9.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was awesome, nice variety of quality, hot, breakfast foods.
Cons: the hot tub was not working which was a bummer due to the cooler weather. (made swimming in the pool more of a COLD experience than it needed to be)
2.2 Mediocre
Pros: They had cookies
Cons: Our room could have been ready on time, the staff could have been more polite and professional, and the hot tub could have been in service... The one reason I chose this hotel over others in the area...
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We did not take advantage of the breakfast. However, it was located near a couple good local places. It was also a short drive from the center and easily accesible to the freeway.
Cons: Unfortunately the hot tub was out of order.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything
Cons: Great place to stay.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The breakfast
Cons: The bed was far below expectations for this hotel chain. There were very large divots in the bed where two people would lie. It made my husband and I feel like we were sleeping in a hammock. This does not happen overnight. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk staff, a brief apology was given. Picture (attached) does not do the severity justice.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Pio checked us in and out. He was amazing.

Overview Reviews
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this hotel is located in the city centre of Arcata, California. A restaurant and bar are featured on site. Each guest room here comes with a cable TV and a coffee machine. The private bathrooms are equipped with a cast-iron claw foot bath and a brass showerhead. A 24-hour front desk, meeting or banquet facilities, and vending machines can all be found at this hotel. Free WiFi access is provided at Hotel Arcata. A number of dining and shopping options can be reached within 5 minutes’ walk. Humboldt State University is 12 minutes’ walk from the hotel.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Charming building, best location, great staff
Cons: So loud! The hotel is next to two bars, and people are drinking and playing loud music in the street from 11- to 4am, on a Wednesday night. The building is charming from 1905 or similar, but there is clearly no insulation; single pane window is nearly the same open or closed. This time, neighbors in adjacent room also partying at 3am. The noise is very sucky for the hotel guest. Every time I've stayed there.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is perfect for us. Downtown, walkable to quality restaurants, shops.
Cons: The Arcata is on a block that includes what seem like remnants of a more derelict past. Low-life bars, a liquor store, all seem out of step with the attractive look of many of the businesses on the square. The real downside is the rowdiness of the drunks who empty the bars at closing time.
7.0 Good
Pros: Lots of hot water and good water pressure.
Cons: Breakfast was depressing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I like the fact that they are very dog friendly and that their breakfast menu has expanded since the last time I was here. The staff was very helpful and welcoming, the dinner recommendation was spot on.
Cons: It was a bit more money than what I would have liked to spend for one night. However I had been camping and it was time for a clean and comfortable place to stay.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Claw-foot tub was a ice touch in the bathroom, atmosphere and ambiance matching the historic character.
Cons: Door did not seal well when locked (big gap around frame). Hotel is right next to 4 bars that are active and fairly noisy on weekend nights, but with earplugs all was well. Queen bed felt more like a full/double.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s an old, historic building, but updated enough with a few modern touches to make it a very comfortable stay. It was a perfect size for one person.
Cons: The bathtub/shower was old fashioned and a little tough to access. Also no hair dryer in the room (I didn’t know I could have called the front desk for one)
6.8 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Bathroom needs updating. Very noisy at night. In fact, this may be the only hotel that handed out ear plugs when I checked in.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the character and oldness of the hotel and that it was located right in the middle of town where the restaurants are. Staff that was friendly and helpful. Smiles help. Place was clean. I hope it stays well-cared for and welcoming for a long time.
Cons: A staff person who did not smile. A bar located close to the hotel and no designated parking lot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is great. Right in the middle of town
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I enjoy staying in historic hotel properties and ones not affiliated with franchises. The staff was excellent and at no time did I not feel welcome and assisted with my needs. I appreciate being able to have my dog stay with me.
Cons: The only thing I would like to see changed would be the shower curtains for the claw foot bathtubs. If the curtain rods could be curved outwards along the sides and the hems lined with magnets this would allow one to shower more easily without the curtain closing in on them as they try to wash up.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice location overlooking the central square in Arcata. Close to any cafés, bars, restaurants. Good base for exploring Redwood area.
Cons: To much noise from the street in weekends (due to bar next door). The central square in full of homeless (not bothering me much).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The friendly lady at the front desk made it easy to check in and it is so conveniently located
Cons: I didnt like that I could only stay one night
Overview Reviews

