helpful, however made it clear to everyone on the bus that he had to work another shift on Christmas because someone else didn’t show up for the shift. He did apologize about being late but really didn’t need to share that extra info. Overall, decent experience. Probably won’t use Fox again.

The price on Fox was much cheaper than the brand names. You worry about the shuttle, but it was no different than the other rental companies. The shuttle picks up and drops off at the same location as the other rental companies. The rental pickup was easy. My only complaint is the hard sell on the fastrak toll service. It only applies to the express lanes, not the normal highway. Stay off the express lanes and don't use the fastrak. Car return was easy.

i did not rent the car from Midway due to the untold mileage restrictions placed upon locals that live in Los Angeles, California. I was informed after waiting more than 1 hour in line that it would be $400.00 holding on a credit card. I absolutely am disappointment in both Kayak and Midway. I will not look at Kayak as a travel search option again, Also, since I did not rent a car at Midway LAX . Kayak please return the insurance coverage back to me.

We were given an “upgrade” (aka reserved car not available) which was simultaneously assigned to another renter. We got there first so we got it. The person at checkout booth questioned why we had the car but paperwork confirmed the assignment. The car was in poor and potentially dangerous condition. We were driving the pacific coast highway (foggy) and the wiper cleaner would not spray. Other issues included bent tailgate that required repeated closure to latch. We reported the problems via Avis online support form. It was a weekend on xmas week so some delay might be ok, but despite 3 subsequent updates from us, Avis's only reply was automated confirmation. They still have not replied (8 days). Given online support does not exist, why is it an option and why doesn't autoreply say to call. After waiting 2 days of more harrowing rides in smeared glares of headlights, we called and were able to get another vehicle. The Avis worker was rude and sarcastic but the new car was significantly newer and in better condition. I will choose another rental company in the future.

When we arrived at the pickup counter line, Avis had 5 agents behind the counter. 4 of the 5 went on break when they were done with their customer, leaving just one agent at the counter and a growing line behind us. Then the single counter agent started handling people who walked in straight to the counter to exchange their cars. At that point there was no moving line and it didn’t look like we had any option for talking to an agent. Finally an agent came back from break and seemed to be very annoyed that she had to deal with people. Car was dirty, I couldn’t see how the back window. It was wiped down, but streaked with white material.

The worker that helped me was really nice and helped me understand the charges. However, the car that I received had a trunk that was broken and wouldn’t open. It only worked for about a couple of hours. I turned it back in 5 days later and they told me that the car had a trunk malfunction and they thought it was fixed. It wasn’t because I wasn’t able to use my trunk for basically my whole reservation. When I asked for compensation they refused any fee waivers or any support with my inconvenience that I had.

They did have a vehicle for me, BUT it was a fully electric vehicle that they said was all that they had in my price range. The last time I rented from this particular Hertz, he gave me a complimentary upgrade just to be nice. But this person, Alfredo, kept shoving the key at me and started my paperwork even though I'd never used a fully electric vehicle before. Here's how it went. You have to drive WAY out of your way and wait in line with other cars (which takes about 30-60 minutes) to charge your car (which takes another 1-2 hours, it's very slow) and while your charging your car, other people stare you down as if to say "Are you done yet?" In general, there are WAY too many electric vehicles than there are charging stations and when you get there very few work. And even swiping your card may not work. I was a single woman on a long trip. Being stranded in the middle of the desert with no way to recharge was not an option. Clearly Hertz just cares about the numbers than my safety.

The woman who helped us was rude. We came in 30 minutes early and our type of car wasn’t available. Budget was great. There was a problem with the car they initially assigned, but they promptly reassigned us a different car. Drop off was super easy and so really appreciate that as the last time I rented from a different company (also through Kayak) the experience was horrible, especially drop off. Based on that last experience I was a little nervous about another rental, but Budget was great! Will definitely use Budget again

I was thrilled to find Budget around the corner from my house. When I arrived the clerk was extremely rushed and rude. When I asked if she was doing okay she said "that that was her being polite." She essentially threw the paperwork at me. The car I reserved was not available and I was put in a very large minivan (that I wasn't super comfortable driving) and when I got to the car the carpet was filthy. I tried to ask for a new car and the clerk just waved me off. She didn't even speak to me or say anything about the car upon drop-off.

