8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location (in a nice safe area opposite the best shopping mall in SJ), cozy rooms with comfy beds. The hotel itself has very nice facilities (restaurants with lovely food, good outside area with pool). I went there for a conference and I did really like the rooms where it took place. Most staff that I had to deal with was very friendly and nice.
Cons: Buffet breakfast (if not included in the rate) is very expensive (around $27). WiFi isn't great, it keeps disconnecting. Bathrooms do need an upgrade... while the room overall was very nice, I was quite disappointed by the bathroom. Really old and the extractor covered in dust.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities were very nice and the whole staff was fabulous. Three out of four restaurants were very good. The breakfast may have been the best hotel breakfast either of have ever had.
Cons: The Italian restaurant was really not good. Lack of care on fish and meat dishes. Unattractive playing. Expensive and we shared all of our dishes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel looks so much better in person, online pictures were nice but seeing it was stunning. Landscaping was beautiful and clean, the room was amazing, clean and smelled good
Cons: I have no dislikes
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location, parking and facilities.
Cons: Outdated bathroom fixtures and carpets
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location allows to organise more meetings in the area and avoid traffic.
Cons: There is a air flow from the entrance in the lobby that is uncomfortable. The music is going up and most rooms are noisy because of it. It would be nice to offer 1 bottle of water in the Rio
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Music in cocktail lounge and great staff in the coffee shop
Cons: Needs some refresh of carpet and paint
7.1 Good
Pros: Conveniently located right next to the Multiplaza if you feel like doing some shopping. Restaurants in the hotel are really nice.
Cons: The rooms are a tad dated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great! All natural and super good! Lobby is beautiful, as well as the room. City view was impressive
Cons: Pancakes and waffles were pre made, so not as fresh.
4.6 Okay
Pros: the bathroom was old and dirty. small room and dirty carpet
Cons: the breakfest
7.9 Good
Pros: The breakfast was very good with wide selection. The location was also very good close to a mall which was handy as the airline lost my bags and I had to source some basic items until they showed up. Staff was very friendly.
Cons: The room I was in was close to the elevator and overlooked the reception area and open bar. The live music was good but very loud. The rooms were starting to show a little age and could be maintained or renovated.

Pros: Quite and clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, modern and comfortable hotel. All the newest facilities and services. Very good breakfast in the on-site restaurant. Spot clean and comfortable rooms.
Cons: More to booking.com than to the hotel. The description of the payment method was confusing. I was told that I will be charged for one of the 2 rooms infront of the stay. Eventually I payed for both rooms on-site. It doesn't bother as itself, but a more accurate payment method will be appreciated.

Pros: A lovely colonial style hotel. We had a standard room which was small but very nicely presented and comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable. We absolutely loved the restaurant. It was extremely elegant and the staff were very helpful and made us feel very special. The food was very good and not overly expensive. We were able to leave some of our luggage with the hotel as we went on a river trip for a couple of nights which was extremely useful.
Cons: The view from out of the room faced an internal courtyard but as we were only staying for one night it really did not matter and the windows were sufficiently screened to make sure no one could look in.

Pros: I loved the staff here. They were so friendly and welcoming. The grounds were unreal, and the hiking trails are a must! The rooms had a beautiful view as well!
Cons: In the rooms we had a lot of bugs, but other than that they were great. (Mostly rows of ants in the bathroom).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed a brief visit to Xandari. Beautiful views, wonderful comfortable rooms and facilities - we loved the colorful design and the "outdoor" showers in our rooms were awesome. Great food and friendly staff. The hike to waterfalls on the property was really nice too - good exercise, nice scenery.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly people Wonderfull breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property, grounds, view, and service were all outstanding. We only stayed one night on the tail end of our trip but I wish we had a few more days there!
Cons: We ate one dinner aside from the complimentary breakfast. The restaurant is expensive and while the food presentation was fun and creative, the quality was just mediocre .
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing 'resort' type setting, very relaxed, pool was great as well as the trail walks to the waterfalls. Good food (a little pricey). The staff could not have been more helpful. It's a little trek from the airport/any amenities but worth it for a final relaxation of a holiday or the first sample of CR. Will
Cons: There is very little outside the hotel doors (without a major walk on a dodgy road or paying for a taxi) so you are restrained to the hotel grounds. Hefty uphill trek to the restaurant!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location was unbelievable. 40+ acres of landscaped grounds (including a waterfall), amazing views of the valley, and 3 pools. Their staff is so kind and accommodating and made the meals fun. Breakfast was a great variety and I appreciated the drink on arrival. It's really a beautiful place that feels eco conscious and celebrates the vibrancy of Costa Rican culture and environment. Didn't get to experience the spa, but it looked beautiful and the services offered seemed unique to Costa Rica.
Cons: The dinner prices were pretty steep. The food was delicious generally but my shrimp was a little overcooked and I would have like to see more authentic Costa Rican dishes on the menu. I barely noticed though because the view was so impressive.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was basic and healthy, the location was stunning and the grounds and facilities were amazing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Grounds are gorgeous, staff friendly.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The rooms and bathrooms were spacious. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The pools and hot springs were well maintained and relaxing.
Cons: The buffet style dinner was over-priced and the food was not that good.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Birds, staff, great rooms
Cons: Food but pricey

