The Kimpton Buchanan aims to create more of a nest than a hotel room. Because the hotel is situated where Japantown, The Fillmore, and Pacific Heights meet, the Kimpton Buchanan combines all of those designs to create a unique experience. Featuring European linens and a “Zen meets Barbary Coast” design with Japanese art sprinkled in, guests will find their room is cozy yet functional with a connected workstation in every room. Pros (+) Went to the front desk to ask for plates and cutlery for a birthday cake I had picked up for my girlfriend. Mind you, this was during the complementary wine/sake happy hour in the lobby. She said she could get that together for me, and returned to us sipping sake with plates, flatware, birthday wishes and a bottle of Champagne!! That's hospitality. Thank you all.

Cons (-) need more space for personal items and better lighting in bathroom
Pros (+) The newly renovated rooms are nice, large, and clean, but the lack of hot water (with no notice) was unacceptable.
Cons (-) Despite calling ahead to ask whether we would be affected by the ongoing renovations at the Buchanan, and being assured we would not notice a thing, we had no hot water during our stay. We weren't informed that the hot water had been shut off until the morning after we had checked in, after two unsuccessful attempts at a shower.
