Cons: Always a good time
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room and facilities are superb. Super clean super friendly staff and quick response
Cons: Swimming pool doesn't have a deep side >4ft.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful rooms. Lovely staff.
Cons: There is very little near hotel so would have been nice to have some traditional entertainment some evenings.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The pool was beautiful, turn down service was lovely and staff were helpful proving a small breakfast for a very early start. Great location to relax after busy days. Breakfast choice is very good!
Cons: Resort is 1km from the main road and quite fsr from dambulla. A driver is required. Dinner buffet is nice but expensive compared to a la carte and other nice Sri Lankan restaurants. Happy hour is only 20% discount which isnt great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel style and price.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is fantastic. The setting is quite breathtaking - a must visit. Brilliant service, the pool bar team in particular were just great. Spotlessly clean with an amazing zen feel.
7.5 Good
Pros: We stayed for 5 days with a 2 year old. Overall a very nice hotel, but lacks attention to cleaning of not-so-obvious bits, like under the sink or behind the make-up mirror. Very good wine list with very fair prices, we checked on Vivino:)
Cons: Lacks consistency in billing for child meals. Sometimes we weren’t charged, but if we were charged they would put as the most expensive pasta on the menu, even though we ordered simple virgin olive oil and garlic one. Felt cheated and overcharged. Also the hotel gets ridiculously crowded during poja and weekends, food is bad and servise very slow. We had the most terrible vegetarian Sri Lankan curry and chicken kadai on poja day. We had chicken kadai every day and every day it was different, usually good different except for poja day of course.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The willingness of the hotel team to ensure our stay was perfect. Impressed with environmental management!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food, calm and isolated atmosphere, clean and spacy rooms, very friendly staff... Jetwing Lake was the first hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka and will remain unforgettable for a long time.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room was very comfortable and the view was amazing. You can see the lake and the mountains. The pool is huge and has the same amazing view. The breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options. Good gym.
Cons: Although the food is very good, having dinner at the hotel is very expensive.
Heritance Kandalama - Dambulla - Building
2
9.1 Excellent (4,648 reviews)
C$ 273+
Overview Reviews
Welcome to a very special Sri Lanka hotel. A hotel that doesnt sit on the landscape but is part of it. Where monkeys climb your balcony pillars as if they were trees, swifts nest in the corners of corridors as if they were cliffs, granite crags erupt into the sinuous white walkways. Where you can float in the infinity pool while gazing across at the Sigiriya rock fortress, the eighth wonder of the world. Welcome to Heritance Kandalama, one of the premier 5 Star hotels in Sri lanka
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Heritance Kandalama is a special find. Hidden in a forest of dense green, it’s hard to believe that this huge minimalist hotel is there. The entrance to the hotel is quite magnificent and gets you excited before you’re even in there. The pool is beautiful, with a view of Lions Rock in the distance and at the right time, buffalo drinking from the lake. The room was very clean and tidy, with a more traditional feel than the minimal design of the hotel. We had a hot tub overlooking the jungle which was great. We had a few visitors swinging from our balcony, which was amazing and didn’t bother us at all - just all part of the experience.
Cons: The food was good but we would have liked more of an intimate dining experience. Due to the size of the hotel, there is a buffet and the dining rooms are huge.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A large variety of choice. Very good.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and the service. The bed was comfortable
Cons: The food quality could be improved. Introduce more veggie options. Rooms can be slightly bigger with more space. The menu seems to be repetitive
7.1 Good
Pros: Beautiful architecture built into the natural spot overlooking the water
Cons: Our expectations were much higher based on the photos but the hotel is quite worn down. A lot of renovation and maintenance must be done, power issues in the room as well as bugs i side the rooms
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting of the hotel is magnificent as is the hotel itself. The rooms are great. The staff were excellent. The breakfast first rate. I wished we could have stayed longer.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location and the design of the hotel is great. We come to this hotel due to the design of Geoffrey Bawa, and have a fabulous experience!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: lake view lobby and room, and you can see monkey outside your window in the morning. Very close to nature.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The amazing view, excellent breakfast, 3 pools with a good snack bar.
