Located at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula on the edge of the sparkling clear waters of Georgian Bay, Tobermory is the freshwater scuba diving capital of the world. There are 22 shipwrecks in nearby Fathom Five National Marine Park, all of which attract divers from around the world. There are 22 shipwrecks in nearby Fathom Five National Marine Park, all of which attract divers from around the world. But the outstanding scuba diving is not what I like best about “the Tub”, as it’s locally known. I’ve always been better on land than on water and I love the natural beauty of this area – thick forests, pristine beaches, hiking trails, wetlands and Bruce Peninsula National Park. It’s also the starting point for the Bruce Trail, one of Canada’s oldest and longest walking trails that stretches from Tobermory all the way to Niagara. There’s a lot to love about the Tub and there are many boutique accommodations in and around this small Ontario community. Here are my picks for the 10 best hotels in Tobermory.

I could sit on the outdoor deck of this lovely adults-only B&B and gaze out at the views of Georgian Bay and Fathom Five National Marine Park all day. One of the things I love about this place is how private it feels. There are two rooms and a shared guest common area, but they use a private check-in and checkout system, so you feel like you have it all to yourself.

Breakfast is made to order, beautifully presented and delivered to your room each morning. All rooms have air conditioning, a fridge, a flat-screen TV with streaming services and a large ensuite bathroom.

This is one of the best hotels in Tobermory if you want to be on the waterfront. It has plenty of great amenities too, including an outdoor fireplace, a picnic area and an electric vehicle charging station.

Evo Luxury Waterfront Adults Only B&B is the sister property to Stone Cove B&B, located right next door. It opened in 2023 as one of the newest hotels in Tobermory.

There are two guest suites – one on the upper floor and one on the lower floor. Each suite has a fireplace, a flat-screen television, a fridge, and a private ensuite bathroom. The guest common area, meanwhile, features a microwave, a fridge, and a lounge area with a table for dining.

Like its sister property, I love the views from the balcony on the upper floor and the hammock on the ground floor. You can’t get closer to Fathom Five National Marine Park than here. I’m also a big fan of the made-to-order breakfast that’s delivered each morning. If breakfast is your favourite meal of the day, this is a great place to stay.

It’s hard to say what I like best about this place – the location or the homemade breakfast. This lovely B&B sits right in front of a shallow cove on Lake Huron. It’s the perfect place for kayaking and canoeing, and there are both kayaks and canoes available for guests to use.

There’s also a floating dock and a fire pit with comfy chairs, which is a great spot to sit out and admire the beautiful night sky. The northern Bruce Peninsula is famous for its dark skies and is home to two designated Dark Sky Preserves.

The B&B has two comfy rooms with a shared bathroom. There’s also a sofa bed in the living room for larger groups who want to rent the entire space. The delectable breakfast and the prime location are what make this one of the best hotels in Tobermory.

This lovely B&B is tucked away in the woods, far enough from downtown to be peaceful but close enough to walk to restaurants and shops. The location is what I like best about this boutique property and what makes it one of the best hotels in Tobermory.

The other thing I really like about this B&B is the wonderful homemade breakfast, including freshly made quiche, hot muffins, yogurt, and fresh fruit. Before or after breakfast, you can enjoy tea or coffee on the balcony and watch the birds fluttering around the bird feeders.

Top tip: If you’re looking for a great lunch spot, take the three-minute drive or the 20-minute walk to the Hungry Hiker food truck. There you’ll find great sandwiches, desserts and the best poutine in town.

Tobermory is known as “the Tub” because the town has twin harbours that are locally known as “Big Tub” and “Little Tub”. This lovely inn is a short walk from Little Tub Harbour. It’s also close to Big Tub Lighthouse and Little Cove Provincial Park.

The inn has 23 air-conditioned rooms that open to furnished balconies or patios. I love the amenities at this property, including an outdoor hot tub, a picnic area, barbecue grills, and a common area with a microwave.

The amenities and the location combined make this one of the best hotels in Tobermory for families. The inn is a 10-minute drive from Singing Sands Beach, a sandy cove with shallow, warm water perfect for young children.

I love the location of this resort, set right at Big Tub Harbour. From here you can watch boats coming and going and see the sun glistening off the water. The resort also has canoes, kayaks and paddle boats that guests can use to get a closer look at the shipwrecks.

The prime location, excellent amenities and comfy guestrooms make Big Tub Resort & Marina one of the best hotels in Tobermory. All rooms are air-conditioned and have LCD TVs, coffee makers and mini-fridges. The resort also has a three-bedroom cottage with an equipped kitchen that’s perfect for families or larger groups.

If scuba diving isn’t your thing, consider taking a glass-bottom boat cruise from Big Tub Harbour to see the Flowerpots on Flowerpot Island. Along the way, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of some of the shipwrecks.

Tobermory Village Cabins is one of the best hotels in Tobermory for families. The cabins are right in the Tobermory Village campground and feature many amenities that kids will love, including a children’s playground, a splash pad, a clubhouse, volleyball and basketball courts, and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. There are also paddle boats and canoes that guests can use on the two on-site ponds.

There are three types of cabins to choose from – glamping pods, standard cabins and premium cabins. Each glamping pod has a queen size bed, a picnic table and a fire pit, while standard cabins also have a double bed and bunk beds.

Premium cabins can sleep up to six people and have ensuite bathrooms, a microwave and a mini-fridge, making them ideal for larger families. They’re also equipped with a charcoal grill, a fire pit and a picnic area.

My favourite thing about this B&B is how relaxing and tranquil it is. The property is surrounded by trees in the Lion’s Head area of the Bruce Peninsula, about a 40-minute drive southeast of Tobermory. Even though it’s a drive from town, it’s one of the best hotels in Tobermory and the surrounding area for getting back to nature.

There are three rooms on the lower level of this adults-only B&B, each with a private ensuite bathroom, antique furnishings and luxurious bathrobes. Guests have access to a balcony, a patio, gardens and an outdoor dining area, as well as a pool table.

The breakfast is fantastic – another thing I like about it. It’s made-to-order each morning with hot dishes like eggs and pancakes. The B&B can also make a packed lunch to take on excursions, with the hosts here going above and beyond to make guests comfortable.

With six accessible rooms and a swimming pool with an automated chair lift, this is one of the best hotels in Tobermory area for those with accessibility challenges. Opened in 2020, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Port Elgin is designed to also appeal to both families and couples.

One of the things I like best about this hotel is the included breakfast with hot and cold items like pancakes, waffles, eggs, toast, fruit, muffins, cereals, juices and coffee.

The hotel’s 60 rooms all come with microwaves, fridges and coffee makers. I also appreciate the fact the property has guest laundry facilities, a fitness centre, a business centre and a vending area. It’s an 80-minute drive southeast of Tobermory on the shores of Lake Huron, but there are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

I love a good boutique hotel, and this property is a very special one. It has nine gorgeous suites with self-check-in and checkout, so every suite feels private. Each room at this hotel is unique, but they all have comfy beds, flat-screen TVs and coffee makers. Book one of the rooms with a kitchenette, hot tub and fireplace for a seriously restful escape.

The property is in downtown Hanover, within walking distance to shops and restaurants, while the casino and racetrack are a short two-minute drive away. It’s set about 140 km (87 miles) from Tobermory, but it’s a good spot to begin a multi-day journey and exploration of the Bruce Peninsula.

Top tip: This boutique hotel is just around the corner from Schultz Bakery, one of the best hometown bakeries in Ontario.
