Everything. Location, size , staff etc
Some of the staff were very welcoming, some seemed like they didn't want to be there. I loved the style/decor of the hotel.
After checking in and heading to our room we realized it was a different room than we had booked. We decided to pay a little extra for a balcony room since it was our first vacation together and we thought it would be a bit nicer. I went down to the front desk to discuss this concern and he said they had overbooked and they couldn't refund the price difference since it was done on booking.com. I was more upset that it wasn't mentioned up front. If we never said anything we would be paying more. They said they would take care of our parking for our stay and would move us the next day. I was upset that nothing was said upon checking in but I was okay with the resolution. The construction was a huge disruptions as well. However, I realize that it is a big city and that is out of the hotels control. Lastly, when checking out they ended up charging the original price and didn't include the deduction for parking. Seeing as it was our first vacation and a city I was excited to share with my partner (I lived in SF for 6 years), I was upset that we had to relocate, that the hotel messed up our reservation and nothing was said about it, had to move rooms, construction was unpleasant, and if I didn't ask questions we would have been taken advantage of. We decided to pay a little more for accommodations and in doing so expected excellent service and a seamless, enjoyable hotel experience.
Good location if you like Japanese food. Free wine and sake every evening.
The carpet together with the shower area are relatively dirty when we arrive. Overall room looks tired compared to the picture.
You can choose between hard and soft towels. Small but really nice detail.
This is extremely nitpicking but I would like the rooms to smell a bit nicer. (:
1. Location - Japan town is awesome and convenient to get to all the tourist hotspots. 2. Cleanliness 3. The staff were brilliant and friendly.
1. Given the cost of the room I would’ve hoped for free/or cheap parking rather than $40 per night. 2. Very noisy air conditioning unit.
San Francisco is a beautiful city with a mixture of all kinds of cultures and things to do. No hotel highlights this better than the Kimpton Buchanan.
The Kimpton Buchanan aims to create more of a nest than a hotel room. Because the hotel is situated where Japantown, The Fillmore, and Pacific Heights meet, the Kimpton Buchanan combines all of those designs to create a unique experience. Featuring European linens and a “Zen meets Barbary Coast” design with Japanese art sprinkled in, guests will find their room is cozy yet functional with a connected workstation in every room. All rooms come with an LCD flat screen television with HD channels and some rooms come with mini-fridges and Keurig coffee makers.
The Kimpton Buchanan sits next eating destinations that would make any foodie jealous. With restaurants like 1300 on Fillmore serving up Southern comforts and Dosa offering Indian cuisine with a California spin, palettes won’t ever be bored. And of course, guests will be able to find delicious, authentic Japanese food in nearby Japantown. There’s something for everyone within a short walk of the hotel.
The Kimpton is pet friendly and has a well-equipped fitness center. However, the star is their in-room spa treatments that feature everything from massages to facials to hand and foot treatments. After a long day looking through the nearby boutiques with unique oddities and live music venues, guests will be begging for the full body treatment. Other amenities include free high speed WiFi, dry cleaning, and meeting rooms.
