Gasthaus Weingut Stahl - Oberwesel - Bedroom

9.5 Excellent (173 reviews)
C$ 135+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Gasthaus Weingut Stahl in Oberwesel, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Falkenau and Pfalzgrafenstein Castle. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast. Good parking area. Wonderful with the wine cellar with tasting of wine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best place we stayed on our trip. The family Stahl were AMAZING. We had biked/cried/climbed the monster hill to get to their place and were exhausted. They welcomed us with open arms, carried our things in, and expedited check in so that we could shower and still order food before the kitchen closed. Throughout the stay, everything was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious, fresh, and homemade. The neighborhood was beautiful, too. Highly recommend to all drivers and bikers (but only the ones more athletic than we were).
Cons: This place is built on top of a hill. When they say Rhine Valley, well, this is not the valley. This is the nice hill overlooking the valley. So, lovely bike rides down the hill. Less fun climbing back up the hill. Still, the scenery was gorgeous and I think we'd do it again, we liked it THAT much.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They served an exceptionable breakfast. The coffee was delicious and a variety of home items served. The lady gets up at 4:00 AM every morning to bake what is served and the staff treats you like Family.. Everything was amazing!
Cons: Everything was perfect!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast and dinner. Really enjoyed the wine tasting in the cellar. Many delicious wines
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great welcome, spacious rooms. But so much more important at this establishment was the food. Dinner was delicious and pleantyful. I defy anyone to attempt two courses. Breakfast was exceptional, several tables were laid out with a vast choice of food. I really couldn't do it justice after having dinner.
Cons: Perfect, no problems at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best places we have ever stayed. Very clean. Nice wine testing cellar. Sweet gentle family running the hotel. Very Good Breakfast. We are certainly coming back soon.

Pros: Nice area, clean room, nice garden/restaurant, very service-oriented staff, superb breakfast (Danke Krista)
Cons: No airco, fortunately there was a fan in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful Gasthaus. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had at a hotel. Dinners were great too and all the staff were very friendly.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved absolutely everything about our stay at Gasthaus Weingut Stahl. The location is wonderful - away from all the train noises in the villages along the Rhine. Our rooms were fantastic, and were spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were modern and well equipped. Breakfast was simply amazing, and Krista, our hostess, kept forcing us to try her home-made cakes (for breakfast!!). We ate dinner out on the deck both nights and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Paul serves his brother's wines, and encouraged us to head down to the cellar for tastings. We could not fault this hotel, and would heartily recommend it. It would be best to have a car if you are staying there however.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We were given a warm welcome and shown to a lovely large room which was very clean. The hotel is a lovely mix of old and new. The Bedroom we had was fresh and modern, while the dining room was more in line with a old traditional Farm House. The evening meal was excellent but the breakfast was exceptional. Huge variety of friut cakes savories both hot and cold. We cannot fault this guest house. full marks