Cons: Almost nothing. Poor wifi but can't really complain.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing, it is an amazing experience
4.6 Okay
Cons: Laks the five star treatment, absolutely nothing five star in that property, super old very worn out although I booked the highest category room which is delux with jacuzzi. Not clean at all, Pictures attached.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This accommodation was the best we have experienced during our one month travel in Sri Lanka. The owner is super nice, her husband is also very nice and kind and have cute daughter. Accommodation seems to be new, was very clean and any problem would be solved very quickly. We stayed there 4 nights and we wished we would stay longer. Breakfast was every morning different and they offer also dinner, almost anything you want and always delicious. The owner arranged for us also safari trip with a good price. We would definitely stay again since the accommodation was very nice and clean (as in pictures) and the host was the most helpful and friendliest we have experienced during our trip. You would feel like at home. Location is also very convenient, 10 minutes by walk to the Golden temple. Hope to see you soon!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Food was great, hosts were extremely hospitable and they even invited us to join in the celebration of the husband's birthday.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here for two nights in order to do Sigiriya and Pidurangala and it was everything we needed. The room was basic and everything that we needed and the host/owner was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice to start the day with food in our bellies and we found very good family home-cooked Sri Lankan restaurants close by for dinner (Athula and Golden Palace Restaurant). The owner also helped organize our tuk-tuk (her father who was very nice and picked us up at 4:45am) for Sigiriya and Pidurangala and our private A/C van pickup when we were leaving to head back to Kandy. Thanks for a nice stay!
Cons: Nothing, it was great for two nights in order to see the local sights!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed is very comfortabled.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The stuff was really helpful. They helped us arrange Tuk tuk to the Sigiriya just for 2000 and they even helped us to catch a bus just outside the hotel. The breakfast was nice and everything was clean.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and welcoming couple who are very very helpful. In a good location with good aircon for a quick stop in dambulla.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Very homely stay. Hosts were very welcoming
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for Dambulla Caves - they are an easy walking distance. And the host family are so welcoming, full of smiles and very kind. Chathuri was so helpful cooking me dinner when I arrived tired and told me all the info I needed. They really are a sweet family. The room is functional and has what you need for the stay.
Cons: Because of its great location the property is off the main road, so if you’re a light sleeper bring earplugs as you do get traffic noise. Due to the crazy monsoon rain the ceiling leaked a little in one place, but it was only a few drops so was all fine.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely wonderful hosts! Rukshan and his wife helped me plan my trip to the nearby attractions, got me discounted prices as I was traveling off season and had no company, and even accepted lesser prices than they had advertised! Best homestay I have stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best place you can book in Dambulla! Amazing atmosphere and lovely owners. Delicious food, prepered by the owner herself. They helped us to arrange safari and other activities, even stopped the buses for us in front of their house. PS We hope that you already tried our polish gift ;)

Pros: Nice Place Hotel is a great place to discover a lot of must sees around (Sigiriya, Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks, Polonnaruwa, etc.). Especially that the hotel helps you organize the tours. It is a comfortable place to spend a couple of days in between the tours. The grounds are lovely with lots of wildlife to watch from the pool or the bedroom door. Birds, squirrels, monkeys, land monitors, turtles, cows and more! If you like wildlife come here! Food was outstanding with a huge amount of choice which changed daily. one of the cooks gave us a tour of the kitchen and I can assure you that all the food is made from scratch. We also got a tour of their farm which was great to see. It is a good location to visit Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnuwara. And even anuradhapura if you have a driver. Pros: Amazing staff, friendly, accommodating every need, food was excellent, ambience throughout the stay including small and intimate new years eve fireworks display! The attention to detail, it was my birthday before arrival at the hotel the next night at dinner the manager arranged for the staff to bring out a cake and sang happy birthday, was a surprise but shows how attentive to individual guests, this made my trip to Arika Villa even more special!! The Arika is small but has soooo much character with the beautiful stream running round the hotel grounds, so peaceful and tranquil after a long day out and about visiting the sites it is a welcome place to return to with the amazing cook Ahmed making some excellent dishes from lamb cutlets with turkey (new years dinner) to traditional Sri Lanka curry dishes, that were really tasty. The hotel will arrange on request trips to Pidurangala & Sigiriya Rock (I had the pleasure of the manager Nishandra) accompany me at 4:30AM to see the most amazing sunrise, spectacular and well worth the early wake up!! Also very close by Dambulla Cave Temple. Cannot say enough great things about this remarkable hotel/villa and would recommend to all, take a trip to Dambulla and enjoy the Arika Villa staff and surroundings!!! Fabulous Thanks to all the staff especially Nishandra (who I am still in contact with since arriving back to UK) for making my birthday, the end of 2018 and the start of 2019 the most unforgettable time!! You guys rock!!!!!
