    Broke Down, Lied To, Given Run-Around
    Pros: The SECOND car we received was clean, worked well, and was reliable.
    Cons: I will never rent from Hertz again, ever. The rental agent we first spoke to lied about lower tier cars not having Bluetooth to try and force us into a paid upgrade. Our first car broke down minutes after leaving Hertz, leaving us stranded on the side of the road for an hour and a half. The first 30 minutes of that was just waiting on hold and being hung up on with roadside assistance. We also got connected to roadside assistance for the WRONG COMPANY before needing to dial back in a second time. After being towed, the customer service rep eventually comped us an upgrade, but it didn't seem like he was going to until we talked to him for a while. Then, the drop-off location was mistakenly set for the wrong Hertz location (an hour away from our airport) and the only way we were told we could change it was to pay a $200 fee FOR NOTHING. So instead of doing that, we got up at 4 AM on the last day of our vacation to drive an hour to the correct location, only to find that they had no after hours dropoff and we would not be able to return it there until 7:30 AM, when our flight left at 8:30 AM an hour away. We took it back to the same location we got it from near LAX expecting to be slapped with an obscene fee but having no choice in order to make our flight. Customer service over the phone was again not helpful and redirected us back to the automated answering system instead of transferring to anyone who could help like she said she was doing. The check-in agent at dropoff was the first truly considerate person we spoke with and we left the car there with a signed receipt, hoping that a mystery charge would not appear on our credit card later. When it did come through it was for nearly twice the overage (past my reservation charge) that I was expecting, but I was so happy not to have a multi-hundred dollar drop-off charge that I don't even want to dispute the extra unplanned $20. Dealing with Hertz was the most stressful, impersonal, and dissatisfying customer experience I have ever had, and I include dealing with TSA later the same day in that assessment. I will NEVER rent from Hertz again.

    Be careful where you think you're renting from.
    Pros: Great service from Hertz to fix the problem created by Kayak.
    Cons: We were flying into LAX and wanted to rent a car at the airport. Unbeknownst to us, the quote from Kayak gave us a rental 10 miles away. (361 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036). We took the LAX shuttle to the airport Hertz location and found out that they had no rental for us. After conversation with the agent (Sandra- who was wonderful!) we discovered what Kayak had done. She gave us very good service and changed the reservation and made things right. So... we got great service from Hertz, but from Kayak - not so much.
