The bed was surprisingly comfortable
The room was very outdated and smelled musty. We had to sleep with the sliding glass door open to air out the room. Manageable but not what I would have expected.

Good option for a 1 night stay
Stayed in the Lodge, which was convenient for the wedding event held at the Publick House. The wedding itself and the main Inn were beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed the night. Staff, food, venue were all great. Also appreciated the fact that pets are welcome in the lodge.
The lodge accomodations definitely need updating. The bed was uncomfortable, the carpet and wallpaper were very aged and even the television looked like it was on its last leg. One of the outlets in the room pulled out of the wall when I unplugged from it. The dividers separating the access on the balcony do not go all the way to the floor, leaving about 12” of space exposed which did not leave me feeling secure as small pets, children or even an adult could move underneath if they wanted. On one side that also exposed a straight drop off to the 1st floor that seemed exceptionally unsafe for pets and small children. One of the rooms in the building we stayed in had a broken lock and the door was strapped closed, adding to the “no tell motel” atmosphere. The nightly room rate certainly included a premium for the proximity to the main house because the room itself left a lot to be desired.

About
Overview
The Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, where good food comes out of our Yankee ovens and warm hospitality greets every guest.Ebenezer Crafts opened the Inn in 1771 as a gathering place for citizens of Sturbridge and weary travelers along the Boston Post Road. In 1923, the property was purchased as a boarding house for women and renamed The Elms. During the 1940's, then owner, Richard Paige, leased the property to the US Army as a post for soldiers en route for training. The Publick House, during this time, moved across the common to a large white house. Not one day has been missed in providing good hospitality in over 230 years.Since 1771, Publick House Inn has been the lodging and dining hub for esteemed visitors, from George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and General Lafayette to present day travelers, such as actors Bill Murray, Susan St. James and John Travolta. Today, the old world spirit continues welcoming guests with open hearths and Yankee hospitality. The dining room features an indulging array of duck, lamb, lobster, and other specialty meat and seafood dishes, including a traditional Thanksgiving fare available all year long.