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about this property- the location in Oberwesel was perfect for exploring this part of the Rhine. The hotel is just beautiful from the outside and perfectly located in the central Marktplatz. The owners make you feel so welcome and went out of their way with little extra’s like lunches and arranging a free train ticket. The room is huge with a full sitting room and a large bathroom. Bed was comfy and the room was air conditioned. Breakfast was served in the authentically maintained restaurant and included a great range of fresh breads, juices, coffee, yoghurt, cheeses and meat to go with your freshly boiled egg.
Cons: There was nothing I didn’t like but it’s worth noting that the restaurant has been closed. The owners referred us to another great place a short walk away where we had a great meal in the biergarten.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The town is stunning. The hotel is in a beautiful old building in the center of the town. Wonderful restaurant and bar open till 10pm, with outdoor seating on the cobblestone street. Our room (an apartment in an adjacent building) was clean, modern and comfortable. Car parking right outside.
Cons: The building with the apartments had no elevator. All rooms were up at least one flight of narrow stairs, ours was up two flights. For many people, this shouldn't be an issue. My wife and I both had medical mishaps the week before our trip, so this made reaching our room difficult. The hotel is used by tour groups, so there was no other room available to switch to. The main hotel building has an elevator - so try to book a room there if you need the elevator.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a peaceful area. We had a large comfortable bed and a good shower. There was a large garden equipped with sun loungers and outdoor furniture where you could relax and read after a hard day's sightseeing and enjoy the lovely view. Our hosts were very friendly and did their utmost to make us comfortable and welcome. Our host was also the chef in the restaurant, which was especially good, and we enjoyed exceptional meals here. He also spoke fluent English.
Cons: The hotel is a little way outside of Oberwesel and uphill and although you could walk down to the town you really need a car to get you back up to the hotel unless you are very fit! We did not find this a problem as we were using our car anyway to visitl the other villages on the Rhine.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: So we stayed here as a couple and also took a separate smaller room for my mother. Our mini-apartment was really fantastic, separate from the main area, we had lovely facilities, even a living room! We had a very good nights sleep. The smaller room for my mother was perfect for her needs and clean and neat. We also enjoyed being able to look at the fantastic view up to the nearby Schloss (Castle). Although we didn't venture on a walk, there was a very nice looking one that coincided with the property. The breakfast we had included with our room was also great, lots of delectable choices :)
Cons: My Mother was unfortunate in that the other guests in her part of the GasteHaus had a bit of a party together out on the porch and didn't think of other guests being affected by their slamming doors etc, but thankfully that ended eventually. And that isn't the fault of the GasteHaus itself!
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice people(Mr.and Mrs. Knab). Very friendly atmosphere. Nice suggestions for things to do.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, nice room good clean bathroom.excellent breakfast. The owners could not be nicer
Cons: WiFi is to be honest very poor, slow and intermittent.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hosts. Facilities.
7.5 Good
Cons: We tried to pay with a credit card which was not accepted by the owners. We had to go down to the village to get cash from the local bank. They should have told us that credit cards were not acceptable when we booked the rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome and friendly hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was furnished to a high standard, spacious and very clean. We had a comfortable stay that exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was plenty, tasty and always came with a little chat about the plans for the day with little suggestions from the hosts. The location is quiet with stunning views and just a short walk from St Goar. We will definitely come back!
Cons: Nothing.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is perfect. You are staying in a castle, looking across the river at two other castles. The staff were all so very nice! The included huge breakfast sitting high above and looking down on the Rhine is such an amazing way to start each morning. The hotel is perfectly located half way between northern Rhine attractions and southern Rhine attractions in this area, with a ferry crossing right there in Sankt Gore for your car to cross to the other side if needed. This is important because there are very few bridges in this area. The property is manicured amazingly with Castle Reinfels tour right there as well. If the breakfast and restaurant dinning area isn’t enough, there’s an open air terrace for dinning as well. Weight room, spa, indoor swimming pool, elevators to take you bags from your car to your room, really fast internet, interesting and beautiful nooks and crannies everywhere on the property … it’s just perfect. Highly recommend! Thank you Schloss Reinfels!
5.4 Okay

Cons: Attitude of staff on initial welcome ..there was no welcome ..felt intimidated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Location. Clean comfortable rooms. Friendly staff
5.4 Okay
Pros: Great location looking over the Rhine.
Cons: Staff were extremely rude. In particular the woman who greeted us at the Restaurant. We asked her if there was any availability for a table for two. She yelled at us ‘no!no! Not tonight we are fully booked’. Never before have I been spoken to like I was a child. After I explained we were staying there she aggressively said she had a table at 8pm. That hardly means you are fully booked. while I accept we could have booked earlier I fail to understand why check in staff didn’t not inform us of the restaurant reservation situation. There are no other places to eat at within a practical walking distance so I am not sure where these ‘thinkers’ thought we were going to eat. After being screamed at we decided we would dine elsewhere. A professional establishment would typically have handle this situation by saying politely ‘ I am sorry but we are full booked right now but if you would like to sit at the bar or come back at 8 we can provide a table for you’. In addition to the rudeness the pillows were in short supply and too soft. The rooms were not air conditioned. This isn’t acceptable for a room in that price range.
7.1 Good
Pros: The food was great. Dinner and the breakfast was in great quality.
Cons: The quality of the restaurant is very good. However I would not suggest visiting here in the high season. The kitchen was extremely busy and could get plates in reasonable time. We needed to wait an hour to get our desert after the main dishes.
7.1 Good
Pros: The best things about this hotel were the location, the amazing views, the food was excellent and the staff were very professional and so friendly.
Cons: I understand not having air conditioning in an old castle, but in 40 degree heat without even ceiling fans or electric plug in fans it was unbearable. We were not able to finish our anniversary meal because I felt so faint from heat exhaustion, instead we took the champagne bucket to the room and used the iced water with cloths to try to cool down. Unfortunately our room was full of spiders and as I have a fear of spiders this made for an extra uncomfortable night in the castle. I waited years for the opportunity to stay in this castle, but sadly was disappointed and left early the next day.

