Location is great and Victoria is beautiful. Clean and have done a good job restoring old buildings. The staff at the hotel was good. The Empress itself is spectaular, the reno not so much.
We felt the reno was poor. In trying to update it they missed the mark. Should have kept it classy like the other CP hotels and more in keeping with the grand style of the building. They tried to make it too contemporary and did a poor job of the lobby. The round silver columns are awful, as is the sparkly chandelier. Also for $629 per night I we expected the room a little nicer. The couch looked old and shabby, not classy. My pillows went flat and did not retain their shape at all. Plus, Victoria is really lacking in fine dining. It is moderate dining at best. The only place we found that was close to fine dining was the Courtenay Room.
Top location. Expensive as each Top Hotel. Very british with an old jammed bathroom door. Perfect staff, extremely friendly.
No free WiFi. Really not. It’s standard in each motel. Even, if you know, it is expensive, you’re surprised when checking out. Afternoon tea $82/person, valet parking and breakfast for two $ 750. But it was a nice experience.
Dress code gone for high tea
I am just not into giant hotels.
The location is perfect and gorgeous.
