I booked a reservation that was supposed to include breakfast however they had me booked under a different rate that didn't include breakfast. It felt very disorganized. The hotel is a very dated 1980's hotel and it shows its age, you see mold in the bathrooms under badly caulked areas, the mattresses are dented and lopsided, the ceilings are incredibly low, and the windows are small. The gym is also shared with community members and it is really really filthy and dank. It is the type of building where they should have torn down most of it and fully gutted the rest. I grew up in this area when this hotel was built and despite attempts at modernizing it falls short at every turn.
The staff was excellent. I am Vegan so I had brought a bit if food because I am aware many places do not offer much for a Vegan. For such a higher quality hotel I was disappointed there was not a refrigerator in my room, but I improvised filling a bag with ice, placing in in one of the small trash receptacles and placing my food on top with a covering to keep it cold. I placed the "do not disturb" sign on the door when I left for the festivities in Salem. When I came back, that evening, the maid had gone in and cleaned my room and threw away over $50 worth of food. I went down to the front desk and explained the situation. Everyone was very understanding, due to the fact, they all had someone they new who was Vegan and knew there is not many options available yet, here in the states, nor is there any stores near by to shop. The front desk staff, Colleen, was gracious enough to give me a credit to the restaurant and for breakfast to help cover the cost for the loss of food. Even when I ordered a meal from the restaurant there was just one option for a veggie burger because they were out of the hummus. So the following evening when I went to order the burger I was informed that the cook had made up something, especially for me, using a puff pastry and a roasted vegetable hummus filling they had made specifically for this, with grilled asparagus & carrots, & placed on a bed of rice. It was delicous. I also forgot my shaving razor and the front desk has a few everyday emergancy supplies tucked away so don't be afraid to ask if you dont see it in the tiny little shop area.
There were only a few things that were disappointing. One, was not having a fridge to keep the food, I brought, cold which would have prevented the later mishap. The shower head definitely needs to be replaced. It was very old and when I adjusted the head for a more uniform flow of water, many of the holes, in the head, would not work. The shower head could most certainly use a good soak in vinegar or, as I said earlier, just replaced. There was no vent either and you have to shut the door somewhat to have access to the tub/shower which causes the mirror to fog quickly, but once the door is opened all the way, it clears up fast.
The staff was friendly and the hotel was nice.
As Hilton honors guests we were not allowed into the “free” breakfast without a card which we did not receive at the desk during our check in.
The king size bed
The WiFi set up was difficult. We had to go to the front desk for help
