very slow pick up at LA. The shuttle was small and not frequent enough. Crowds are waiting for Sixt. Once again when we finally reached the counter the waiting line was long. More than 80 min to pick up the car in total...

The customer service isn't exceptional, but it's adequate. This is a respectable car company, one of the few remaining in an industry often marked by dishonesty. The staff were nice and helpful. The car was nice and clean. But we did experience over 40mins of delay before the car became available.

This was the most pleasant car rental experience from start to finish. Our check in agent was so friendly and accommodating, the car was clean and easy to check in and out, and when our flight was delayed 12 hours they were so kind in extending our rental. I will preferentially rent from Sixt in the future!

Apparently they have a policy that you need to have a return flight booked 24 hours before you rent a car. I got there late in the evening, and because I didn’t already have the return trip booked, they wouldn’t rent me my car, and told me to walk to another rental car place 5 minutes away. The people I talked to there seemed to despise their job. Will never try and rent here again.

The car was not cleaned thoroughly when picked up. Tires were not in a great shape resulting in vibrations. Windshield was damaged at one spot. Poor instructions have been given as for the place where the car was located and how to find it. I wish the customers are better guided within the lot as to where the vehicle is located.

Tires are not inspected for the renters. Was so disappointed coz the inner parts of all tire are bald and we are traveling in the middle of summer (118 degrees). The safety of the passengers are always the concern of the company

I’m glad they were able to switch the driver name after we booked, I didn’t realize whoever makes the booking is automatically the driver but of course. The staff was patient and friendly. It would have been nice if they brought the car up from the parking spot. I am recovering from foot surgery and had specifically asked if they can bring up the car. No other “complaints” lol thanks team :)

They did not have a car for me even though I successfully booked it. They told me they called and left a message but I had no missed calls and no messages. They said it was because I booked the day before but they waited until I showed up the next day to tell me there were no cars. Put me in a really rough spot and were super unfriendly. I figured it out with enterprise who were so much friendlier to me.

They charged me for additional fuel at drop-off even though I refueled before dropping car off. So don’t leave without confirming with the agent the fuel level and to get a receipt. Additionally, customer service is awful; I could not even call in to complain and get assistance. They just said to fill out an online form and email my issue and they would reply in 3-5 business days. But then how can they investigate my issue? Horrible customer service when you cannot speak directly with anyone about your issue!

I had booked in advance and got a confirmed reservation for a SUV but when I went to the Hertz office in LA, the car was not available. The staff just shrugged saying a conformation does not mean the car is available. Really? What else do I need a confirmed reservation for but to make sure the desired car is really there? They gave me a car that was damaged, tank half empty, dirty, low tire pressure warning on, much to small. I had to cramp 5 people with luggage into a compact. Calling Hertz was useless, I never got a chance to talk to a real person. I had to physically drive to different locations and ask to get the right car. Finally I did, but this took the first day of vacation.

Picking up the car took over an hour despite having a reservation, the line was just wrapped around the building, and only one person was allowed inside per reservation. The issue is that everyone forgot to bring in their partners license to add them as a second driver, so they had to go back outside to get it which took a lot of extra time. I was also charged for an 1/8 of a tank of gas despite having filled the entire tank up a few blocks away. No one wanted to see our receipt for gas at all.

Pick up was terrible, long waiting line very very long, online check line was offered and when I got at the very end, it didn’t work so I had to go see a staff a counter because the online don’t always work from what I understand from the staff and it happened the exact same thing to the family we were travelling with. At counter, they were trying to sell us all kind of coverage, insurance although we declined…. We lost about 20 mins just for that when it only took 10 mins to complet the rental. But drop off was pretty smooth.

I waited in line for 3 and 1/2 hours to pick up the car I had reserved and paid for. No explanation as to why it took so long. No apology. Then when we got the car, it stunk of cigarettes and marijuana. Needless to say, I will definitely not be using Thrifty or Kayak ever again.

The wait to get our car was 2+ hours long. Car smelled like cigarettes. Paid $70 USD for a full tank of gas and only got it about 3/4 full (I have a picture). The insurance coverage part was confusing as there was not really any info re- coverage while I was booking the car online, so it was a bit of a shock to have to pay over $400 USD the day of just for car insurance. I would have looked at other car rentals if I had known. Would not recommend and will not be using NU Car Rentals for further trips.

Scheduled to pick up car at 6:00 pm. I checked in on the app to avoid lines. I took a picture of my driver’s license and uploaded it and then waited. The app kept telling me to wait and it refreshed every 15 minutes. I eventually asked a Dollar employee about the app and was told to get in line because the app didn’t work. I waited in line for another hour to check in. Then waited until about 9:45 pm when my name was called for a car. I went to the spot for the car and the car wasn’t there. I came back in and told them the spot was empty where they told me there was a car. I had to wait another 15 to 20 minutes to finally get my vehicle which, as it turns out, wasn’t the vehicle I requested. It was smaller and therefore hard to fit everyone’s luggage in. It also had spots all over the seats.

