Christchurch is one of the quieter towns in Barbados, and here you can stay at the Dover Beach Hotel, an elegant and sedate hotel built in the 1970s and located in the St. Lawrence area. Another quieter resort is Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, also in Christchurch. It’s close to Turtle Beach and also has its own private beach if you prefer. The Crane Resort in Bridgetown, an equally quiet area, is in the Diamond Valley neighbourhood and boasts an infinity pool and fitness centre.
The Caribbean islands are almost synonymous with reggae music and beach parties, and Barbados is no exception. The island takes on a completely new life at night, with the area of St. Lawrence Gap the main place to party. Here you can stay at the Southern Palms Beach Club or Bougainvillea Barbados. St. Michael also has more than a few party venues like Harbour Lights, offering a variety of both indoor and open-air live entertainment. Here, you can book at Accra Beach Hotel & Spa.
Barbados is very much a festival island and there are several that are worth looking out for when you’re planning a holiday here. Most festivals are held from the beginning of July into early August, with a few exceptions. The most famous is Crop Over, which originally celebrated the island’s sugar production industry and has since become an all-round celebration of island life in Barbados. The Reggae Festival is legendary across the Caribbean, drawing artists from the entire West Indies region in April. Live shows are held in various locations across the island. For techno music lovers there’s the Vujaday Music Festival, also in April.
