Car hire at Lajes Airport

If you'd like to rent a car at Lajes Intl Airport, you can choose to partner with various car rental operators located right at the flight hub. Alternatively, you can compare prices from other companies located downtown or in the nearby neighborhoods. These companies may not have counters right at the airport terminal but have offices nearby and are likely to provide vehicles at a cheaper fee.

Anyone planning a car rental at Lajes Airport must be 18 years and above and licensed to drive. However, a higher minimum age is required for specific car types and models. Additionally, you'll need to show a credit card with sufficient funds to cover the car rental contract. A passport or national ID is also required. Any other individual apart from the credit card owner who will drive the car will be regarded as an additional driver. Therefore, they must also have a valid, government-issued driver's license.

The design and model of the car you rent at the airport depend on your travel needs. Considering the proximity of the airport to the two major municipalities, Praia da Vitória and Angra do Heroísmo, you won't need to drive long distances, and that's why renting a standard economy class makes sense when visiting Terceira Island. Besides, the cities cover a few hundred square miles, which means most attractions are closely located. However, if you are planning an out-of-town trip, an AWD or 4WD SUV would be a better option. A luxury coupe or convertible will be a good choice for attending meetings and parties in the city.

On average a rental car at Lajes airport costs C$ 49 per day.

Car rental companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Lajes airport to off-airport locations include Autatlantis, and Ilha Verde.
