I highly recommend Riad Souafine for a place to stay if you want to stay in the Fez Medina. This is a beautifully restored riad filled with a lot of interesting artifacts, furniture and paintings. There are several lovely seating areas to rest in around the large interior courtyard and beautiful dining areas with Moroccan table cloths and and fine China. The dinners were delicious made with fresh ingredients. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had a large bathroom. From here It was easy to find your way to the main areas of the Medina. Bernard the host took excellent care of us from the beginning to the end of our stay. He was very helpful with everything and took special attention to making sure all of our guides would take good care of us. He gives us a recommendation for a Hammam and massage and it was fabulous. Also Bernard brought us a lovely box of fresh Moroccan pastries as a goodbye gift.
Bernard and his staff were welcoming, friendly and super helpful. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. A lovely hot en-suite shower too. The views from the rooftop terrace were incredible. Despite us being the only guests a lovely dinner was provided. Breakfast was amazing.
Beautiful, clean, comfortable, great location.
Not having a key to the main door was frustrating. If you do not give a key, you can't have us waiting 10 minutes outside the door at night. This happened multiple times
I enjoyed the Riad very much. It is beautifully decorated. And the owner is so kind. He helped with directions and travel and suggestions. He even helped me arrange a very early pickup to get to the train station. The staff were very nice and always had a smile on their faces. The food was great. The breakfast every morning was huge. i could never finish it all. I had dinner the first night and it was a very nice tagine. I would love to stay here again.
I wish there was a little more orientation on how to walk to the souks. Would have been great to walk down with someone initially.
