We reserved a minivan (Toyota Verso) on the Kayak website, and when we arrived at the pick-up location (Osaka Kansai Airport) we found out that the car company only stocks small cars which were not suitable for my 6 person family. This would have forced us to pay double the price just to rent two small cars. This was absurd! The car company blamed Kayak for false advertisement, since they don’t even stock minivans. We ended up canceling the reservation and just taking the bus, since it was a much cheaper option that renting two small cars. Not sure if I will ever use Kayak again due to this family vacation fiasco.Times

Pros:
Renting a car in Japan is a little adventurous, if only because one drives on the left and directions in Japanese are not so easy to follow if one doesn't speak and read that language. That is why having the rental car company switch the built-in GPS to English without extra cost and even without getting asked is a significant customer service achievement! The vehicle was ready at the appointed time, it took very little time to complete the paperwork (I had done this before, and the agent spoke just enough English for everything but to be smooth), and the return was equally unproblematic. I can highly recommend Times Car Rental.Cons:
