Overview

In quaint Long Island, tourists will find an extraordinary, boutique hotel. The Paper Factory was built on the same spot of a paper factory that existed there about 100 years ago. This is an eclectic hotel that features some incredible art from local artists. Those who have stayed here feel it is more than a place to sleep; it is an experience for the mind, body, and soul. It is a 10 minutes train ride from the city, and it is just a block away from Astoria. The Paper Factory has 122 of the most stunning rooms that guests have ever seen.

The rooms feature luxurious linens, a work desk, flat-screen television, large windows for natural light, plush towels, turn down service nightly, original art and handmade furniture, Wi-Fi, in-room safe, iron, hairdryer, coffee maker, and complimentary bottles of water. Guests of the Paper Factory will love walking around the hotel to check out all of the artwork. It truly is like sleeping at an art museum when guests stay here.

Guests of the Paper Factory will want to get out and explore the city. Nearby, guests will find Broadway shows, The Highline, Central Park, the Museum of Modern Art, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Booking a room here can be difficult because it is a very popular hotel and there are very few rooms available. When guests know the time of their arrival, it is imperative that they call well in advance to get the room they want.

Summary of reviews

Guests say
Guests consistently praise the hotel's excellent location near the subway and city attractions, as well as the cleanliness of the rooms and the comfort of the beds. Many found the rooms to be spacious, especially for New York standards. While some guests appreciated the friendly and helpful staff, others experienced slow or unfriendly service. Noise issues and lack of certain amenities like breakfast or a fridge were mentioned, but overall, guests enjoyed the modern design and value for money.

Pros (+) Cool setting a little different could be really good
Cons (-) Old elevators slow and half the time out of order. Rooms small but comfortable.

Pros (+) The decor was the highlight of the stay. I was only in for a night but that didn't stop the service from giving their best.
Cons (-) I was on the first floor right on the street and I mean right on the street. The noise wasn't an issue as much as the people on the sidewalk looking right in my room. The tv didn't work. I found this out after coming home late and felt it eccentric to call to have it fixed at 2 am especially when you're only there for 1 night. Lastly, there were ants in my room. They got into some of my things and...

Pros (+) The industrial chic decor was remarkable. We felt like we were exploring and discovering as we'd take closer looks at vintage registers, a wood+leather ping pong table, or various London phonebooths. And the staff, whether at the desk, from housekeeping, or from the restaurant/bar Mundo were all kind and communicative. Our room, while not spacious, was comfortably setup/decorat ed. The quirky lamp...
Cons (-) Small details that we wished would be different: the sheets could be softer, the bathroom trashcan could be quieter/silent (it's the pedal-lid kind), and the fragrance (like cologne) in the lobby is entirely too powerful. We also wished there was something approximating room service: where our order at Mundo could be brought up to our room instead of us having to pick it up. That would've probably...

Pros (+) Got a good long term discount on the room. Nice coffee downstairs. Restaurant closed for renovations much of the time I was there, which was disappointing. Room bright and clean and comfortable. Right on top of the subway, though lots of repairs and delays when I was in town.
Cons (-) Housekeeping could have been a little more meticulous. Sometimes things weren't replaced.
