The view from the hotel over Lake Maggiore was exceptional, and whilst the island had its charms it seemed to be better to visit rather than stay.
You can’t judge the hotel without judging the island. The last public ferry was at 19:10 and after this time the only option was a (more expensive) private taxi boat. But returning at 19:10 presented its own difficulties as most of the bars, restaurants and virtually all the shops were closed at this time (even though it was only early September). On the first night we had a choice of just 3 restaurants, on the second 2. The restaurants were also more ‘high end’ and appeared to be catering for commercially organised groups on ‘island trips’. This was not ‘get away from it all quiet’ but simply ‘dead’. Essentially, once you were on the island you realised you really wanted to be back on the mainland with all the choice and general ‘buzz’ it offered.
Amazing view on Isola Bella Palace. Staying there was a good way to enjoy the island at the end of the day when there is almost no one left.
Location and the room.
Everything was very good.
Great location on the island and hotel large room with lots of character with lovely old furniture. Great view from balcony.
Island rather full during day but not many people left after the last boat leaves. So worthwhile staying over night.
Maria really nicely took care of us; the English breakfeast was exceptional!
Set on Fisherman's Island in Lake Maggiore, a few minutes by boat from Stresa, Villa Toscanini is a few steps from the seafront and offers lake-view rooms. Each room is named after one of the favourite composers of Master Toscanini, who loved to relax here. An Italian-style breakfast is available daily, it includes a croissant and hot or cold beverages. Several restaurants and bars specialising in local cuisine are available nearby. The rooms feature a private bathroom with bath or shower and are furnished in a classic style with antique furniture. Every 30 minutes there are ferry links from Stresa and Baveno, starting from 08:00. The last boat runs from Stresa at 19:10 and from Baveno at 18:45.