Im sooo disapointed ON kayak, not ACE. Kayak didnt tell about the taxes that i will hacve to pay on site. So the price was double the amount. I WILL NEVER RENT from kayak again !

I booked through Expedia for a rental from 8/31 through 9/3, though I ended up returning a day early. I was in LAX to see some friends and rented a car to be able to drive us around. I’m cc’ing a friend I was traveling with who was with me during the check in process and can confirm what I’m saying here. The check in process took forever, everything was moving very slowly and when I finally got to the front of the line I had to speak with someone via zoom. I specifically explained I didn’t want any accident coverage as I have coverage through my credit card. At the end of the process I was told I would have a choice of a few cars to pick from. The associate I was traveling with and I were handed one set of keys and shown one car, and as soon as we opened the door we were greeted with a strong smell of weed. At this point we were running late and I didn’t want to get back in line, so I decided I would mention it to one of the people doing the inspection before driving off the lot. I don’t know the name of the person I spoke with, but as he was walking around taking photos I asked him to smell the car and note that it smelled like someone had smoked weed in it. He said they had tried to bleach the smell out but they had been unsuccessful and assured me I wouldn’t be charged extra for it. I took this to mean I was safe to drive off the lot. The car itself was fine, but everyone who rode in it commented on the horrible smell. I am a non smoker, was the only driver of the vehicle, and never gave the keys to anyone else. Nobody smoked in the car the entire time I had it. When I returned the car, I mentioned the smell again to the associate doing the return inspection, and said I had asked somebody to note it when I dropped the car off. After doing the inspection they said I was good to go and would get my deposit back in 5-8 business days or something like that. I was not provided with a receipt or notified there would be any charge. So after a week, I reached out to an agent online to ask for a receipt, and was shocked to see that there was a $250 smoking fee, and some other charges for a reimbursement liability waiver and accident effects coverage. These were never explained to me during check in. I am in the process of trying to get some of these fees reversed. This is honestly one of the worst car rental experiences I’ve had, and unless this is resolved I will never rent from Ace again.

This place is confusing to get to and you will be waiting an eternity standing in line in order to get your car. I was also upcharged after I dropped the car off by $100 and I don't know why. The people were nice enough but honestly, spend the extra money for one of the bigger brands and avoid the hassle.

Horrible!!! I ended up playing 3 times more than i supposed to. Insurance paid thru Kayak was invalid, so instead of paying $296 + $80 CAD I ended up paying $596 US + $80 CAD. The car was the worst car I ever rented. 5 years old with almost 60k miles. With broken front bumper, missing dash went panels, broken front collision sensor, broken rear parking sensors, dings and scratches all over body. Gas tank supposed to be full, but it wasn’t. Pickup location requires two separate shuttles with 30 minutes wait time for each. Overall, I was scammed by Kayak, Economy car rental and Insurance provider.

I had called in a couple of times to clarify drop off and shuttle times and was told the location was closed until 5am. So I dropped my party off at the airport for 4:15am then went back to wait at the rental car location to return the vehicle. Because of timing I pre booked an Uber car to pick me up at 5:20 to hopefully get me back to the airport in time for my 7am flight. To my surprise the rental car location drop off was actually open despite what I was told on the phone. So I was able to return the car and get on a shuttle before 5am. So I ended up cancelling my Uber and paying a cancellation fee. The stress of trying to ensure vehicle return, getting to my flight and then wasting money to book an Uber because of bad information over the phone is annoying.

FOX caused me so many porblems of my driver license issue. It ended up they jacked up the price of 3 days rental to 600 USD and convint me to purchase the rental. Eventually I walked to the next door , THRIFTY, and Thrifty didn’t give me any problem. They also offer me a decent deal. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH FOX AGAIN

San Diego dropoff was quick and convenient—the exact opposite of pick up at LAX which was horrible

Cons:

Desk agent and signing in on a tiny screen made for it to be easy to charge me for insurance I didn’t want or need. Car had only. been quick cleaned so windows needed help and there was stuff on the back seats

Communication is a real problem for this company. They don’t answer their phone or return calls. I tried multiple times over a two day period. Their “Live Chat” option online is apparently un-manned. Never got a response. Dropoff was a nightmare for me.

The worst experience I have ever had, when we arrived at 4pm they were already closed, I called customer service and they couldn't resolve anything, I had to rent a car somewhere else and when I go the next day to pick up the car I had rented they told me They had canceled my reservation and were sold out. There were 2 other guests in front of me upon arrival so i expected a bit of a wait as there was only one person who was at the terminal to assist with the rentals. Once it was my turn i realized that the older woman who was helping guests was very slow and very rude. I would have waited for someone else had ANYONE else been available. The lady did not have the vehicle i requested so i had no choice but to take a smaller vehicle. I was not happy with that but she made it worse that she was unsympathetic and just rude overall. When i dropped off the vehicle, the woman that helped me was very nice and polite so not all employees are rude; just the older woman.

Great little rental c company. They have good prices, clean vehicles, and the staff was amazing. When I got there they said I'd have to pay an extra $13/day for California's liability insurance but it's not actually extra, as kayak includes that in the prices they show you when you first search.