7.0 Good
Pros: Clean and roomy. I like the desk with few electric outlets. Water was hot. Breakfast was not too bad.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Easy access from freeway.
Cons: The sheets were old pilled and scratchy. Coffee very weak. Breakfast sub par. Bananas over ripe pastry stale
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great bed
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Coffee was hot and juice was cold.
Cons: The room was clean but the bed sheets had stains. The AC had a bad moldy odor like the filter needed to be changed. The parking was very poor...went then came back to find no parking spaces available except for electric cars to charge...found several cars parked illegally--cars parked in handicapped spaces with no visible placard or license plates...food was just okay...had to go out to McDonalds for food as I am diabetic...need actual food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed the breakfast. Convience to market and restaurants.

Overview Reviews
Motel 6 Arcata-Humboldt University is within walking distance to area restaurants. Visit our California beaches within 9 miles. Sequoia Park Zoo is only 12 miles. Enjoy our outdoor pool and free Wi-Fi in all of our guest rooms.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The hotel was close to the freeway to get to other areas we wanted to visit easily but not to close that we could hear the freeway terrible.
Cons: The bathroom looked like it had not been mopped in a long time. We wore our sandels while taking a shower.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Check in and out was easy. Nice staff.
Cons: Not clean. Over priced for what it was.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The price is good, close to fast food, grocery store, pizza, Dollar Tree etc. Close to nearby beaches. Hotel was older but in good condition and clean.
Cons: Bad location with a lot of scary people in the area digging in garbage all night long which was right outside of our room. I woke up to horrible pungent smoke coming from them smoking outside our door. Police were there twice in our 2 day stay. Felt a little unsafe for my family. Pool was green. Other than that it would have been great value for the money. Rooms are small, no tub, fridge or microwave.
4.5 Okay
Cons: I’m sorry to say, almost everything. We were not allowed to sit outside or room, but the pool was locked 2 of the days we were there. The spreads had many stains when we arrived. The new manager was very difficult to speak to.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location was not a long drive from beaches. Was close to eating facilities and a shopping area.
Cons: Room smelled like mildew and stale cigarette smoke. Dog area full of dog poop and not easy to walk dog through. Area under beds dusty and dirty. Second evening there Had to ask for more towels because no one had come by room to remove old ones and supply fresh and clean ones.
7.0 Good
Pros: Convenient
Cons: Alot of trash outside. Other guest are noisy and hanging out in parking lot etc
3.1 Mediocre
Pros: The night staff was very nice!!
Cons: The room was gross. The comforters were both stained. The towels were also stained. There were little hairs all over the toilet seat, in the sink, on the towels, and in the bed. A lot of sketchy people hang out/stay there. People were talking loudly and slamming doors all night long. There’s also a high risk that your car could get broken into so don’t leave anything in your car.
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to Restaurants.. Clean Rooms
Cons: The Parking is Horrible.. Big Companies stay with and take up the parking lot with company Vehicles.. Most are rude and loud.. Drink and socialize loudly outside their rooms until the late hours.. NO COFFEE POT...
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: Small rooms no refrigerator or coffee im room. Loud could hear next room threw the walls like in the same room. Cockroach crawling the wall the morning we left
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: That I survived the crazy nighttime activity.
Cons: This was the worst stay... rooms were bare bones not even a hairdryer, towels were stained and old and thin, bed was lumpy and old and smelled of urine. Hole room smelled of weed, which made our cloths smell too. Homeless wandering property.
9.5 Excellent
Cons: More parking...bigger parking spaces. Many of the "compact" spaces were unused as they were too narrow to actually use.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Smelly, dirty bedding. Stains and black curly hair on sheets