Pros: The whole hotel has been recently refurbished and is very nice. Friendly helpful reception with welcoming personal touch. A little out of town, but not too far, and great value!

Pros: Very accommodating hosts, comfortable room, air conditioning. Honor bar where we could grab drinks and snacks and charge them to our room. Good late meal in on-site restaurant. Convenient base for touring the middle Rhine Valley. A short drive or longer walk into town.
Cons: I didn’t pay close enough attention to the location when I booked and thought we were staying in the main part of town. Instead, it was maybe a mile or so away, which made it a little less convenient to go to restaurants, shopping, etc.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice.
Cons: The mattress was a bit hard.
7.9 Good
Pros: The manager Serban was terrific.exceptionally helpful . Breakfast was also superb
Cons: No problems Perhaps a bit far from town (we were on bikes) but at least no traffic noise
7.9 Good
Pros: Had a nice tiny garden we could reach from our terrace. Everything in the room was newly renovated. Vending machines with all you need. Parking lot just outside the hotel
Cons: The door and walls are absolutely not soundproof, you can hear everything little thing guests are saying in the hall way, I could even here the hydraulic system as in one room they were taking a shower. Also the beds were extremely squeaky. With every little movement you would hear a noise. So during the night I couldn’t sleep and in the morning I heard all the guests around. Needless to say I was not well rested
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent friendly staff, great breakfast.
Cons: Even though we had lovely evening meals in the locality, it would have been nice to eat in the hotel, but that's just a wish and not a necessity.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness was very good. Front desk fellow went above and beyond service for us Great breakfast for the price! Again, great service!
Cons: Signage to find the place was a problem. We took a couple of wrong turns the first time. Uphill...ugh!

Pros: Wonderful staff, great location, and an awesome breakfast! We will definitely come back again!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very pleasant reception staff, who helped me with contacting our car hire firm ( Thank you Kim ). Very good breakfast.... Excellent spacious room... note that a very busy railway line runs within 100 meters ; there is noise , but it did not affect our stay .... we would stay again. Some light sleepers might not like this, though ear plugs are provided in each room . Parking is adjacent and is easy to access. Our drive to Hahn airport was an easy 45 minute trip on the following day; Bacharach Hof was an excellent base for our last night in Germany before flying home .
Cons: See noise comment...

