Mirissa hotels

Pros: Comfortable room with a short walk to the beach. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful - a choice between Western and Sri Lankan (we chose Sri Lankan) with fruit and coffee. We would have stayed here longer but property was fully booked!

Pros: Room is clean and quiet. 10 minutes walk away from main road. It is very close from the recommended kottu and rotie restaurant in lonely planet (less than 5 minutes) and they provided flash light for the way back. They recommended that we go to coconut hill which is a wonderful view point.

Pros: We loved our stay at Peacock villas. The rooms were immaculate, breakfasts brilliant, WiFi and air con very reliable - which we’re finding is a rare thing in Sri Lanka. It really is an oasis of calm and the family who run it are lovely and beyond kind. It was also closer to the beach than I imagined, as there is a shortcut down a shady track alongside a river, which makes for a lovely 5 min walk. There is also a fantastic rotti ( Dewminj’s) place just 2 mins away from the hotel which is worth checking out. They have thought of everything here to make your stay comfortable, and have helpful things like beach towels and water refilling stations. Oh and peacocks of course! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and made of a great start to our trip. Thank you peacock villas!

Pros: There are great people at Peacock Villa. Sri Lankan nature around the villa was absolutely smashing. It is great experience to see wild monkeys from your balcony in the morning :) We really loved that.

Cons: Lovely property but quite overpriced for what it is... you cannot swim in the sea on the beach and if you are not in the villas you do not have many facilities.

Pros: We stayed at Three Gables on the last day of our trip. Upon early check in, we were greeted by staff, provided with ice towels and refreshments (fresh melon juice, very tasty). Our room was modest (standard w/ ocean view), however it had everything you need, including iron with ironing board! Spotlessly clean, and bed sheets crispy clean. All toiletries (soap, shampoo, shower gel) were by Spa Ceylon, which I discovered later at the airport duty free while stocking up on these luxury ayurvedic ointments. Needless to say, the location is excellent, I believe the best on the strip. Private beach with some great views. A very short drive (2 mins) from Mirissa beach. We rented a scooter on Mirissa for just $5 a day and explored the area. Breakfast was huge, a la carte order from the available options in the menu, but we were eventually served almost everything! Now, to the unfortunate part. My husband was already feeling unwell. I suspected fever and asked Dinuka for a thermometer, but he/villa didn’t have it. Dinuka immediately offered to go and get one, which I refused as my hub was seemingly coping just a little unwell. Half an hour later, knock on the door and there is Dinuka with a brand new thermometer in his hands. He refused to take money for it, insisting this was just part of the service, even though I eventually kept it. I took the temperature and it was 104F/40C. From then on, Dinuka was our personal nurse, guide, counsellor and what not. He called the ambulance, he escorted us to the hospital when the fever wouldn’t go down, he arranged for our money to be exchanged, he spent what seemed to be 24/7 attending to all our needs, even though I know he was as attentive and committed to all other guests of the fully booked property. No doubt, he loves his job and he really falls in love with every guest, and Dinuka, we do love you back!

Cons: A little more sound insulation would be a plus, we could clearly hear our neighbors from next door.

Pros: It is a quiet, small, cozy, and beautifully designed complex of a few villas with an amazing swimming pool and a beach just a few meters away. The best place we stayed in during our trip to SriLanka.

Pros: What a place! So calm, relaxing, clean, pleasant and welcoming. All the staff were fantastic. Rooms are amazing, food is delicious, service is spot on, spa is a dream, beds are cosy! What an amazing place, you couldn’t ask for more!

Pros: My wife and I stayed at Imagine for 5 nights and it was the perfect way to end our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. The vibe is very chilled and perfect if you just want to lay around and relax. The room was very clean and spacious, and the staff were very friendly. We ate at the restaraunt 2 nights and they were really delicious meals, and the breakfasts are amazing and big. Highly recommend to anyone to stay here.

Pros: Spending three weeks in Sri Lanka and moving from hotel to hotel every one to two days, we spent two days here. Fantastic! This hotel is run by Marnix from Belgium and his customer service and attention to detail is of the best European standards. Yes, it is a small bit away from Mirissa but RS350 will get you in there in a Tuk Tuk. The Villa is located on a vast expanse of what can only be called deserted beaches which to me, more than makes up for its location. You wont go wrong with a stay here.

Pros: Everything was great. While booking we had some doubts on where to book and if the resort would meet our expectations, but Imagine managed to exceed our expectations in every aspects. The kindness and professionalism of the staff was top notch. We booked without any meal options but ended up deciding to eat at the property not only breakfasts but also dinners. With its 10 rooms, this resort is planned as a mansion with personalized service. Design of the place was also another great aspect. Every small detailed was thought through. We were extremely happy with what we received after a stay of 5 days. Wish we had more time to stay at this property. We'd definitely stay here again if we ever end up going back to Sri Lanka.

