We had a luxury escape and requested single beds as we were friends traveling together. At check in I asked if the beds were single and if it was a deluxe room as per Luxury Escapes. I asked several times nut when saw the room we were allocated I did not believe it was a deluxe room and it did not have a city view. After further discussions we were moved to a deluxe room which was considerably larger and had a lovely view. The free mini bar consisted of a single small chocolate bar, one small packet of popcorn and 2 cans of Coca Cola. Again we pointed out that this was hardly a mini bar offering for 2 people. It was a delightful hotel and a glorious position but it does need to honour the Luxury Escape paid for by their clients.

Everything was beautiful. Had afternoon tea which was delicious too.

We had an issue with the A/C in the first room on the first night and the hotel moved us to another room and everything was in order there. We only had the included minibar fully stocked once during the 6-night stay and only after mentioning it to the front desk. The minibar was restocked with drinks one more time but the food items were not restocked. Not sure if the hotel only includes one restocking or if it was supposed to be restocked daily. This was included with the rate we paid, I think it was the 'deluxe' package. It's a great hotel but I would say it is more of a 4+ star hotel. It seems the A/C units need updating or repair, the faucets in the bathroom are worn from cleaning so much and our spout was loose, the wood top near the tea-making facilities was warped from prior water damage. We have stayed here 5 or 6 times now over the past few years and the TV in the bathroom has never worked, but we don't use it so it's never been a deal-breaker. It is hit or miss if you get a room with working heated towel racks and/or heated bathroom floors. We love the location, the lobby, the staff, the bar, the breakfast, the courtyard/gardens, etc. It's one of our go-to hotels to stay at when we can afford it. You won't be disappointed if you do stay here. Just make sure to mention any issues with the staff and they will do their best to get it taken care of.

Pros. Stayed in a king suite . View from the room was fantastic and the absolutely stunning at night. The room was spacious and comfortable with very nicely appointed furniture and bed. The bathroom with the heated floor was very nice surprise. Doorman was wonderfully welcoming, the bellboys were quick and helpful and the concierge was professional and always pleasant and patient.

Cons. I asked for an early check in which wasn't possible and I understood this. However, when I returned at the regular check in time, the receptionist without checking with anyone, insisted the room still wasn't ready. Had to ask for the manager, who after checking with housekeeping, found the room was ready. Receptionist was not happy at being contradicted and was less than pleasant for the rest of the check-in process. Not offered breakfast discount on check-in so would have paid substantially more if I hadn't found out about the discount by accident. Stayed two nights. Mini-fridge was not restocked the second day. Took 45 minutes to get a bucket of ice and then felt guilty for asking for it when we found out the poor guy doing room service was the only one on duty. Seems like the hotel needs to amp up the staff numbers to provide the five star service you're paying for.

Pros. Beautiful hotel in an excellent location & very historical Staff are wonderful, great breakfast & we had a room facing the Thames & the London Eye.

Cons. Nothing, all was perfect!

Anonymous, Apr. 2017

Pros. The room was very nice and quite comfortable. The staff was very attentive and accommodating.

Anonymous, Feb. 2017

Pros. Reception staff were really good, consierge was equally as good. Nice welcome, and fire in lobby. A lady in the restaurant for breakfast was very good, I think her name was Pam.

Cons. Breakfast was really not great, firstly the lady who seated us, asked if we wanted coffee and toast, then none arrived had to ask again for it, same with ordering some porridge it came 15 minutes later, but was like gruel, quite surprised that a 5 star hotel kitchen can't make porridge. Overall a little bit too structured and formal, but lacked professionalism in the restaurant.

Pros. Good service Great location

Cons. Breakfast buffet same everyday. Not much selection for 5 star luxury hotel. I stayed 13 nights and every morning same small selection of breakfast. There should be a lot more selection .

phippinger, May 2015

Pros. Location is perfect for the theater district. Staff is very friendly and accommodating indeed. Hotel is very elegant, a bit formal. Could be intimidating for a tourist from the US west.

Cons. Got a good room rate, but drinks, tea, and breakfast were as expensive as you'd expect from a 5 star central London hotel. We ended up changing our room twice -- the first time at the suggestion of the bellman, because it didn't have any view. The second room had a view but was way smaller than the other, and had no bath tub. We were moved a third time at our request and got a wonderful room (but without a river view). The staff made both moves very easy indeed.

Robert, Dec. 2014

Pros. The rooms were comfortable and we had a lovely view of the river and the lighted ferris wheel. The staff were courteous, professional, and responsive. The location is great. The concierge was quite helpful. Breakfast was great but if we had not obtained a good price including breakfast, the a la carte cost of adding on breakfast would not have been worth it. The hotel is lovely and we hope to stay there again.

Cons. For about half of our stay the hotel telephone system was not working. The sink in one of our rooms was quite high and uncomfortable for our elder and short relative.