Cons: NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT - SERIOUSLY!!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The decoration was really nice. I absolutely loved the shower on the ground floor room. Beautiful
Cons: There was a buzzing sound coming from the electricity box the whole night which was a bit annoying. The staff were super friendly on arrival but disappeared completely when we checked out. There was no coffee with milk, only black coffee
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I really loved the peaceful location and beautiful pool area. The room was spacious and clean. The staff were really friendly and caring. Everyone seemed to really care that we were having a good time. As we were there over Sri Lankan New Year, the hotel provided a special meal and celebration afternoon - it was really special!
Cons: Overall everything was great! We would have loved to have seen more Sri Lankan food on the menu though.

Pros: Friendly and attentive staff Good food Comfy bed At the moment there are some adorable puppies living near the villa! Drinking water cooler downstairs that you can refill bottles from There’s a tandem bicycle that you can borrow and take for a spin in the village if you’re feeling adventurous
4.2 Okay
Pros: the size of the room
Cons: bad service. the rate of the hotel is not 5 star. it is barely 3 star. the hotel has only 5 staff !!
6.7 Good
Pros: - the room we had (108) had a nice little balcony in the back facing a small stream. We saw lots of monkeys throughout the day. There are high ceilings and the room is very spacious and clean. - the staff were all excellent, super friendly and attentive. They are the stars of this place. - nice small pool to relax and chill
Cons: - This place was simply overpriced in every sense be it the breakfast, rooms or dinner. To charge what they do and not include breakfast (at least in our case) was ridiculous. We had to pay extra every day for breakfast for all 3 nights we stayed. When adding all the tax on the food, it came quite high and basically cost more than staying an additional night. - Breakfast and dinner are overpriced and not value for money. The food is just ok nothing else. Nothing to rave about. - All the prices on the food menu did not mention that these were excluding tax. Once checkout came everything cost an additional 25% more. - the water from the shower area kept flowing into the rest of the bathroom due to its bad construction. The shower head was also a bit old and was hard to get the rainshower to head to work as the handle was loose and would not work. - the room. although nice and spacious, was very dark - wifi was average at best - although the balcony in the back was a nice touch, we could not use it at night as it was swarmed with mosquitos. - the hotel, room and restaurant lacked any character, atmosphere or charisma. A rather uninspiring place to stay. - The restaurant area was just odd. It's basically a small square room with sliding glass doors that feels more like a showroom rather than a restaurant. Not somewhere I would rush to stay again especially since there are much nicer places to stay in the area.

Pros: Peace and quiet connected with nature
Cons: Meals are pricey
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything about this hotel, the environment, the tents everything was just great. if you like nature, definitely you will like this hotel. I stayed in Rangiri Dambulla resort only for one night, but I am sure that i will visit Sri Lanka again and I will stay in this hotel at least for a couple of days.
