The building itself is quite special - and the views amazing. The challenge we had is that we didn’t get any help to arrange visits / tours of the area around Natales and the Park - which was the main purpose of the trip. I emailed twice beforehand as they have an extensive range of activities available on the website - and asked again when we got there. But the people I was put in touch with either could not help or did not respond. So that was a major disappointment. By all means visit with an organised tour - but not as independent travellers.
One of the most visually striking hotels I’ve stayed in but it’s not all vanity; the spaces throughout the hotel, from your room to the common spaces to the restaurant, imbue a sense of fresh air while also safely and comfort. Our room was superb with stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the mountains in the distance. Every room is pretty much the same so FOMO was pleasantly absent. We had just finished the o track in Torres de Paine so the large bath tub and piping hot water was a blessing. Also ample space and counter top area to sort through our gear. The restaurant was also beautiful and a great place to watch the sunset. Great selection of Chilean wines. They missed a few details you’d expect in a venue like this but overall great. The facilities were a disappointment because of their potential and anticipation. It’s located in a separate outbuilding nestled into the hill with an infinity lap pool (chlorine) and sizeable Finnish sauna in each change room. Outdoors was a hot tub and cold plunge. Pandemic protocols require you to book by 1 hour appointments so only one party uses the entire facility at once. We arrived at noon and told we could stay until 2pm. But unfortunately there was no reason to stay too long: the saunas were locked off due to COVID (not sure if this is law or a judgement call by the hotel since the 2 hour private booking would seem to make that redundant); the hot tub was “not hot enough due to the wind”. Given were there in peak summer, take this to mean it just doesn’t work ever. We did enjoy the lap pool but I couldn’t stay too long as the chlorine dried out the skin. So if sauna and hot tub are your top criteria like ours (we specifically booked here for this reason because our bodies were wreaked by the 6 day trek), look elsewhere. Despite this disappointment, we really enjoyed ourselves (I just took 3 baths per day in the room). Most important was staff made us feel completely at home.
Pros:Very interesting architecture that tries to connect the guest with the spirit/experience of Patagonia - brings the outside in. Staff at front desk and in the restaurant went over the top in trying to make us happy and comfortable.
Cons:Sometimes architecture that is interesting doesn't create spaces that are comfortable to inhabit. That was the case here. Especially with the hotel not full, the public spaces felt cavernous and eerily quiet. The furniture was cool looking but not very comfortable. And the materials in the room ended up making it look unfinished instead of modern/raw/cool. If you're looking architectural interest, this place has it. If you're looking for comfortable and cozy, this may not be for you.
Pros:Beautiful hotel. Great value. Didn't take advantage of any of the programs but looks like they had a lot of options.
Cons:So far from Torres DEl Paine. Wish this hotel was built closer to the park.
