THE US GRANT is set amidst the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, and it is part of the luxury collection of Marriott hotels. Guests can count on superb service as well as upscale amenities because the property has been providing them for over 100 years. The hotel is considered an iconic part of the city, and it gives guests a truly luxurious place to stay with nine-foot ceilings and decorative crown molding.

The sophisticated rooms and suites have luxuriant bedding, flat-screen TV, refrigerators, and large working desks. Complimentary WiFi is provided for guest use. Plus, the bathrooms contain marble walk-in showers and soaking tubs. Guests can choose from a single queen, single king, or double queen room. Plus, there are several different suite sizes to choose from as well including the Ulysses Suite, the Penthouse Suite, and the Presidential Suite.

The Spa Suite offers relaxation and de-stressing for visitors to THE US GRANT. The Spa Suite is located on the eighth floor, and the hotel can create a custom spa experience for guests Monday thru Friday. The fitness center is open 24 hours per day and includes cardio equipment and free weights. Guests can order from room service 24 hours per day. Plus, there are three dining options: Grant Grill, Grant Grill Lounge, and the Rendezvous Bar. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner can all be enjoyed without ever leaving the property.

The local area is full of attractions. Guests can enjoy Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Petco Park with just a short drive.

Pros (+) The historic hotel was clean and the staff was courteous. Rooms were a fair size and had all the amenities that I would want in a luxury hotel. The lobby was comfortable for getting caught up on email (and had a great cup of coffee in the morning). As mentioned in the title, I have never had such a comfortable bed and wish I could take it home with me.
Cons (-) The hotel cannot control this, but the area is filled with homeless and panhandlers that made it uncomfortable to walk to the Gaslamp district or Midway museum (it's worse on 4th Street). Next time we will likely stay close to the waterfront where the problem seems to be lessened.

Cons (-) Snooty front desk clerk: I was staying 2 nights on SPG points, an SPG Gold member. Took advantage of early check in and 4pm checkout - that was great. Front desk clerk says: "Sorry can't upgrade you at checkin." And I say, if I didn't check in until after my day's activities after 6pm, could I get an upgrade?" response: "No". Pros (+) Enjoyed our stay with our 5 yr old. Very courteous staff, local amenities, and close Seaport Village and other site seeing entertainment. Now a favorite, will definitely stay again in the near future.