Pros: For the money, it was very adequate for our needs. My waffle was delicious
Cons: If I was staying in the room more, it would have felt a bit dreary
5.5 Okay
Pros: Staff were really nice and helpful. Room was clean and as described.
Cons: Overall condition of the building was pretty poor. This place clearly needs some work. And the area is a dump. Tons of homeless or unfortunate people wandering around. There were children pulling hubcaps off of an old car in the back parking lot. We thought they might be living there. It was generally an unpleasant place to be.
6.8 Good
Pros: The other room is clean and comfy that they moved me to!
Cons: Found cockroaches in my first room...
8.0 Excellent
Pros: reasonable price, good location
Cons: smelled funny when we first walked into the room
4.5 Okay
Pros: The member of staff on duty when we checked in was great, very honest and truthful.
Cons: It was not good value for money, there were cockroaches in the bathroom in the morning and when we told the staff on duty all he said was “yeah sorry”.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Location is central to Humbolt County.
Cons: My Vehicle was broken into in the parking lot. The people in the room above me seemed to be jumping on a "trampoline" until midnight. Very noisy motel with loud voices and loud music all evening. TV reception was in and out for part of the evening.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast choices were good. The location was excellent with access to Arcata and McKinnleyville and nearby beaches. The room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: We needed to have our key cards recoded several times in our two day stay.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: OK.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great property and location
Cons: The bathroom sink backed up badly, had to request a plunger and plunge it to operate ... the breaker in the bathroom plug kicked off which made the lights not work so the night clerk, Leon, was exceptional with assisting and instructing ... He made the whole experience worth the challenges ...
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was better than expected.
Cons: Absolutely subpar. Even for budget motel. Beds should have been replaced years ago.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are clean and well kept.
Cons: The nonsmoking rooms still smell like cigarettes and weed. And the halls smell like smoke. Would make more sense if the smoking rooms were not inbetween the non smoking rooms.
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfortable place, warm breakfast and hot coffees. Short drive to the parks and beaches.

Pros: The location to the freeway was good. Close to a Mexican restaurant. An OK breakfast.
Cons: The place needs help!! Everything needs paint. The cleanliness of the rooms need a lot of attention. The pool entrance is a maze to get through. I feel this place is well past it's prime!!
1.0 Poor
Pros: It was available for the night I needed it. To add to what I didn't like below - I can't believe Ramada/Wyndham would put their brand on this crappy property
Cons: The hotel advertises free airport shuttle. I called the front desk before I booked. They told me they would arrange for the shuttle to take me to the airport for my 6:25 AM flight. When I checked in the front desk knew nothing about an airport shuttle.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Too small of a room for breakfast. Guests were advised to sit outside when the room filled up. 60 degrees outside
7.5 Good
Pros: My husband almost cancelled this hotel stay after reading all the horrible reviews! We decided to check it out because we were so tired and needed to rest. No this isn’t the fanciest hotel ever but it’s in a good location, staff was very friendly, rooms were very clean and adequate for needs. There’s a microwave fridge and flat screen tv. Looked like so many vehicles were from out of state so it was quiet and right off the freeway. Breakfast was simple and nice. Coffee in the lobby was good also. If stay here again. Linens were fresh and clean, mattress was comfy. Air and heat worked very well. The city is very ran down and this is the better hotel and location. Thank you
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast met my expectations. It would have been nice to have a wider variety of yogurt and fruit. Coffee was not very good.
Cons: The bathroom light is very bright. It could use a dimmer switch for night use.

Noise level high, they rent the rooms to the homeless. Hallways smell bad and have strong smell of marijuana in halls, in no smoking hotel. In the room we woke up at 12 30am to someone trying to get in our room through our hall door and adjoining room door. In at 7pm out 5 30am Couldn't get out of there Fast enough! Pros: Location- close to HSU.
Cons: The hallway carpets were filthy, the walls were really thin, the breakfast was sad.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything was broken- toilet, ac, outlet
5.5 Okay
Pros: THE CARPETS WERE FILTHY, BUT THE ROOMS WERE REASONABLY CLEAN. THERE WAS NO PREPARED FOOD FOR BREAKFAST - PACKAGED ITEMS ONLY.
Cons: I JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT IF THE FOLKS RUNNING THE HOTEL SHOWED JUST A BIT MORE CARE THEY WOULD HAVE MORE CUSTOMERS. I WASN'T EXPECTING PERFECTION, BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS RIGHT, BUT REALLY, THE HALL CARPETS WERE ABSOLUTELY FILTHY.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The lobby and the rooms have obviously been remodeled. They’re clean and really, pretty nice (especially for the price). The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The hallway is rough.. it definitely needs new carpet.
4.5 Okay
Cons: Horrible breakfast. Within 1 hour of opening they were out of a lot of stuff. No coffee, sweetener, creamer, silverware. Very little food to choose from