Pick up in Lós Angeles and we will return in Las Vegas on 01.01.25 in Hertz 1815 Sahara Avenue. However, at the scheduled return, the rental company was closed with no instructions on where to leave the car. When we called the central office, they told us we would have to return it at another location or keep the car for an additional day. Since we already had plans, we couldn’t go to another agency to return it. Therefore, we kept the car for one more day.

Pick up was great. Rico, who was helping me, was an absolute pleasure. However, driving off the lot was the worst experience. It took me close to 45 mins to leave. It was the slowest process to leave. Will never be renting a car from LAX again.

Communication is a real problem for this company. They don’t answer their phone or return calls. I tried multiple times over a two day period. Their “Live Chat” option online is apparently un-manned. Never got a response. Dropoff was a nightmare for me.

The worst experience I have ever had, when we arrived at 4pm they were already closed, I called customer service and they couldn't resolve anything, I had to rent a car somewhere else and when I go the next day to pick up the car I had rented they told me They had canceled my reservation and were sold out. There were 2 other guests in front of me upon arrival so i expected a bit of a wait as there was only one person who was at the terminal to assist with the rentals. Once it was my turn i realized that the older woman who was helping guests was very slow and very rude. I would have waited for someone else had ANYONE else been available. The lady did not have the vehicle i requested so i had no choice but to take a smaller vehicle. I was not happy with that but she made it worse that she was unsympathetic and just rude overall. When i dropped off the vehicle, the woman that helped me was very nice and polite so not all employees are rude; just the older woman.

Great little rental c company. They have good prices, clean vehicles, and the staff was amazing. When I got there they said I'd have to pay an extra $13/day for California's liability insurance but it's not actually extra, as kayak includes that in the prices they show you when you first search.

Booked a car the day before rental to start. Got confirmation email. Later in evening, apparently got an email that they were cancelling rental, as “car was not available.” Did not see email until in airport, in layover, before final leg of trip. Just luck I noticed it. Do not rent a car, if you don’t have the car to rent. The way you would want a company to respond would be as follows: “We apologize to inform you that the vehicle class you booked is unavailable - for your rental period. So, we have instead upgraded your rental to the next, higher rental class. We appreciate your business.” That’s it. THAT’s how you handle it. Please see the Jerry Seinfeld episode about rental cars…. Unfortunately, that scorched my desire to ever use them again.

Not surprising, I know, but it was worse than I’ve had in the last 10 years. I feel like rental companies used to find ways tack on fees but not so much in recent years. At Economy in LA, it’s hard yo get there. Not completely Economy’s fault, but you have to find a bus (which is totally confusing cause the bus that goes to rental cars isn’t it), to a lot to get a shuttle. When you get there, they have no bathroom, they don’t accept the insurance you paid for with your booking, and their deposit is $500 which takes weeks to get back after. Staff were nice though. Cars as clean and ready.

They are a rip off. They don’t tell you that they don’t accept Canadian insurance nor credit card insurance. They tried to charge me over $50 per day for their insurance, which more than doubled the cost. Luckily I found a nearby competitor to treat me like an important customer and solve my problems rather than create them upon arriving in LA for a family vacation. I will never use Economy Car Rental again and I will be sure to spread the message.

I had called in a couple of times to clarify drop off and shuttle times and was told the location was closed until 5am. So I dropped my party off at the airport for 4:15am then went back to wait at the rental car location to return the vehicle. Because of timing I pre booked an Uber car to pick me up at 5:20 to hopefully get me back to the airport in time for my 7am flight. To my surprise the rental car location drop off was actually open despite what I was told on the phone. So I was able to return the car and get on a shuttle before 5am. So I ended up cancelling my Uber and paying a cancellation fee. The stress of trying to ensure vehicle return, getting to my flight and then wasting money to book an Uber because of bad information over the phone is annoying.

The rental location is terrible. It's a small office on a shady strip. The cars are on the roof of adjacent parking deck. The Guys who work there are really nice but the car was shady. It had no window fluid, it was a screech every time you turn. The back seat headrest didn't work. The list goes on... Just pay the extra money and go to a reputable place. This place is below low budget. Never again!