Cons: Beach in front of the hotel is in theory okay for swimming, especially due to the natural pools formed by rocks. But it did not look very inviting to us, so we ended up staying by the pool listening to the sound of waves rather than swimming in the ocean. It was, though, not an issue for us at all, and there's nothing the hotel can do about it. It's just a heads up for those who'd like to be able to swim in front of the hotel. On the other hand, Mirissa beach is only a 5 min tuktuk ride away and it's a very beautiful beach. I believe there are also some other beaches even closer but we did not visit them.

Pros: Super luxuries place with really dedicated and kind staff. Owner was there and we enjoyed a good talk. (Dutch owner) Breakfast was super nice and the setting on ocean and the gorgeous pool can’t be beaten. Good value for money. A bit of a steal actually!!

Pros: We love sour stay at Mirissa Cocoon and so did our 1 year old son! So much so that we extended our 2 night stay to 5, and everyone we spoke to had seemed to extend their stay also. The brothers who own and run this place and sweet and it’s evident they are genuinely nice guys. They welcome their guests and help them with whatever they need. Our room was extremely clean when we arrived which was so refreshing to us! The room looked brand new with modern features and a lovely bathroom. We had a family room with 2 large beds and there was enough space still for our 1 year old son to run around and play to his hearts content. The space outside the rooms with tables and chairs was lovely for breakfast time (we used the kitchen to prepare meals which was super handy!) and when it was too hot, we put a little inflatable pool for our son to splash around in out there which was fantastic! Iresh arranged a taxi for us to our next destination and was brilliant with bringing the price down for us aswell so we can’t thank him and his family enough for a wonderful stay and for being so helpful.

Pros: The staff was very helpful, nice and respectful. The room was very clean and quiet. The location was next to some excellent restaurants for affordable prices with very nice staff as well. It was out of the most touristic zone but very close to the beach or main road.

Cons: Don't expect a reception or a full service, but get more autonomy for example by an equipped kitchen free to use. In case ask the helpful and kind owners for any question.

Pros: Good location, close to beach, plenty of restaurants nearby. Lovely big clean room with very good lighting. Shared kitchen with fridge freezer which was very handy, good sitting out area, clothes line handy for drying beach wear. Family business run by two brothers, good English, very helpful with any travel arrangements and local knowledge. Would definitely stay again.

Cons: Next to a small road so a little noisy occasionally with traffic during the day, but very quiet at night, so no problem sleeping.

Cons: The location was not on a swim marble beach area thus I felt I missed out. The food was pretty disappointing considered we had paid a premium price for our stay.

Pros: Nice location directly at the beach, very friendly and helpful staff, very spacious and clean room. Due to bad weather before my arrival the cabanas and pool were out of order, but I was allowed to use the pool at the resort next door and they even would have set up a cabana just for me when I asked.

Cons: Unfortunately there was construction work going on during the whole time of my stay, but then I was there during the low season and repair has to be done at some point. So next time I‘d ask in advance if they‘re planning to do any repairs during that time period.

Pros: Small six unit hotel on the beach with great views of ocean. Nice pool & plenty of lounge chairs. Nice bar & good restaurant; terrific meals.

Pros: The people were lovely, the lady went out of her way to help us and the owners also rented out surfboards on the beach for a good price and were very friendly. The a/c was a treat and there was hot water. It is located so close to the beach.

Pros: Location was perfect for access to a quiet “cove” beach - literally 10 seconds’ walk down the path and onto the sand. From there, Coconut Hill is barely 2 minutes’ walk along along the shoreline to the left, which FYI also has the wonderful SeaStar bar en route for catching the BEST sunsets in Mirissa. A walk along the main road to & from the main Mirissa beach requires 10-15 minutes, depending on how much local arrack and Lion beer you’ve consumed ;-). Tuk-tuks are also plentiful outside and usually cost circa Rs200 to/from central Mirissa. That being said, I would highly recommend to also discover the shoreline route to Mirissa beach, and along the way check out chilled Papa Mango and über-swanky Petti Petti oceanside restobars. So, back to the accommodation itself... Firstly, the hosts are super-nice people and very accommodating. My room was not inside the main house itself, but instead an outside room in a semi-completed outbuilding (this was actually a positive as it felt totally private). The all-in-one bathroom was extremely spacious, with a super-good water heat pump, which I’ve since come to regard as a key factor in SL :-). The bedroom itself was also super-spacious and offered the required essentials: double bed, mozzie net, ceiling fan, clothing rack, 2 tables and a chair. Universal adapter plugs aren’t also provided in-wall. Breakfast was equally basic but a solid-enough start to the day, consisting of fresh fruits, fried egg, coconut pancake/bread with butter and jams, and the ever-present Ceylon tea. All things considered, for the price paid, this place is very well worth the per-day rate for an honest & comfortable stay away from the central beach craziness of Mirissa.

Cons: Would recommend that an electrical, plug-in insect repellent unit be provided in the bedroom, as there were quite a few mosquitoes inside the room despite having consistently kept all doors & windows shut.