Pros: the staff is very attentive and dedeicated. They´ll go avobe and beyond to help you. Without a dought their best asset.

Loved the vibes here.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: We arrived very late at the hotel and only made it to the restaurant at 21:40 which was 20 minutes before the restaurant was due to close. When the staff realised that we had just arrived, having been on the road all day, they allowed use to order a proper dinner and kept the restaurant open for another 30 minutes so that we could finish our meal. The food was excellent, and the staff were lovely.
Cons: We wish we could have stayed there longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Initially booked as a hotel close to the airport but this turned into so much more. There is a lot to do in and around the hotel. The design of the hotel is very individual and the coffee is fantastic. Food in the restaurant was good for all meal times and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Cons: It would be good if the swimming pool could have been heated. It was very cold when we used it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They were not Made aware of my request via booking .com of an extra bed. When I pointed it out they immediately put one up and waved the charges
Cons: All was superb

Pros: Absolutely GORGEOUS hotel. So unique and beautiful views of the city. The staff was so kind and friendly (and spoke English). Our room was absolutely gorgeous and I loved all the architecture. The meals were so delicious and reasonably priced. Loved the little restaurant and bar too, and the view from it. This would be a great place to bring kids too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything exceeded my expectations. The food, the staff, the value and accommodations were perfect. You never had to leave the property. If you are looking for a hidden gem, this is the place!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Setting, room and grounds were all perfect. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant, and the free coffee and cookies in the afternoon was a nice touch. Very close to the airport (just a £6 Uber). Highly recommended.
Cons: Unfortunately our hot tub didn't work! The coffee tour was very interesting but we felt that for $40 each it could have offered more (e.g more tasting of the coffee itself). Otherwise very pleased.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really nice property and staff. The views from our room were amazing to wake up too!
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location, views and pool
Cons: Not a lot
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An absolut gem in the middle of nature with fantastic views over the city. Full tranquility. Very nice and comfortable rooms. Also the restaurant serves great food and the staff is very friendly. Worth the money if you have one night/day to spend instead of staying in San José city! We also did the coffee tour with Ulises which was great and worth the money too. He knows all about coffee and its much better than Britt or Doka.
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Amazing breakfast, huge gym and great facilities on general
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing gym facilities and pool
Cons: The bar food was overpriced and disgusting. Sound proofing could be improved and the pool was unsupervised
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The buffet looked wonderful, but we chose to have a Peruvian Experience in the La Isabel room. The service was great and the food delicious!
Cons: Was disappointed because our waiter forgot to place my husband’s breakfast order. We were leaving for the airport that morning so that set us behind. Unlike in the US, we had to ask for more coffee during our meal.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Free airport shuttle and access to the launch
Cons: Far from the any shopping
7.5 Good
Pros: Hotel is beautiful, close to the airport, and not too far from San Jose. I enjoyed use of the steam room, sauna and whirlpool at the spa and having access to the spa without getting a service.
Cons: Hot tub by the pool wasn’t working (no jets, lukewarm). Staff were nice but check in took an unusually long time and concierge was not helpful at all.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is gorgeous. It is a very large property with multiple nice pools and multiple restaurants. The staff was all very friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious with a Juliet balcony and large tv. The bed was comfortable. The shower had good pressure and offered a rain shower. The food at the main restaurant was good with a nice breakfast buffet.
Cons: The room only included one free breakfast, when I didn't see that information anywhere. We had to pay $28 for my husband's breakfast, which was crazy expensive. The bathroom door is a sliding farmhouse style door which was loud to close in the middle of the night, also it didn't provide lots of sound privacy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: The grounds
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The ambiance was beautiful. The room was comfortable.
Cons: There was a wedding reception in the evening and night that could be heard in the room. The bartender was not very friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean rooms, hot showers, decent breakfast. Grounds are a nice if brief distraction. 10 minute walk maximum to some of the car rental return locations. Free airport shuttle is handy too.
Cons: Not a fault of the hotel, but it's pretty big. Much bigger than I would normally stay in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was exceptional
Cons: Restaurant and services were priced high.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The front desk clerk was excetional very friendly and made us feel so welcomed
Cons: 11.80 for a mimosa is a little high priced
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful and the personnel were very corteous.
Cons: The hotel charged us for parking. The fee included free parking on premises. When I asked about the charge and showed them the confirmation email, the answer was that they charged for "valet parking" (the service). The problem was that they did not have a parking lot where we could park our car by ourselves.