Pros: Clean and comfortable
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Spent some time chatting with the really lovely owner and she gave us excellent suggestions about the hiking trails. Breakfast was varied, delicious and of great quality. Everything was spotlessly clean. We would’ve used the pool had we brought the right clothing as it looked great.
Cons: Would’ve been ice to have tea/coffee making in the room, but that’s purely because I love a cuppa throughout the day.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice Hotel close to the Rhine. Very Good Buffet breakfast and very nice evening meals.
Cons: Having to leave
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The character combined with high quality of a long established family owned and run hotel. Run by owners who care. And dinner ( served in the pretty garden was excellent.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Everything was first-rate except for the wifi. The staff was friendly, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was hearty and tasty. We loved having the balcony over the stream on the north side and falling asleep to the sound of the rushing water. The house is very historic - the German national anthem was first sung here. Great location right near the walkable part of the city walls.
Cons: The wifi didn't reach up to the rooms on the 3rd floor. The shower doors were a bit old and squeaked loudly.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Family run hotel all the staff very friendly. Lovely terrace which was full of an evening for drinks and food. Ate at the restaurant food very nice. Lovely views from the top of the hill.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The views across the valley were really nice. The food in the restaurant was simple but very very good. We could not fault the staff for efficiency and politeness. Room was simple clean and comfortable.
Cons: To locate on a satnav was troublesome as according to satnav the road has no numbers.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quiet, small, family-run country hotel above the town of Oberwesel. Food and drinks excellent and the wines are from the owner's own vineyard. They also produce their own Weinbrand (=cognac). The hotel is several kilometres from Oberwesel in the hills above the Rhine. An excellent place to stay for touring the Middle Rhine. Visitors might ensure they buy a selection of the owners wines before they leave. We did!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the staff. The breakfasts were fabulous! Comfy room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff went above and beyond to interact with the kids in our group who only spoke a word or two of German. Food was excellent.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: View and dining ambiance.
Cons: No elevator. Was on 3rd floor.
6.7 Good
Pros: The rooms overlooking outside. A very decent restaurant ovelooking the river opposite the Loreley rock Great Breakfast
Cons: - It's a bit too distant from the town centre - I don't recommend it if you are without a car. it's a good 20min walk from the town centre and please note that Sankt Goar is a rather quiet town so you won;t find a taxi very easily. - Despite the location - right in front of the Loreley rock - the guest house is actually sandwiched between a rail track which mostly is used for freight and a road. The rooms at the back has to bear with the noise - a bit of a let down considering the position. - No Air-condition in rooms or inside the internal restaurant (which is used for breakfast during summer) - The younger people are english speaking but the lady covering for them during the mornings/day doesn't speak / understand a single word yet she's willing to help.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Clean
Cons: No air conditioning was super hot there were train tracks behind it and trains ran all night so loud could not sleep due to heat and noise most staff not friendly had to wait a long time for help and they knew we were waiting
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location and view
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Wonderful, helpful staff. Breakfast was good, location a bit noisy.
Cons: No lift, spiders in room from the eves, no bread at breakfast.
7.1 Good
Pros: bed comfortable, needed air con
Cons: No lift, we were on the third floor and no one to take suitcases up for us, we are not a young couple anymore.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Front River location
Cons: Noise from Railway
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast buffet. Fabulous. Big private car park. Keys to use the door at night and early morning. Small, but neat bathroom. Everything in it. Bottle of water in the room, and pod coffee machine. A dyson room cooler! Crikey! Thats expensive!
Cons: Single occupancy room; a very large bed in small room, left it feeling cramped. I would not like to take it if my husband had been with me. River view? Poetic licence on words. Yes, you do see the river, after the immediate and full viee of a construction of buildings, then over the camp site and to the side. I think its fair "River view" gives a client an expectation of a front facing room. The little mat was stained and appears shoddy. Spoilt the newness of the furniture. The large bottles of hand and hair & body wash werent just empty, but were completely dry. That's just poor house keeping. The loo seat needs tightening, as its very loose.

5.8 Okay
Pros: The location was simple to find and relatively quiet even being a trash pickup morning. The room was clean. The view was okay if looking to left of our room.
Cons: There is no AC and no fan available, but we opened the windows and let the cool evening breeze filter through the lace curtains. Breakfast was not the most varied, it was adequate compared to other hotels of this price range.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel in the middle of Bacharan, close to the river...spacious room, very clean and lovely host..Thankyou again for all, great stay!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location and the hotel owner is very, very nice and helpful.
Cons: It was very warm during our stay, but the hotel did not provide room fans. The room became very warm at night. Also, the hotel faces the main road in town. So during the warm night we had the windows opened for circulation. Then it became a question of listening to the vehicles driving by on the very loud cobbled street, or close the windows and suffer from the heat.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice room, comfortable bed, excellent location.
Cons: Breakfast a little disappointing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is at a convenient location for exploring the Rhine River area. It's located in a very quaint and quiet town.
Cons: Everything was fine.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was quite good. More food/drink choices than many of the places we stayed at. Good location in the center of Bacharach and on the main street. The hostess pointed out that we were to late to catch the train to our castles cruise departure and that we would have to drive to get there on time. She gave accurate directions on how to get to the ferry port in Bingen, which saved time and worry on our part. We would have wasted valuable time going to the train station had we not known the trains don't run every 15 minutes as they do in the larger cities.
Cons: Rooms were on the third floor. Steps were narrow and steep, a challenge for 70-plus year old seniors. We should have been offered rooms on a lower floor. The rooms were smallish and the bed was the most uncomfortable one in our month long travels in six European countries. The mattress was super soft - felt like we slept in a saddle all night! Why don't hotels invest regularly in a good nights sleep for their patrons? It's the most important reason for staying there in the first place!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Location
Cons: Old carpet. Smelly room. Smelled like bathroom.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location in Bacharach Very Good Breakfasts Clean and comfortable room
Cons: No A/C.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: extremely clean, great location, quiet, huge room for families, nice breakfast
Cons: european style comforters too hot for summer. nothing lighter in closet

