9.6 Excellent
Pros: The property was like it had been in a time warp. All like 80s style but all in immaculate condition and spotlessly clean with little sign of wear and tear !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Unit 8, upstairs, with a balcony overlooking Poverty Bay and the boardwalk. Considering that this town is where New Zealand's history began (at least to some), the town is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed walking the boardwalk and relaxing after the hairpin turns of Hy. 2 (from Okotiki to Gisborne). The unit had everything we could hope to have.... a small kitchen, a wonderful shower, a separate living and bedroom. It is a simple hotel, but clean and well-appointed. The interior feels a bit like a very nice suite on a cruise ship. Room Tip: Second floor rooms provide a better view and a private balcony. First floor is perfect for families...
Cons: The interior lighting could be better (a dimmer or a lamp with a shade).

Pros: Location was perfect, so close to town and great cafes
Cons: The bed was awful quite old and the decor was quite dated. The reception stunk of cigarette smoke not pleasant
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff.
Cons: The ONLY small thing is that I would ask for a room at the front of the property next time, the views are better and there is a very inconsiderate gym near the back that starts loud music pretty damned early in the morning, it only just gets into the room but it was enough to disturb my wife. But don't let this put you off, this is a very good quality place with great staff.

Pros: We were due to arrive late after a birthday function and Gisborne weather middle of the year is freezing. I asked the lady who checked me in to please warm the room for my Uncle/Aunt who were expected to arrive late after the 21st birthday we were attending. This, she did and I am very grateful. Both Uncle and Auntie are lucky to be alive and to have a clean, warm, comfortable and welcoming room after travelling, attending the function and having a busy weekend overall, this hotel was a godsend. The spa bath was the icing on top. Thank you.

Pros: Champers Motor Lodge was around 5 minutes drive from Gisborne town centre. It is neat looking, well maintained and welcoming. It is well signposted from the road. There was an allocated parking space for each room which is great. Welcomed in reception and given fresh milk and the WiFi password. Room was large and spacious. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was nice with a jacuzzi bath and ample toiletries and towels. Room had a full Sky package which surprised us, but it was nice to be able to watch a film in the evening.

7.9 Good
Pros: Rooms were warm & cozy having T.V in room where the beds were very enjoyable. Clean & tidy rooms
Cons: No kitchen bench or sink to clean dishes, glasses to drink out of in the bathroom toilet area? Had to get water for jug out of the bathroom tap
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We rented a 2 bedroom unit for the price that you’d generally expect for a room. The apartment was spacious, good beds, fully equipped kitchen, working heat pump. The lady at reception was very friendly and helpful. Nothing is far away in Gisbourne, but this particular motel is about a 3 minutes drive from Gladstone Rd.
Cons: Hmm, was there anything? The only thing I could say is that on-site parking is a bit limited. After out "friendly" neighbor had parked his car, we had the choice to either block the stairs or park on the road. We did the latter. In the morning I reversed in to put our bags in the boot. I don't think it would be fair to blame this very nice motel because our neighbor was a rather inconsiderate person.

7.5 Good
Pros: location
Cons: room with no view, bistro closed, hallways dreary need pictures on walls etc
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff were very helpful and kind - always appreciated when working away from home. A special thank you to the staff member who microwaved the leftovers I had luckily brought with me on the Sunday night when everything in town was closed! And really enjoyed hearing from another staff member who stopped and spent some time sharing stories about the many Gisborne people of note that are in framed portraits along the hallway walls. Very interesting local history. Thanks also to the staff member who found me a quieter room when I needed it :-)
Cons: I have an allergy to air freshener and highly scented cleaning products-- far too many products used that left a very strong lingering smell -unfortunately even with the windows open this means I have a headache for days. The Bistro on site was often closed --but the next door Irish bar is welcoming and delicious - highly recommended for evening meals.
7.5 Good
Pros: The shower had good pressure and the staff are very friendly.
Cons: The carpark was on Level 2 and I stayed in 8305. To get to the car-park was a very long walk around a very long maze just to get to it. To get from reception to Level 3 is a very long walk. There are 2 lifts but for our building was a glass lift which was quite the distance. Don't be lugging a ton of luggage. Rooms are dull and it's not homely. My actual room had no windows other than the lounge. What sucks the most is that there is no free Wi-Fi so it's not great for Data professionals who work remotely. The hotel gives you 100MB of free data.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location is awesome and next time (if there is one) we would definitely use the local restaurants downtown for all our meals. Great shower and heaps of room in the actual room. Carpark was good although it would be helpful to advise guests to park out front, unload and then go around to the carpark area. Huge room with multiple drawers overlooking the pool and nice and quiet. Interesting trek finding your room along meandering passages.
Cons: The staff need to be trained better - dead pan face/personality at front desk who needs a B12 injection of life. They know the script but not how to relate to actual people. Front desk was unattended with guests all trying to check in, a phone number was left but went unanswered. No coasters for glasses. Two narrow single beds pushed together as a double - thankfully I was the only one in this room otherwise we would have fallen out as it was so narrow, and left a ridge down the middle. Despite all the drawers in the room not a spare blanket to be found! Décor is very bland (bit like the personnel). Wouldn't use the restaurant for any meals next time; breakfast was sitting in metal dishes with no heat beneath so once onto a cold plate it pretty much remained cold. Dinner: Waitress gave us the menu then immediately asked what we would like to order. Once we had had 5 minutes to look at the menu we ordered duck - never eaten a dead duck before but they served it here! No crisp, barely brown on outside and red and cold inside. Sent it back and to be fair the chef did come out later and speak with us but still claimed he 'cooked' it appropriately. No mention of compensation. Dessert was better although something we could have bought at a nice bakery.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were amazing and I felt excellent value for money.
Cons: The main thing that lets this place down were the deadpan staff who couldn't crack a smile and spoke in scripted monotone voices. The dinner was underwhelming with our Duck undercooked and then when returned still rather average but I did appreciate the chef coming to see us and discuss. Breakfast was standard buffet but would of been nice if they had lit the burners under the urns for the hot food as mine was luke warm to cold to eat. So recommend staying but eating elsewhere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, room, pool & security
Cons: noisy people staying in the next room & waking us up
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room.
Cons: Bit of a maze to get to the lift.
6.3 Good
Pros: The hotel was clean and in a great location.
Cons: The plug in the bathroom was jammed in there, a lamp wasnt working, the heat pump wasnt working, the extractor fan in the bathroom wouldnt turn off and stayed on all night.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Rupeet was lovely at the front desk. The size of the room was good.
Cons: The property is very dated. Old ugly carpet, the grouting around the bathroom floor tiles are dirty. I felt that the staff were overly heavy handed to my sister and the group in her room - saying they had too many visitors when they’d only had one visitor the whole time etc etc. Did not enjoy the stay at the Emerald and will never stay here again!!! It’s awful and definitely not deserving of a four star rating. Thanks
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We didn't eat on site