Please tell kayak to take off the car insurance offering they have on their web portal. U-save refused to allow me to use the collision and liability car insurance I purchased which was offered on the kayak website. It was a huge waste of time. They didn’t want to accept the insurance coverage I purchased. They refused to sell me any coverage as well and said I had to use my own car insurance as coverage as well as hold a 1500$ deposit. The location was creepy in the evening. They didn’t have any parking. The place was dirty. The employees were not helpful. I ended up leaving with no rental.

I had a terrible experience with this company. They do not accept any insurance other than their own, and if you have already purchased insurance elsewhere, they simply refuse to give you the car. If you decide to buy their insurance, you’ll be faced with an outrageously high price, much more expensive than any other rental company. **BEWARE** I’m not usually a write a review type of person but my experience with them was so bad I had to. So let me start by saying that I am Canadian and took a trip to LA with my wife and we had everything prepared prior to arriving at U-save. When we got there there was a few people in line so they handed us a paper with a clipboard to have everything filled out and ready by the time we got the front of the line. So we did. We did get liability and collision insurance prior to going and even had proof of our U.S insurance but they wouldn’t even look at it and stated it was impossible for us to get insurance because we are Canadian. And then they said it was impossible for us to get a U.S insurance because we didn’t have an American drivers license. They said we HAD to buy their insurance which was conveniently more than the price of the car we were renting. Even our insurance company (who we had on the phone) thought these people were just con artists. Not to mention through all this the manager who happened to be there was extremely rude. Anyways if you go with this company just be prepared to pay much more because they will come up with random charges.

My experience with State Van Rental was ok. The attended was professional and explained there process. What could have been better….. an updated van. I like how the attendant came and picked us up and drop us right off at the drop off area for our flight. In my next travel if a van is needed I will use them again.

Got a car after waiting longer than an hour for it as the process is totally manual - calling the dispatcher to locate a car I ordered days before (who really saved the day and did a fantastic job in balancing out the incompetence of process and the don’t care attitude of the front desk person). When I got the car it was on empty - what the heck? I then ended up paying 340$ on top of the 170$ I had signed up for - never again!

Terrible. Customer service at the counter was so bad we ended up not even being able to get our car. Went next door and got a car with no problems at all. Priceless is horrible and I lost all my money. No one would give me a refund. Won’t use Kayak or Priceless again.

I’ve booked and paid for my ride plenty early to get the best deal. I was supposed to pick up the car at noon but decided to get the car after dinner. When I arrived, they have canceled my reservation that I have already paid for. Made me rebook the car through a third party for double the cost then proceeded to tell me the unlimited mileage is only good for people who arrived at the airport the same day. So I had to pay more for unlimited miles. Read the fine prints, friends. They will try to get you every way possible.

the company refused to actually give me the car I rented and made a security payment for. the reason was some obscure chargeback that was on my account but nobody could explain it to me and I was not aware of anything. left me stranded in th emiddle of nowhere with two suitcases to find another rental company. found one after a sweaty while and paid $ 200 more than I originally budgeted... very bad customer service!!

Rental car pick up and return was the worst part of our trip. Shuttle from lax to office involved a sketchy transfer in an empty parking lot. Took us nearly two hours from time of arriving to office until we drove away and there were only 6 people ahead of us in line. Office was uncomfortable and had technology that didn’t work (endlessly looping promo audio was super loud, QR code to fill out paperwork while waiting in line led to a broken link). Nothing about the office seemed above-board… all transactions and communication between the lot and the office was done via cell phone. For return, directions given did not match the reality (website said they opened at a different time, parking instructions were unclear). The return lot was extremely sketchy- run down, dirty, garbage everywhere including broken glass, dirty clothes abandoned by homeless folks in the stairwell, very little signage- to the point that I was worried I was returning my car to a scammer who would steal it. Receipts/documentation of return from the company was not provided. Shuttles to the airport run only once per hour and the neighborhood was not one I’d feel comfortable waiting 45 minutes outside with my child in. I will never use Kayak to choose an inexpensive rental car ever again.