7.1 Good
Pros: this is a good hotel, but certainly not a five star hotel..... - it´s a good 4 star hotel - the "Club" floors have access to a private lounge for breakfast and late afternoon early night snacks, nice... - it´s supposed to have a nice bar or lounge in the 8th floor, a good fitness and a pool, but I got a cold and never used those.... if you like that (I don't), there is a casino attached to the hotel...
Cons: the hotel is set apart from everything - unless you have a car or take transport, it is far from everything - its location is also a bit difficult to access by road, you have to do a long return.. - their cabs (I asked for a taxi and got a hotel car) was on the TOO EXPENSIVE side compared to local transport (Uber or taxi) - food in the hotel is very expensive and just OK.... - you are better off going out to eat - the hotel in in Escazú, so if your business is in San José, it can be quite far and traffic can be heavy - I have been in this hotel 3 or 4 times and the staff did not have a clue... and it´s a rather new hotel..... -
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff are super friendly & helpful. The rooms are lovely; super clean and comfortable.
Cons: I was a little disappointed by the roof top pool area. It was not as welcoming as the pictures appeared to be and the furniture was not inviting to lounge around the pool.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable all around it was a pleasant stay..
Cons: N/A

Pros: Ok so the staff is so nice but room 414 had little to no water pressure and trickle of hot water...... I asked the front to change rooms but because they were full no possible.... So sucked it up and took Luke warm shower for two days.... Manager said he would comp a dinner at hotel eatery .... Didn't happen and no one seemed to know how it would work. Bed was comfortable location is great for San Jose . My best advice to anyone staying in Costa Rica is get out of San Jose and see the countryside unless u want to be in New York meets Tijuana

Located in Heredia, Casa Familiar la Tortuga is within a 15-minute drive of Museum of Costa Rican Art and Costa Rica National Stadium (Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica). Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very welcoming owner and a wonderful spacious and clean room. Iñ
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Olga and Fernando are very friendly helpful hosts, enormous comfortable en-suite room, excellent location in centre of Heredia. This is a great base for seeing some of urban Costa Rica (after all the wonderful wildlife) as the town centre has some nice historic places and there are regular buses to San Jose and Barba. Fernando recommended I visit the local market which was taking place that Saturday morning, it was well worth visiting.
Cons: A small point, before I arrived at the house I was aware that breakfast would not be served as I checked the facilities and inclusions, so no issue there. However on the first page the property is called a 'Bed & Breakfast' and comes up under 'Bed & Breakfast' search. It would be more accurate to be classed as a Homestay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Olga and Fernando are very welcoming and generous hosts. We stayed at Casa Familiar la Tortuga for two weeks with our cat. The stay exceeded our expectations and it felt as if we were staying with family. The room is spacious and comfortable. We had great wifi for us to work. Also, you couldn't ask for a more central location in Heredia. It was easy to walk around, find places to eat, and take the buses all around the country for a day trip. If we ever need a place to stay in Heredia, Casa Familiar la Tortuga would be our first choice. Plus, I think our cat misses Olga and Fernando. - Ashley, Luis, and Optimus
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Free coffee and very friendly staff, inexpensive but familiar place to stay
Cons: The bed was a bit hard to my liking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, confortable and clean bedroom. Location was nice too, we found a cool place to eat and have beers just around the corner. Olga and her husband were super sweet and attentive. Incredible deal!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was in a wonderful location in Heredia, close to food, the park, bus stops, and near bars to go out dancing. One issue with most places is the noise and this place you almost can hear nothing at night! The owners are very nice and were friendly. Go to typico Latina on Thursday’s for young people salsa or Friday for the locals salsa!! There’s also an awesome karaoke bar right near it too that is a lot of fun.
Cons: This booking was on the more expensive end of the less than $40 per night stay, but it is worth it if you want a clean place near everything for a few nights!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very big comfortable room. Private bathroom, also very spacious. Private parking.
Cons: There is not much to do in heredia. The bed was very hard. The owner rounded up the price, so we ended up paying a bit more than it said on booking.com. I guess he did not want to get change.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and friendly host. The house is an easy walk into the centre of Heredia
Cons: Lovely coffee is offered in the mornings. Could you perhaps add a simple “continental” breakfast?
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The host was excellent at helping guests get to know and talk with each other.