7.1 Good
Cons: There were no person on arrival at the reception. Hotel security has to run around to find the person. Once he came, implied that he is busy for about 5 mts and told us that room is ready, but have to wait for 20 mts as it should prepare. Once we came again after 20 mts, I was asked to make the payment before I get the room key and told that the balance will be taken to the room, but never appeared until we check out on the following morning. No responsible person was there in the reception or in the hotel to collect the balance or to check the rooms before check out. Finally I told the security guy who was roaming around the kitchen that we are checking out. This was the service the hotel staff provided for the local guests.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Environment
Cons: Not organized. You have to ask to get things normally available in a hotel. Chef need improvement You do not get value for what you pay for food
7.1 Good
Pros: Great place with very friendly staff. Food is served as a buffet and is always varied. Rooms are to a reasonable good standard.

Cons: Food ok but average, catering for the western tourist
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very helpful and friendly The chalets were rather unique

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very peaceful
Cons: I liked it all! Yes
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had a relaxing and comfortable stay at Rangiri Dambulla Resort. We absolutely loved the personalised experience in particular from Lahiru who went above and beyond to help us and make us feel welcome. The Swiss tent was clean and spacious and very good air conditioning. The bed was extra large which was great as we had our child sharing with us. The pool and surroundings (herb garden) were lovely too. Highly recommend, especially for families.
Cons: The restaurant mainly offered buffet food for breakfast and dinner. In saying that the chef was accommodating on our last night a prepared us a special Sri Lankan rice and curry.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The tent/chalets were beautiful. The gardens were stunning. The best part however wS the resteraunt staff, so polite and the food was incredible. We didn’t want the Buffett and the head chef personally came out to check was Sri Lankan curries were our fave and what we would want for dinner and breakfast :)
Cons: Not able to buy alcohol

Pros: Location is good for visiting the temple, close to a bus stop to/from Trincomalee & Kandy; this accommodation is more like a homestay-basic but with everything you need; you get a towel; water and tea is complimentary; pets
Cons: It was end of the month, so the wifi was really slow; different kind of insects everywhere (but very common for Sri Lanka)

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The manager was always organized and took care of us. He was so efficient and knowledgeable of surrounding areas in Sri Lanka. The food was delicious and the restaurant staff were friendly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and comfortable. I really enjoyed the pool area and the poolside bar (the drinks were amazing). The staff (especially our tour guide AK) were amazing. He honestly made our stay in Sri Lanka so special!! The location is awesome (only a walk from the save temple) and the staff were very helpful. They do all their own tours which were soooo helpful and made our life so easy!!
Cons: Little bit on the expensive side regarding tours. They use USD in their pricing so it’s a bit confusing when your not American. I feel as though they overcharge for some tours but we are lucky we had AK as our tour guide because he made it worth it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This place was located close to the cave temple, which was a plus point. The rooms and bathroom was clean and very spacious. Ideal for families!. The staff at the reception was pleasant and helpful. They recommended us on the best time to do the hikes for Sigiriya and Pidurangala. We decided to do a safari tour to Kaudalla National Park which was pleasant. On one of the nights there was a buffet at the restaurant and the food was delicious, highly recommended. Breakfast was good value!
Cons: The restaurant ala carte menu options could have been better. There was a small incident with the guard and being locked in on the morning of our hike. We were meant to leave at 5 am, but was locked in as the guard was not at the gatepost and I needed to go searching for someone at that hour to open the gate, and the lady couldn't find the keys as well. It is a safety hazard I believe, to be locked inside and not knowing how to unlock the gate. Thankfully everything was sorted even though it took 15-20 minutes.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is real value for money. It's location is great, the Dambulla caves are within walking distance and town is only a five minute journey away. The outside area is amazing, in particular the pool. We swam over to the bar area and had cocktails made for us by Pubudu, who is a fantastic cocktail maker and is keen to practise his English (which we equally enjoyed). We are at the hotel, which was a buffet of different foods, and thoroughly enjoyed it all :) The staff were very helpful and friendly. The security guard helped us to get a bus the following morning from opposite the hotel.
