Pros: Lovely calm decor, very comfortable bed. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Incredible cooked breakfast. A beautiful walk into town but maybe too far if walking is not your thing.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a friendly, well run hotel and all I needed for a stop over visit. Food was good and a selection offered to suit most tastes. I was visiting friends and accordingly the location was not important. If someone wanted to be near the sea it was a 20/25 minute walk. Parking was adequate on site.
Cons: For my needs, very little. The road immediately outside could be a bit of a rat run and care was needed to enter and especially exit. However, not beyond most peoples capability I'm sure.

6.0 Good
Pros: The breakfast. We ordered our cooked breakfast. A short while later another couple came in and sat near to our table. - they ordered their cooked breakfast. Possibly 10 minutes later their breakfast was delivered. We waited for several more minutes then asked our waiter where our breakfast was ? He said there was a queue in the kitchen. A queue? As far as we could see the people in the dining room had either finished their breakfasts, or were eating their breakfast. We were then approached by the head waiter who proceeded to give us several pathetic excuses as to the lateness of our breakfast.
Cons: See above - and also there were no coffee or tea facilities - not even a hair dryer in the room !

Pros: Great place and great people
Cons: All very good

Pros: Ask for the church view room with an amazing bed
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, overlooking a church and grounds, a beautiful little hamlet. As it was a public house people may think it would be noisy, but it wasn’t. They also catered for dogs which I think is unusual. The owners couldn’t be nicer, they have made a lot of improvements to the old red lion
Cons: The only thing I could say was weird, was “ I could touch the ceiling in our room” , but we are quite tall.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quaint room clean with fab views. Very friendly hosts . Great breakfast. Would recommend for a nice weekend . Very quiet village , if you enjoy walks then ideal location. If you want a bit more then you definately need a car.
Cons: Not a problem to my husband or myself as we are both " hobbit size " and we loved the character but the room we stayed in would be no good to anyone taller than 6 ft. Definately stay but ask for a room to accomodate your height.

Pros: Lovely place to stay. The owners and their family were so welcoming and lovely. We will defo be back. Atmosphere in the evenings was great.

Pros: The staff were super friendly and the little extra touches in the room were lovely. The bed was comfy and room spacious. I’d definitely stay here again if we were in area!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location excellent and staff very helpful
Cons: The bed/duvet was very hot at night and the room was too hot even with the radiator turned off. We upgraded to a bigger room/bed because the double bed in the standard room was only 4'6"
6.5 Good
Pros: The breakfasts were very nice. But we were disappointed with the dinners. Our room was really rather small for the price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, the breakfast was excellent, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. It was Christmas and the decorations were beautiful. The facilities in their sister hotel which had Spa, Swimming pool, and putting green were available if we had had time to use them!
Cons: Having to have dinner in the Victoria Hotel. Unfortunately the Belmont had a big function in their dining room, and although they kindly chauffeured us to the Victoria (even though it wasn't far) and the food was okay there, we didn't think much of the Victoria's restaurant service - although, to be fair, they did compensate with a reduction in the bill after my husband complained.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Plenty of friendly staff. Room was of good size with a view one a cricket pitch. Very comfy lounge and restaurant was excellent. Location could not have been better only a short stroll from the town centre. (Plenty of free parking as well!)
Cons: Having to go home!

Pros: The room was fantastic
Cons: Food was only served till 8:30 and room service didn’t do hot food

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Having cycled 145 miles from Reading (on route to Penzance) I received a quizzical look when I wheeled my bike to reception. I have never been to Sidmouth before and it truly belongs in the UK's national archives, having appeared not to have moved on from the 1980's (no bad thing..). Hotel extremely accommodating to all my strange requests and the breakfast experience was more akin to the The Dorchester Hotel London. Waist-coated waiters, silver tea pots and beautifully presented, hand delivered sliced melon. Thanks all

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly, they upgraded my room, excellent breakfast, very helpful reception and staff
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was beautiful and the building was quite attractive, although the hotel would benefit from money being spent to bring it into the 21st century.
Cons: Very uncomfortable beds and very short. Our night's sleep was ruined as the springs could be felt under the sheets and our feet hung out over the end of the bed (we are both 5" 9' so not that tall). So bad that we will not stay there again despite having family in the area. Also, when we came down for breakfast, the stench of smoked fish was so overpowering that we had to eat in the bar next door. The full English breakfast was greasy, and also smelt of fish and was left mostly uneaten by everyone in the family.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All. extremely friendly can't do enough for you very welcoming super room great location lovely food. What more would you want? Many thanks for a lovely stay
Cons: Nothing

The Drawing room is fabulous! Great location and extremely restful, which was what we were particularly looking for. We will definitely return as soon as we can.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The single room was small but perfectly formed. The staff were really helpful and attentive
Cons: The music on the Thursday night it was too loud. The plates at meal times were whipped away a little too quick.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location Breakfast Staff Convenience for what I needed in the town centre
Cons: Advertised "sea view" was not quite as I expected, but, yes, I could see the sea diagonally. Far too many pillows on the bed - and what's the stupid sash on the end for? The first thing I did in the room was remove the sash and find somewhere to put the pile of pillows out of the way. Shower was too small - but then I suppose I'm quite big! Room was far too hot at first - but fortunately the window opened for fresh air.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The friendly and down-to-earth staff are the strength of this hotel. Quite delightful.
Cons: The rooms are quite small (I was in a single) and the shower cubicle is very poky. Larger guests may struggle.

Pros: We were met by a welcoming lady who gave our dog a treat. The room had a lovely sea view even though it was from the side of the hotel. The staff were all very friendly, and as my autistic daughter didn’t want to leave the room, they kindly left fresh towels and complimentary biscuits, etc outside the door. The dog treats, poo bags and dog towel were a nice surprise.Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and good service. The walk in shower was lovely!
Cons: My daughter found the floor uneven in places and the tv small, with limited channels. The towel rail was very hot.

Pros: Excellent choice. All tastes catered for.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely sea view from our room at the front. Freshly cooked breakfast was much better than a buffet style.
Cons: No furniture on the balcony. Other residents not shutting the lift door properly so it couldn’t work.

Cons: Breakfast buffet was lovely, but the cooked element was not!

Pros: A lovely comfortable cosy place to stay, rooms are nice, everything you need. We had a free upgrade on one of our rooms which was a pleasant surprise. Lovely view of the seafront. Food in this place is incredible! It’s why we keep coming back. Can’t recommend it enough and the staff are so friendly and helpful, just a lovely place to be.
Cons: No coffee machine in our room (but one in our parents room) only a minor thing but not really a problem.

Pros: Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely sea view from our room at the front. Freshly cooked breakfast was much better than a buffet style.
Cons: No furniture on the balcony. Other residents not shutting the lift door properly so it couldn’t work.

Pros: Excellent location and view
Cons: Breakfast buffet was lovely, but the cooked element was not!

Pros: The dinner and breakfast were both very good and tasty. We had treatments and were looked after very well by the spa ladies - thank you. Amazing sea views from our balcony - glorious and worth the upgrade price. The decor of the lounge area was very pleasing, lots of comfortable seats.
Cons: Parking is a limited but there is another car park across the road. Breakfast and the evening meal service were a little slow but it was very close to Christmas with a large party going on in another area of the hotel and lots of guests. Check-out was a little slow, quite a few people waiting to speak to Reception or checking-out.