Pros: Very nice hotel with beautiful and interesting interior. Staff were friendly. We didn't want to eat at the hotel restaurant so they recommended we cross the street where there are several different restaurants.
Cons: They need to clean their pool more often. We were looking forward to the pool but it was full of bugs in the afternoon. The jacuzzi was decent and so was the sauna.

6.7 Good
Pros: It's a nice hotel with good facilites and friendly staff. The dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was very yummy and of good quality. Especially the breakfast is worth it since you can order your own custom omelette and get a great choice of fruits. The check-in was also really fast >1 minute.
Cons: The room was cold and damp with no view and with really old furniture and a squeaky bed. It all looks very old and worn out. The location is not very good since you will need a car to come here. There is also not much around in the neighbourhood so you will have to dine in the hotel restaurant. My partner booked the Spa for 1.5 hours. It was good but a little bit dirty and not very clean.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice facilities. Parking included. Pool and sauna available. I felt very safe there.
Cons: I have mixed feelings with the staff. Most of them were very nice. A couple of them at the breakfast service were not very nice, it seemed like they didn’t want to cook our Omelettes. Also one of the attendants didn’t offer me a bit of a later check out, so I had to check out and leave my luggage at reception in order to go out to town. That was uncomfortable.

Pros: The rooms are beautiful and confortable with a nice terrace and view. The restaurant good and the service very professional and friendly. The pool is nice with great lounge beds.
Cons: The fitness area equipment could be improved.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel and the staff were fabulous! Beautiful and spacious room with lovely views and amazing architecture. The staff in the restaurant were professional and lovely.
Cons: The food was dreadful and overpriced. My fish was so over cooked that I couldn’t chew it- it was burned on one side and like rubber. The pumpkin soup had zero flavor despite expecting lemongrass and ginger (for a $12 small bowl of soup) every dish needed salt to bring out even the slightest flavor. The portions were extremely small for the price. For those prices we were expecting an amazing dinner. Further, the menu was meat heavy with very few choices for alternative diets such as gluten free and vegan.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was a full breakfast. Served very hot with coffee and fresh watermelon juice. The views from the dining room are also lovely. The server was so friendly. My room is super clean, peaceful and the balcony has a huge overhang so I can leave the screen doors open even when it's raining.
Cons: The entry drive is a little curvy and hard to navigate if you are driving yourself. Other than that, can't think of a thing. It was wonderful!

Pros: The hotel is beautifully placed on the hills of Santa Ana. The restaurant had quite tasty food. The furnishings and interior design of the reception area and the restaurant are quite charming. Said charm was entirely lacking in the hotel rooms however. They were clean - that’s about it. Several of the floor tiles were loose.

Pros: Restaurant and bar were fabulous. Staff was very accommodating.
Cons: Beds were hard. A little hard to find.

Cons: When arriving at the Poas the building looks a bit sad. Rooms are somewhat old-fashioned.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The view is amazing! The couple who run it are very attentive and the food was fantastic. We were travelling as a couple and only stayed the one night but would happily have stayed longer.
Cons: Perhaps the bathrooms could use a little spruce up but the couple who run it have only been there for 5 months so I imagine this is on their to do list.
