Nice clean facility relatively convenient to the center of Banff.
Unfortunately, there is a long list of negatives: 1) the staff consisted of an ever-changing group of very young people with limited experience and variable attitudes - some friendly and some completely standoffish. No senior manager could be seen or reached, even when needed (see below); 2) the breakfast is touted as extraordinary in posters placed all over the hotel and the elevators - in fact it is similar to what you get in a cheap highway motel. The breakfast room was impossibly crowded with long lines to get something as banal as a boiled egg; 3) the air conditioner leaked profusely so that one side of the room carpet was constantly wet. When asked to repair it, they left the unit cover in the middle of the room with the unit openly exposing molds and accumulated dirt; 4) the last night of our stay a dog was left alone in the room next to ours. It barked loudly and continuously for a good part of the night, causing a number of guests to complain with the lone overwhelmed night staff. She tried hard, but was unable to contact the manager who had allegedly "forgotten his cell phone in the car." That is the story we were given! Nothing was done about the dog, which stopped barking around 1 am . The next morning I complained to the very young man who seemed to be in charge and he offered - very generously - to remove two nights from our stay. That brought the price to ~$250 per night, a much more reasonable price that the absurd $450 we were supposed top pay. Even at the reduced price, the Canalta Lodge was not a good value.
breakfast was ok- not great
Super comfortable and really liked the quiet outdoor hot tubs.
The spa was great
The staff upon arrive could have been more professional. One gentleman was on the phone at the desk and took a while to even be acknowledged. A girl who started working there that day struggled to help us and the guy seemed annoyed having to help her. Wasn’t a nice way to start the stay there, especially when you pay over $450 for a room for one night. Appreciate breakfast being included but feel it could have been a little better.
The decor is very modern and in good condition. The hotubs and sauna are well maintained and welcoming with plenty of room to sit outside and inside.
The king bed room we were in didn’t have much lighting for the main room since my wife was getting her hair done professionally and doing makeup etc.
