The room was lovely and comfortable with excellent bathroom facilities and firm bed. The staff were really agreeable and helpful, in spite of the booking system not giving us the room we had booked! Evening meals were lovely.
We have stayed twice now and eighteen months apart. On both occasions, the breakfast was chaotic and ill-organised. We were first in, but were served after three other tables who arrived later; coffee and toast came out in dribs and drabs and the other tables kept having to ask for various missing things. The chap serving said it was because they only had one person in the kitchen, but in fact it was fairly clear it was just disorganised. He didn't take orders as people arrived, he waited until all tables were seated then went round randomly taking the orders. Not sensible! And of course the chaotic nature of the service caused disgruntlement, not to mention how much extra work he gave himself by the inefficiency of his method. We finally left without the toast we had twice been told was 'on its way'. Seems such a shame, the food here is lovely, the staff most agreeable, BUT... it is really important to get breakfast right.
Brilliant breakfast - especially loved the black pudding
My evening meal wasn't great - the fish and chips were burnt and the mushy peas had become a solid dried mass. I didn't complain because there was a large group (24) booked in at the same time so I knew everything wouldn't be right.
Location was fine. Parking easy. Tea making facilities in room were good Bathroom and linen very good Very relaxed atmosphere Would return to stay again, as very convenient to visit friends in the area
Breakfast only started at 9am (9-10)- I had to leave by 8.15 and there was nobody about and if I had wanted even some toast or a continental, no one there to ask to provide, but they did tell me that on Sun eve. Also - if I had not offered to pay before I left for our local event on Sun evening I could have left without paying.
We loved the accommodation it's was so clean and the staff were all so welcoming in showing us to our room and telling us about the facilities. The breakfast in the morning was great and and the atmosphere was lovely and calm.
Staff, breakfast, location.
Booked rm with double and single. Got double no single. With my sister! To be fair this was initial circumstance as they put my sister in another rm, no charge. Thankfully not fully booked. No fridge in rm. Would be handy in 30 degrees especially if you have kids. Dinner, steak and chips absolutely dreadful. Could only taste salt and lots of it. If the “Chef” had left chips in fryer for 10 secs more they would have been cremated. Lack of fire instructions apart from the common sense ones like get out! Fire alarm went off 0600hrs. No owner or staff available. Dialled 999. Things could have been a lot worse!!!