Cons: We booked a king room. Upon arrival, owner told us he had sold our room to a walk-in but that he had given us the “family unit” with two queen beds. However, we were told NOT to use the second bed or we would be charged double the rate. Neither bed had a backboard so it was impossible to sit up in bed. No chairs in the room. Additionally, the room was too far from the router to receive a Wi-Fi signal. Had to go downstairs to use the Wi-Fi. Disappointing.

Pros: Owner (Thusath) was very kind and helpful. For a reasonable fee he took us on a short trip to the turtle sanctuary as well as some souvenir shops on the way back. Furthermore, he made a stop in Weligama to help me buy a local SIM card and also helped us with some money exchange. Awon is so beautifully decorated and you can truly see the owner's heart and passion for what he does.

Cons: The ants started moving into the room after day 1 and there was a lizzard in the corner for the entire 2 nights stay.

Cons: The bed sheets were untidy. They have only glass walls for the room without proper curtains so we couldn't stay at comfort as the privacy has been disturbed. The bathroom water flow is also very slow with poor facilities. On the whole it did not meet the standard of OYO rooms as we expected.

Pros: Really good breakfast! Coffe is very good! Staff friendly and very helpful. Great ocean views and the Wi-Fi works well.

Pros: The staff are great, they try to help with what they have because they have limited resources. The Manager meets you, gives you advice on where to go and what to do. Gives the personal touch that is needed in a hotel. Charm of a colonial Villa that has huge potential to turn into a gem.

Cons: Rooms need to be updated, bed linen covers where coming off and quality of bed linen plus towels are not good. No TV and no Wi-Fi in the bedrooms. Some corridor lights had no bulbs and they didn't know how to operate the room safes. While staying there, the government was improving the breakwater by using Large machinery and where creating a lot of noise and smell pollution until 4.30pm. Was not notified at reservation point by booking.com or a msg from the owner. I went there for peace and quiet, not for all the noise pollution created by that machinery. Management only changed my room but got no reduction in the room tariff for the inconvenience caused. For the room tariff I paid for, I expected better. Also breakfast was nothing special.

Pros: The location is spectacular. The staff are all helpful, smiley and responsive. It's a lovely old building with a lot of character.

Cons: It would be better to have WiFi in all areas. One of us found the bed a bit hard.

Pros: Location is stunning and they do a good job maximizing its value. Shower in the room was excellent. Staff are friendly (but not overly helpful either). Free water refills was a lovely touch.

Cons: Lack of amenities in the room and bathroom. You can't charge around $80 per night and then not provide shampoo, body lotion, etc. Only a small bar of hand soap for the wash basin was provided, nothing for the shower. Also, if you don't tell them in advance, then they won't clean your room which is sometimes inconvenient if you have a busy day.

Pros: There is actually no beach in front of a hotel. The beaches to the left and to the right are however very nice and not far away. The internet is only in common area. In the common area there are sunbeds. I saw a ratsnake in the grass.

Cons: They were building a road between the beaches to the left and to the right from the hotel during our stay, so it was very loud. We had no wifi in our room. The bathroom is not very clean, there was no hot water. The room has to be renovated. The safety box was not properly working so we got the only key from it.

Pros: Charming hostel with colonial architecture and a remarkable view on Parrot Rock Bridge. Very helpful staff.

Pros: Very nice accommodations with wonderful views of the ocean. It was very close to main beach but still quiet and peaceful and a feeling of more privacy.

Pros: This mini hotel is fantastic for its price! The bed was very comfortable, the location is in a silent back yard (only 5 min to the beach), a locker for valuables in the room and a great shower. Very clean. The breakfast was top notch! Easy going manager. We liked it a lot.

Cons: It would have been nice to receive some information about the restaurant and what time breakfast is served.

Pros: We were a group of friends , 7 rooms and we had a great time at Sky garden , we stayed 3 nights for New Year's Eve . Staff was very friendly , always trying to help us . Rooms and baths were big and clean .Breakfast ok .

Pros: Close proximity to the beach, some great restaurants and shops nearby. The people running it and other staff were all very friendly and helpful. Rooftop area and individual little balconies are a bonus. Having a safe in the room was handy too. Would definately recommend.

Pros: Near to Mirissa Secret Beach and other attraction in Mirissa. Nice room with mosquito nets. ample of space for the luggages and has separate area for Coffee. They also provide driver room for free.

Pros: The rooms were great. Modern shower. 4 posted bed. Nice balcony . Breakfast would have been fabulous if not for heavy hand of salt in omelete making it inedible for me. Juice was wonderful as was fruit platter. Loved being in sky seeing birds

Cons: No cold water one day. No hot water next day. Owner pleasant but it was more hotel like than friendly place. Kids very loud Got a packed breakfast first day as we went whale watching ( don't do it in,rain). Box was filled with ants. Had to be binned. Wi-Fi didn't work in our room. Had to get new box brought up after we used our package

Pros: Staff was great. Nice garden, great location, very close to the beach.

Cons: Heard lots of noises from outside.