I liked the low price. I did not like that we had to present our declarations page with our insurance to prove that we had coverage. That was a huge nuisance. Four people in line in front of me did not have the correct documents (because nobody carries those around with them!) and they were on the phone with the insurance companies trying to receive it. I had mine quickly available but the document is so long that it took the receptionist so long to look through it. She couldn't find that I had coverage so I had to pay an additional fee. After looking it over later, I saw that I did have coverage.I just feel like its a dishonest way of getting extra money for the rental.

I feel scammed. There were no instructions about how to find the rental car facility, no phone number to call, and I could not even find the company on Apple Maps or google so I wasn't willing to uber to a random address that was shown on the reservation (as a woman traveling alone), especially since it was listed as having a shuttle service from the airport. No signs listing the company at the airport or remote rental lot, and no airport employee I asked had ever even heard of the company and therefore could not give me directions. I ended up renting a car through another company and never found the mythical mexrentacar. I would love for someone from Kayak to contact me for a refund on this.

The car return was weird and sketchy. A young man dressed in a black t shirt and black pants hopped out of a vehicle next to where you return the rentals and asked if we were returning the vehicle. A bit caught off guard I said yes. As he was tapping on his device I stood there contemplating if he worked for the car rental place or just a random guy. When he finally confirmed my name I released the keys to him. My suggestion would be to have uniforms that indicate they’d work for the car rental and not just some random individuals. Secondly allow the customers to do a final walk through without feeling pressured to do so incase they forgot something in the vehicle.

Easy access and streamlined pickup. It's a bit confusing around requirements. The blurb states photo ID driver's license but doesn't state that passports are mandatory in the main introduction. I had to return to pick up my passport. Other locals were having similar problems around proof of address when we arrived, so there is room for improvement. The other thing is they need to be clearer in what insurances were needed. I ticked the cover I thought was required but on arrival got told that I had to add a second insurance as it was compulsory in LA but this was not shown in the main application as compulsory.

Terrible experience. We spent two hours in the rental car office getting through all the hidden fees and extra charges they have. Requires a $2000 deposit in addition to an extra $25/ day rental fee unless you pay to have their insurance. Lady behind the computer was rude, disrespectful, and combative. The First car they put us in had a flat tire. 2nd car stank like weed and was dirty. 3rd car was dirty, had body damage, and warning lights indicators on the display about safety systems being damaged. Will NEVER rent from this company again. Kayak and Expedia should not offer them as a rental option.

No easily accessible pick up instructions. Have to call their shuttle personally-is not among circulating lax shuttles. Pick up address was incorrect in booking email. Car provided had broken tail light and when callling to report and request reassurance we wouldn’t be responsible for preexisting damage was just told to email corporate who still has yet to respond. Tried to upsell on insurance despite having 2 policies

Right Cars is purposefully misleading. They advertise super cheap rental prices and then expect local renters to either pay $2000 deposits if you use your own insurance or a $29.99 a day + $250 no refund deposit. Extraordinarily rude customer service as I noticed when they were speaking to the person infront of me. I would like them removed from your website.

Los Angeles can be a famously tricky city to navigate when you first arrive. Without a comprehensive public transport system, getting around its multiple neighborhoods and seeing its many sights can be a challenge, especially seeing as this isn’t a city that people walk around – which is why the best option here is to rent a car as soon as you arrive. Driving around the city will make you feel like a real Angeleno, though be warned you may well spend much of your time behind the wheel stuck in traffic – LA is famous for its traffic jams, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. Mandatory paperwork for renting a car in Los Angeles

To rent a car in Los Angeles, you’ll need to make sure each driver has a valid driving license. Most rental companies are happy to accept international driving licenses as well as American ones, but it’s always worth double-checking the car rental terms as well. Each rental company has its own rules – some might not be willing to rent to drivers who haven’t held their driving license for 36 months or more, for example.

If you’re traveling from overseas, you will also need to show a valid passport as proof of ID. You’ll also need a credit card so you can pay for the deposit on the car. Don’t have a credit card? Many major car hire agencies will accept debit cards, but some won’t, so it’s best to check in advance.