Cons: The balcony area isn't huge however, we didn't have any need for using it so it didn't matter.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very welcoming and made us feel at home especially as we had only just arrived in Sri Lanka. Their driver Saman was also great, sharing local knowledge and recommendations throughout our stay. Good hotel to start or end your trip.
6.0 Good
Pros: Damian the host was very helpful and made our stay as comfortable as possible. We stayed in a newer room. The chef / head of restaurant was also extremely friendly. The staff here really made us feel welcome and were interested in their guests. Very leafy & green and the pool is very inviting. Pool bar will help create a social atmosphere.
Cons: I would suggest putting a mosquito net above the bed as there were many bugs flying around the room and also many migies or flies on our bed. Also perhaps a TV in the room as there is not much to do in Dambulla in the evenings so after a day trip it would be nice to have a tv. I think the older rooms had one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Booked this place last minute but it did not disappoint! The room is huge and comfortable! The staff help us out with our tuk tuk as we were driving one across Sri Lanka. Everyone is so friendly
Cons: The only bad thing is the mosquitoes but it's okay inside the room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff
Cons: Cleanliness of garden.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good place to spend a few nights. Excellent location near Dambulla to visit de caves and also to go to Sigiriya and the ancient cities. We rented a tour and we are very satisfies. The driver was very friendly and attentive and at all times explains us about the places we visit. Breakfast is huge! a lot of Tea, coffee and fruits with sweet and savory at breakfast. The best is the great pool with the bar on the water. Really good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the room is perfect, it's clean and the view is great!
7.9 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beatiful garden and surrounding nature, friendly helpful staff, good restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality of the staff.
7.9 Good
Pros: The extensive gardens & the dining area/furniture - a 100 year old Mara tree growing out of the centre of the restaurant! Our room was very spacious in the three storey tower block & was extremely clean - & there was a bath! The air conditioning unit was efficient & quiet. Lanka & Dayawansa looked after us very well & were always anxious to please.
Cons: The western style meals we had in the evenings were poor. Fixed price of 5 U.S. dollars every course no matter what you chose!
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Great service could do enough for us
Cons: Evening meal expensive
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Loves the gardens and peaceful ambience , large rooms and an attentive staff. The checking in can be faster and easier but the owner Frank and the staff made our day with some live music at dinner on our last day and we had a memorable time.
Cons: Nothing not to like but I think it’s a bit expensive and the food also while cooked fresh could be chargeable on a higher side Room service can improve. Wifi can be faster.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very competitive pricing - lower than most in the Dambullah/Sigiriya area at this 4* level - and the rooms are exceptionally clean and in good condition with loads of space. Prakash is also very attentive in terms of service in the restaurant too.
Cons: The location is quite a distance to the South of Dambullah and a long way from Sigiriya - 45 minutes by tuk-tuk. Although this is compensated for by the very competitive price, the food is too expensive for what it is (15$ for dinner) and options nearby are limited. The swimming pool area is also limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed here for 2 nights. The checkin was quick and the place is a candy store for nature lovers. The garden is beautiful with well maintained bushes and lawn. The stream running behind the property is the cherry on the cake. Sameer was an excellent host and the food was just delicious . The rooms were clean , huge and well maintained. Definitely recommend this place.

6.7 Good
Pros: Staff were friendly
Cons: The takeaway dinner was hopeless and it was a real waste of money and some of us could not eat the dinner at all as that was tasteless with too much salt.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful I selected Sri Lankan food, which was quite ok. Location excellent for watching international cricket at the Dambulla stadium. 5 minutes by auto rickshaw Also, very close to the cave temple.
Cons: There were two main problems, both to do with the room. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the room, also the electricity supply to the property was very erratic so the air conditioner barely had any effect and often stopped for long periods of time.. For these two reasons I found it impossible to get a good night's sleep on either night of my stay.