Cons: Liked everything
5.4 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good, staff member drove us to the train station at no cost.
Cons: No elevator, simple, bland furniture. Noisy trains (no double-glazed windows). Clearly too expensive for what they offer. Should have been ~$70/night, not $110!

Cons: Curtains let the light in at night. For us difficult to sleep
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice big airy family room and bathroom. Lovely breakfast

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Room was a good size we had a small balcony looked over the river to the castle. Breakfast was good. The recommendation for a restaurant to have dinner the restaurant meal was delicious.
Cons: Nothing really
7.9 Good
Pros: Chose this hotel for an overnight stop on way back from holiday in Switzerland. Easy to find. Good free parking. Excellent breakfast. Had a lovely view across the river towards Sankt Goarhausen. Lovely big room. 5 mins walk from centre if Sankt Goar and plenty of decent restaurants.
Cons: Reception area was a bit cramped. Staircases and landing areas were basic and lacked character....but not a big issue for us.
7.1 Good
Pros: Able to sit out on balcony and enjoy view. Clean comfortable room. Soft towels! Good breakfast. Thank goodness for the rotating fan in the room during the heat! Free parking right out front. Can walk along the waterfront right outside the front entrance as well.
Cons: No AC during summer. Lots of stairs. Smoke from people smoking on their balconies comes into your room and hallway. Front desk not as accommodating.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly..we were late but they made arrangements for our keys..life saver
7.1 Good
Pros: The view from the balcony is Amazing and the closeness to the river, Therz an evening strolling path and all the boat jetties are only at walkable distance. The host was very helpful.
Cons: The checkin time is only until 18.00 Hrs. Also there was a punchent smell as you enter the hotel , feels like you are entering a hospital ( may be the cleaning liquid) Overall the town looked very sleepy and the people didnt look so friendly while roaming in nearby places and also in the boats that we boarded

Pros: Beautiful views of the river. Very quiet.
Cons: No a/c in our room. We were assigned a room downstairs, nice breeze though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The pleasant and courteous greeting at check-in. We were expected, made to feel welcome and everything was ready - a very efficient process. In the restaurant, Michael Turner made excellent suggestions for the wines to accompany our meal. So good in fact that we bought some bottles from the Lorenz wine shop to bring home with us! Our 'Rhine view' room was excellnt with spectacular views across the river and the terrace for pre-dinner drinks was just perfect. We couldn't have asked for any more and I would happily recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay with great views, lovely food and drink and very helpful and pleasant staff!
Cons: Nothing at all comes to mind.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very pet-friendly property, good location close to nature with great view over the Rhine river, great home-made jams for breakfast
Cons: Breakfast could be more extensive (options were a bit limited and were not always replaced when they ran out)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: View of the Rhine was wonderful. Breakfast was OK, but not amazing.
Cons: Temperature control was centrally located and could not be changed in our room.
6.3 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good. Staff was helpful.
Cons: Disappointed that the price your site had us pay was ridiculous given the price they were charging at check in. This hotel was very good at half the price. Not good given the high price we paid for the two rooms we had.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A fabulous view over the Rhine from the riverside rooms. Excellent food and wine.
